News Briefs: AMC Orders a Dark Cop Drama to Series


... AMC ordered the drama Low Winter Sun to series on Friday while I was flying around the country and recovering from holiday party fun that may or may not have included an ice luge in the shape of a honey badger. Based on the 2006 British miniseries of the same name, Low Winter Sun follows a cop (Mark Strong) who gets pulled into shady stuff after he murders a fellow officer. Lennie James (Jericho) and David Costabile (Breaking Bad) will co-star. Season 1 will consist of 10 one-hour episodes. [AMC via press release]


... Ben Stiller's production company Red Hour has sold a couple of comedies to ABC. You're Not Doing it Right is written by and stars Michael Ian Black (The State) as a man who barely recognizes his life after getting married and having kids. Between Two Kings follows a recently divorced father who moves in with his sick dad and must juggle the demands of his father and his son. [Deadline Hollywood]

... ABC might be developing a sitcom based on Justin Bieber's life. Sigh. [TV Guide]

... USA Network has put into development a drama based on a modern-day Zorro. And of course it will be called Z. If it becomes a series it'll be about an orphan in Los Angeles who grows up to become a crime-fighter in Los Angeles. [Variety]

... Bored over the holiday break? Well, ABC has decided to put all of the current seasons of its current shows online for free, rather than the standard most recent five episodes. Now you have no excuse to not be caught up on The Neighbors. [ABC via press release]

... Amazon Prime has secured the exclusive rights to online streaming for TNT's The Closer and Falling Skies, which is supposed to sound like incentive to get Amazon Prime, I guess. [Deadline Hollywood]

... LA's mini TV festival PaleyFest has added two shows to its lineup, and both of them come from Ryan Murphy. American Horror Story: Asylum and The New Normal will both be featured at the festival which begins in March. I get AHS, but does anyone really want to listen to people talk about The New Normal? ... Lost's Sam Anderson (he played Bernard) will stop by Justified for multiple episodes in Season 4. Anderson will play a funeral director who tussles with Boyd Crowder. [TV Line]

... TNT's upcoming series Legends continues to add to its cast, picking up Steve Harris (Awake). The drama centers on a CIA operative (Sean Bean) who is a master of disguise and transforms himself into other people for jobs. Harris will play his boss.
