News Briefs: CBS Uncancels Unforgettable

BUSINESS TIME

... CBS is giving Poppy Montgomery 13 more episodes, bringing the fetching redhead back for a summer run in 2013 after canceling her this spring. Well, at least that's the way I see it. You probably will understand this better if I say CBS has uncanceled Unforgettable, the procedural starring Poppy as a detective with a freakish memory. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Anger Management, Charlie Sheen's new comedy on FX, debuted last night to terrible reviews and fantastic ratings. The show drew 5.5 million viewers to become basic cable's biggest scripted-comedy premiere ever, proving that America has a really weird infatuation with Charlie Sheen. But the new sitcom also helped FX's other comedies, boosting the viewership of Louie and Wilfred, so that's good. [EW]

... NBC is going to air a live broadcast of The Sound of Music because NBC is just plain crazy. It will be produced by the producers of Smash. This should be a delightful disaster. [Deadline Hollywood]

... USA Network has ordered the series Graceland, from White Collar creator Jeff Eastin. The show, which was named something else entirely while it was in development, follows members from different government agencies as they live together under one roof in a safehouse in SoCal. [TV Line]

... Bristol Palin's reality show Bristol Palin: Life's a Tripp has been yanked from primetime because it's a huge failure. It will now air at 11pm on Tuesdays, where it will die a slow death. [The Wrap]

... TLC has renewed Four Weddings. No word yet on the funeral. [EW]

CASTING NEWS

... Erin Andrews and her awesome sweaters are leaving ESPN, meaning we'll all have to masturbate to Stuart Scott now. [Mike Soltys' Twitter]

... NBC's Fashion Star is... still on? Oh. Well, when it returns, it will do so without its host Elle McPherson. She's stepping down but will remain on as a producer. [EW]

... NBC's upcoming Revolution is adding Daniella Alonso to its cast. The former Friday Night Lights actress will play a rebel fighter in the show about a world that's been turned upside-down because power and energy have ceased to exist. [EW]

... The Secret Circle's Chris Zylka will be joining FX's American Horror Story for Season 2. He'll play a deaf-mute character named Daniel, oddly described as "the most beautiful boy in the world." Humble! [EW]

Of course, the title of the show is "Unforgettable".

Just what we need, another gimmicky P.I./cop show.

I've had no power for 48 hours, I feel like I live in the show Revolution.

Unforgettable is coming back? YAY! There are a ton of good shows that should never have been cancelled. Ask the cast of The Listener...now airing its third season north of the border when NBC couldn't even let it finish one.

Finally, they have done something good by uncancelling "Unforgetable". The series shows promise, so I hope they do that with other shows as well.

if uncancelling is an option, that do it for AWAKE. it deserves that.

Any insight on why "Unforgettable" is being brought back? And is it definitely summer of 2013 or when "Elementary" or "Vegas" doesn't pan out? I gave up on the show after seeing Montgomery leap over a car in heels to prevent someone from being shot.

CBS found out that TNT and Lifetime were interested in acquiring Unforgettable, if that was the case then why did the eye cancel it in the first place?

Thanks. You'd think the author of the article could have mentioned that. Well, it worked with "Simon and Simon."

Now uncancel Awake!!

I'm surprised it took this long to cancel Unforgettable. I tried watching it, but couldn't stand it.

Uh...they uncancelled it.

I think NBC should cut into that live Sound of Music with a pre-taped football game.

Okay, now the CW has to follow in CBS' footsteps and do the same for The Secret Circle. I know it'll never happen...but a gal can dream!

I don't care what the haters on here say, I am so happy Unforgettable is back. Thank you so much CBS. :) A lot of people I know will be happy to hear the news.

Graceland? Has USA's blue-sky genre gone Real World?

Now if only their "little sister" network would learn the same lesson and bring back TSC!!!

I am looking forward to Revolution but am not sure if it is Sci-Fi or a reality show of our country being turned upside down...
Reply

they could've brought back TSC instead imo...

Unforgettable could be a great summer staple, even if it is often more about Poppy's perfectly pouty lips than anything else.

I'm just glad Bristol Palin's show is on its way out. One less horrid reality show on TV.

They gave Sarah Palin a show (HUGE mistake). I bet her next series will be a reality show on how to run a failed vice presidential campaign. They gave her daughter a show (HUGE mistake #2). Who's next the son? His show (if he gets on and I'm betting he DOES!) will probably be a reality show on how to get a girl pregnant, not support the baby, and/or how to pose nude and not show anything. If these are the ideas coming out of the heads of TV execs we are in TROUBLE!!! I could care less what Sarah Plain or her loser kids do, do to or with in the state of Alaska.

Of course millions tune in to see how much of a wreck Sheen & his new show may be... But after seeing what it is i.e. just another comedy with cliche writing, often not very funny, I doubt the numbers will be that impressive...

Didnt know bristol palin had a show.... and wish i still didn't know.

Meh, Unforgettable was an okey show but their are better shows that they could have brought back.

There's no laugh track.

I was NOT a fan of 2.r men, but AM was not that bad! there were some great lines and Charlie was not bad! believe me, there are worse shows on tv right now!!!!!!

Just lose the laugh tracks, they are so 70's!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, Wilfred is an unsung great show!!!!!! But alas, it has no laugh track so we dont know when to grin or laugh!!!!

that doesnt surprise me about unforgettable, as soon as the news broke that they didnt renew it every other channel wanted to scoop it up

It sounds like NBC is trying to steal PBS's audience. Next up, one hour specials made two hours long with pledge breaks.

Erin Andrews and her sweaters have dealt with enough sexual harassment Tim; your comment wasn't very classy. I guess that's the same kinda of viewership that watches crap like Anger Management.

On a happier note, no one is watching Bristol Palin's joke of a "show" so at least there are some good humans left.

We're talking about Tim here, who last month questioned whether the incident involving Matthew Fox where he got drunk and punched a female bus driver made him a "full-fledged woman beater." This came after Dominic Monaghan accused Fox of having a history of beating women. Tim was upset about Monaghan's accusations and criticized him rather than what Fox was alleged to have done. Apparently to Tim just because a guy batters only one woman, it doesn't make him a "full-fledged woman beater."

Let me just say, other than Fringe, American Horror Story is probably the new season I'm most looking forward to! The first season was complete genius, in my opinion at least!
