News Briefs: Charlie Gibson is leaving World News

... Charlie Gibson will leave ABC's World News at the end of this year. Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer will replace him. [Variety]

... Professional badass Lena Headey will play Queen Cersei in HBO's Game of Thrones adaptation. [THR]

... Pam's mom on The Office will be played by someone named Linda Purl. Her relative obscurity is intended to contribute to the realism of the show, which apparently is still supposed to be a 3-million-hour-long documentary. [The Ausiello Files]

... Mad Men, which is not a boring show, has been renewed for a 4th season. [DHD]

... Saturday Night Live has added Nasim Pedrad and Jenny Slate to its cast, bringing the number of female members to six. By our count, that is tied with 1980 and 1991 for the most women on the show ever. [The Comic's Comic]

... If you have DirecTV, you don't have the Versus network for now. Tuning to the channel on the DirecTV system displays the message, "Versus is no longer available on this channel. Comcast, which owns Versus, has forced us to take down the channel because we will not submit to their unfair and outrageous demands." Kind of rude, DirecTV! [LAT]

... A trailer has been released for the new season of At The Movies, featuring hosts Michael Phillips and A.O. Scott. After last season's debacle, the producers decided to go with some guys who actually know what they're talking about this year. Exciting! [Defamer]

... Arrested Development's Tony Hale will guest-star on an episode of Numb3rs this fall. Hale will play a biotech professor with what sounds like a questionable sense of ethics. [a href="">The Ausiello Files]

Hopefully Mrs. Sawyer will do just as good a job as Mr. Gibson did.
Games of thrones will be seen by me.
DirecTV wasn't being rude, they were speaking the truth. I have them. Go DTV!
