News Briefs: Dallas, Hawaii Five-O Headed for the Remake Machine

... ABC has ordered full seasons of Wednesday night comedies The Middle, Modern Family, and Cougar Town. Hank, not so much. [Variety]

... Southland, which was set to premiere October 23rd, has been canceled instead. NBC was not confident that it could beat the ratings Dateline is scoring in its timeslot, so blame this on people who like to watch news. Weirdos. [Variety]

... Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry is developing a new hour-long show for ABC's 2010 schedule. It was originally thought to be a Housewives spinoff, but will now be an original concept. [THR]

... Bradley Whitford will play Dan on Jack and Dan, a new hour-long action comedy on Fox. Dan is "a drunken, lecherous, wild-card cop who hangs onto his job only because of a heroic act years before." [THR]

... Dallas is coming back, maybe. Warner Brothers is working on a reboot of the famous primetime soap for TNT. Because when TNT says they know drama, they mean they want to steal some of the CW's audience. [NYT]

... Hawaii Five-O is also coming back, maybe. CBS has given a pilot commitment to the classic police procedural, and CSI: NY executive producer Peter Lenkov will, um, executive produce. [THR]

How can they be thinking of a remake of Hawaii 5-0 and cancel Southland. Even though Hawaii 5-0 was a good show back then it is a re fried and we had hell of a good show in Southland. And Leno, please get him out of our airwaves.

I am not sure Dallas is a good idea. The old one was great, but it was in the 80's when there was not such show competition. Now, it will most definitely flop.

When are networks going to learn that audiences don't want to classic shows get a makeover? I liked the original Dallas and I'm not keen on seeing the remake.

Undoubtedly, the Hawaii 5-0 theme will be turned into a Hawaiian rap.

Okay . . . that wasn't as funny as I thought it would be,
but I'm sure they'll do something equally lolo ;)
(and who is this "they", anyway?) ;)

NBC can't afford to cancel shows that are even half-way decent. The Hawaii Five-0 remake (or re-imaging) sounds like a bad idea.

Originally, this was supposed to be a movie based off the series, which was bad enough! But now to try and remake THE classic cop show of all time is a travesty. Quite apart from the fact that its just one more NON-original idea (aka; lazy) I strongly feel..."can't touch this"...DON'T do it, CBS!

The Hawaii Five-0 pilot isn't news...there has been talk of a pilot for several years now revolving around the son of McGarrett heading Five-0.
