News Briefs: Damages, Southland, and J.J. Abrams' new show

... Bad Robot, J.J. Abrams' production company, has sold a pilot for a half-hour comedy to FOX. Variety says it's a "medical comedy" but we're sure J.J. will find a way to fit some time-traveling secret agents in there somewhere. [Variety]

... It looks like Damages is turning into a Robert Altman movie. Not really, but Lily Tomlin, Keith Carradine, Martin Short, and Campbell Scott are all coming aboard for various portions of the third season. [Variety]

... Amaury Nolasco, instead of becoming a regular on Southland, is leaving after just three episodes. Clifton Collins Jr. will take his place. Have you ever noticed that Clifton Collins dies horribly in basically everything he's in? That might be a spoiler but if it is it's only because we are psychic. [THR]

... Kevin Federline, whose existence we wish we were not aware of, will appear on the next season of Celebrity Fit Club, with his ex-wife Shar Jackson. Wait, Kevin Federline is fat now? Do you think he got fat just so he could be on Celebrity Fit Club? That would be sad but not at all surprising. [People via TV Tattle]

... NBC is "close to greenlighting" a backdoor pilot called The Mountain. It's about "a single mom with three kids who inherits a property from a supposedly dead uncle. During an impromptu visit there, they discover a treasure trove of history." As far as we can tell, this is not a remake of that Oliver Hudson show with the same name that was on the WB for like half a season in 2004. Feel free to form your own opinions on whether this is good or bad. [THR]
