News Briefs: Damon Lindelof at HBO Would Be Pretty Cool, Actually

BUSINESS TIME

... Are you ready for two-and-a-half great seasons of a six-season show? Just kidding, Lost fans. Lost co-creator and adamant finale-defender Damon Lindelof has a project in the works at HBO of all places. The project is based on the Tom Perrotta book The Leftovers, which follows those left behind in a cosmic event that some consider the Rapture. Sounds like a cool project for a guy who should thrive at HBO. But seriously, what was up with Aaron? Was he the Man in Black or Jacob reincarnated? Why did he have to be raised by Claire? Why... sorry. Back to work. [Deadline Hollywood]

... AMC is now in danger of losing another carrier. AT&T; U-Verse might be dropping the home of Breaking Bad and Mad Men because of AMC is asking for an increase in carriage fees. Guys, please! Just work it out! Dish Network is also currently in a holdout with AMC, and these games of chicken better end before Breaking Bad returns on July 15. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Comedy Central has ordered three new series. Anthony Jeselnik will topline a topical series, Amy Schumer will star in a sketch show, and Ben Hoffman will be the centerpiece of the sketchy The Ben Show, which will see Hoffman trying out new things each and every week. All three will be on the network's schedule in 2013. [Comedy Central via press release]

... The Walking Dead is getting its own magazine. I think we can fairly say this is too much. [The Wrap]

CASTING NEWS

... I don't know how you go from the sugary Glee to badass Vikings, but Jessalyn Gilsig is doing it. The actress who plays Will Schuester's ex-wife is joining History's Vikings as the wife of the lead character played by Gabriel Byrne. Travis Fimmel, Gustaf Skarsgard, Clive Standen, and Katheryn Winnick were also added to the cast but I don't know who any of those people are but I would totally get a beer with Gustaf because that's the kind of name a drinking buddy should have. [History via press release]

... Erinn Hayes, who is very funny, has joined NBC's sitcom Guys With Kids, which looks very unfunny. The Childrens Hospital star will play the role of naggy Sheila, the wife of Jesse Bradford's character. Erinn, you deserve more than this but hey, it's a paycheck. [EW]

... It's official! Ann Curry is OUT of Today, and she cried telling everyone the news on television. She's expected to be replaced by Savannah Guthrie. [MSN]

veep, girls and luck already pissed all over the fondness i had for HBO, bringing in a writer from lost is the logical next step.

Jessalyn Gilsig and Katheryn Winnick would make for some mind blowingly sexy viking tv. lets hope the series starts in the summer with the girls on the coast somewhere in two piece faux furs.

I loved Lost through the great and the not-so great, plus I find the Post-Rapture idea very intriguing. And on HBO? I'll definitely check it out.

Why is there all this furor over Ann Curry leaving the Today show? It's not Johnny Carson getting fired, it's an awkward soft-news player being moved out of the host slot. It's like complaining they replaced your vanilla pudding with tapioca, everybody on that show is soft-news boring, there is no entertainment value at all on the show, it's just there to be in the background while people make breakfast.

Jeselnik.0, huh CC? And his ex-girlfriend gets a sketch show? I wonder who those 2 have pictures of, they're both moderately funny but COME ON, this is ridiculous. (Sorry Schumer for the 2nd billing, I actually knew of you first from Last Comic Standing, but the article mentioned him first.)

Who are we kidding??? There is so little ambitious scifi on TV these days... of course we'll check out whatever madness Lindelof produces... one good season of something is better than nothing....

lots of ppl must be slow b/c they seem not know why ann curry really left.let me hand it our for the those who dont know.nbc was gone get rid of matt and replace him with ryan secrest.nbc even offer hryan 50 million or more to take the matt place at nbc hopen to bring in ratings.but ryan turned it down saying his too busy for it.then matt from nbc heard about it and was like if yall can afford to pay ryan that much money youll need to pay me or im gone.by this point nbc was in a corner b/c they didnt want to lose matt and not have ryan.so they raise matt income.then ann found out and ask them if they can raise matt why not everyone else since they been working on today just as long as matt.then nbc fired her for opening her mouth and guess what matt then even take up for her.nbc is so wrong for doing ann like that.at least some ppl know whats really going on.so sad.if matt can get a raise everyone should get it.besides matt gets under my skin.

What is going on at AMC? Come on guys the economy is s**t right now, can you calm down a bit. They better not try this crap with DirecTV anytime soon.

Poor Anne Curry. I loved waking up to her on The Today Show when she replaced Meredith. If you watched it live, even through all the tears you can tell how pissed she was. Savannah Guthrie sucks and she will make their rating go down more just you watch. I would rather it was Natalie Morales that took over for Anne.

I felt like HBO was smarter than that. But then again I felt like Ridley Scott was too. Oh well.

The idea of a post-rapture type show sounds very interesting, but I don't trust Lindelof anymore. Lost became so bad in season 4, and the aspects he was in charge of in Prometheus (dialogue) were horrible.

All those new Comedy Central shows sound great. Anthony Jeselnik is one of my favorite comedians, and sketch shows are always great.

Season 4 was Lost at its best. I have no idea what you're going on about. Sign me up for The Leftovers. Love Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Been keeping an eye on both ever since the finale. I thought they would have tried their hand at the Dark Tower, but that didn't happen. Thankfully, that show's supposedly getting close to production. And remember, good art doesn't beat you over the head with answers, it asks the right questions.

There is a distinct and drastic difference between asking questions and simply not making sense or having anything to say. Positing a story in which no character actions have any discernible motivations or logic doesn't fall in the asking questions bucket.

I think Katheryn Winnick is the one from the episode of House, One Day One Room, which was one of the best episodes the show produced (it was awesome). Anyway, the cast of Vikings is starting to look pretty good so I might have to check it out.

And yes, Erinn Hayes deserves a LOT better than Guy's With Kids.

Ann Curry got "Conan O'Brien screwed" by NBC. At least she'll be able to cry into pillows made out of hundies....

Oh Tim, we know you were't kidding about the Lost comment you made. It's no secret that The Walking Dead is a huge thing, but a magazine? Seriously?
