News Briefs: Fox Renews So You Think You Can Dance for Season 9

NEWS ABOUT SHOWS GETTING RENEWED

... Fox has ordered a ninth season of So You Think You Can Dance, the reality competition show that's 99 percent about dancing and only one percent about thinking. Look for another round of people impressively jumping about sometime next summer. [Fox, via press release]

... Fox has also officially ordered a third season of Masterchef, the reality cooking competition for people who don't know the Food Network exists. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay stars/yells. Open casting calls begin October 29 in Los Angeles, so get that recipe for toast perfected! [Fox, via press release]

... Cinemax has ordered a second season of its original action drama Strike Back. The series will return for ten more episodes sometime in 2012. I've heard some good things about this one, but haven't gotten around to watching it. One of the selling points was an episode where guest-stars Mr. Eko and Ser Jorah Mormont fought each other. Cool! ... Adult Swim has fulfilled its acronym quota by renewing NTSD:SD:SUV:: for a second season. The live-action procedrual spoof stars Paul Scheer as the leader of an anti-terrorist group. Look for it to return in 2012. [Adult Swim via press release]

... Netflix reportedly wants to help Reno 911! make a comeback. Then again, Netflix is in discussions to bring back every show that ever went off the air. [Vulture]

During an interview to support her new show Crazy Sex with Ghosts in Gimp Suits, Connie Britton said that the rumored Friday Night Lights movie, to be based on the show that was based on the movie that was based on the book is, and I quote, "happening for realsies." NEWS ABOUT PEOPLE COMING TO SHOWS YOU LOVE

... Ringer will host a mini Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunion when Amber Benson guest-stars as a stripper. Benson played Willow's girlfriend Tara Maclay on Buffy. [TV Guide]

... The October 24 episode of How I Met Your Mother will bring back several former guest-stars in what looks to be an epic family reunion. Chris Elliot, Wayne Brady, Frances Conroy, and Bill Fagerbakke will all return to the CBS comedy. Yes, even Fagerbakke, who played Marshall's now-dead father, is coming back. Zombie episode? [EW]

... NBC's upcoming musical drama Smash, which is generating a lot of positive buzz, is lining up lots of guests. The show, about the production of a Broadway musical, will welcome Bernadette Peters and Nick Jonas, people whose respective fan bases know nothing about each other. [THR]

... American Horror Story got off to a solid start, freaking the absolute shit out of 3.2 million viewers during its first airing last night. Once you add the encore airing, the thriller was seen by 5 million viewers. But that may just be because 1.8 million viewers from the original audience wanted to see Dylan McDermott crysturbate again. [Deadline Hollywood]
