News Briefs: FX Announces Midseason Return Dates for Justified and Archer

THE MAIN COURSE

... FX has announced three midseason premiere dates: Justified, one of the most underrated shows on television (seriously, watch it), returns January 17 at 10pm. Animated comedy Archer, one of the most underrated shows on television (seriously, watch it) comes back January 19 at 10pm. Finally, new animated comedy Unsupervised, touted as being from some writers from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, will debut after Archer. [FX, via press release]

... Take this lightly, but Flight of the Conchords may return as a movie. Bret McKenzie, half of the titular duo, told totalfilm.com "We're gonna try and do a movie. We just need a story." Silly joke or rock-solid promise? Probably a joke, but we're missing "Business Time" so much that we'll hold him to his words. [Totalfilm.com]

... Everyone's been wondering what Regis Philbin will do next now that he's left his seat indentation at LIVE! with Regis and Kelly. Word is he's thinking of bringing yet another talent show to primetime, which is more proof that Regis needs to retire from television and take up Bridge or computer Solitaire for the rest of his days. [NY Post]

... ABC and NBC have each purchased a new comedy for their development slates. ABC bought The Cult of Mac, about a man who "casts back into his 1987 Chicago childhood with his iconoclast/crazy dad Mac for inspiration in parenting his progressive, modern San Francisco family," whatever that means. NBC is going with Four Play, about four people raising an adopted child. It was written by actress Liz Vassey. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Tommy Lee's Culture Shock with Tommy Lee, which would see the rocker travel around the world and participate in unusual foreign customs, is apparently dead at Syfy before it ever aired. A few days late, but another thing to be thankful for. [NY Post]

... ABC's The Revolution, a daytime talk show that offers tips on enhancing your life, will debut on January 16 in the slot that Once Life to Live once occupied. [Deadline Hollywood]

APPETIZERS

... Louis C.K. is returning to Parks and Recreation as Leslie's ex-boyfriend, because Louis C.K. is awesome. [TV Line]

... But that's not all: Kathryn Hahn, recently of Free Agents, will recur on Parks and Recreation as the campaign manager of Leslie's opponent. Kathryn Hahn is also awesome. [Deadline Hollywood]

... The X Factor may swap judges overseas. Simon Cowell is talking about exporting U.S. judge Nicole Scherzinger to the British version, and importing former Destiny's Child and current U.K. judge Kelly Rowland to take her place. Sure, whatever. [NY Post]

DESSERT

... Someone is making actual Dunder-Mifflin-branded (the fictional company from NBC's The Office) copy paper. Because that's what the world needs. [Wall Street Journal]

Justified is on my TV to watch list. Right after Deadwood and Homeland.

The writing on "Justified" is some of the very best on television. I look forward to its great dialogue possibly more than that of any other show. Major thumbs up for "Archer," too. It lessens the pain over losing "Frisky Dingo" all too soon.

Not sure about those pilots but hopefully Liz Vassey will appear in front of the camera on hers.

And I respectfully disagree with your assertion that Kathryn Hahn is awesome. ;-)

Great, Justified is not far away, pity they killed off one of my favorite characters.

The wait for two of the best shows of the season, once "Sons" is done in two weeks, "Justified" and "Archer" is going to seem long. Speaking of which, the wait for "Game of Thrones" is going to be unbearable.

YAAY! New Justified only seven weeks away? What great news! I guess I'll have to re-watch all the previous episodes over Christmas to get ready. Now I just want to find out when Terriers will be returning. Oh...that's right...it's not. Well I guess you can't have everything you want. ;-( At least Royal Pains must be returning pretty soon right?

I think its needed to mention that the new animated show on FX will be made by the secondary writing team from IASIP, and not the gang themselves. Also, really looking forwards to Justified and Archer.

I've always been terrified of watching Regis & Kelly because I was almost certain he would have an heart attack on air. Is that weird? Oh and Kelly Ripa needs to have her mouth stapled shut.

Great News! I've been waiting when Justified will return. I quite knew it Justified would've an early return being in January. First Season Premiere in March, Second Season Premiere in February and now for the Third Season Premiere in January. It's nice to see the crime night doesn't end after Sons of Anarchy. It quite continues on, into the 2nd half of the Season Schedule with Justified picking up what Sons of Anarchy left off. It's like they're 2 shows into one place program.

Wow! Justified's Season 3 is Premiering on Jim Carrey's birthday turning 50. Isn't fun how things turn out to be plan, not just only the big event going on the same exactly day.

Great news about Louie coming back to P&R (I like Ben, but I always wondered 'what if' with Leslie+Louis). And why is Nicole S. even wasting her time as a judge -- if anyone deserves to be a singing superstar it's her.

Justified is a really great show. Before this current season of Sons of Anarchy, I had Justified pegged as probably my second favorite drama on TV. Also, Archer is hilarious. I love it that I'll be able to watch new episodes of both soon... although a month and a half seems a bit far.

I'd declare FX as my favorite network, but I'm still cheesed (yes, cheesed) at them for cancelling Terriers.
