News Briefs: Hawaii Five-0 Will Let Viewers Decide the Ending of an Upcoming Episode

THE FUTURE IS NOW

... Who would have thought that one of the most experimental shows on television would be CBS's Hawaii Five-0? The January 14 episode of the drama remake will play Choose Your Own Adventure and let viewers decide in real time how the episode will end. Through Twitter or CBS.com, the audience will vote for which of three suspects (pictured above) they think pulled off the crime, and the ending will correspond to the most popular vote cast. All three endings will be available online after the episode airs. Note: This "event" will happen for the East and West Coast airings only, so don't madly tweet that the butler did it when you're watching it on DVR. [CBS via press release]

CASTING NEWS

... Okay this is sorta casting news. Community writer Megan Ganz, who wrote the episodes "Cooperative Calligraphy" (the bottle episode with Annie's missing pen) and "Advanced Lupine Urology" (last season's Law & Order spoof), is leaving the show effective immediately. She broke the news on Reddit yesterday, and announced that she will join the staff of Modern Family. The S.S. Community, it sinks. [Reddit]

... Adam Levine is hosting Saturday Night Live on January 19 with musical guest Kendrick Lamar. [NBC via press release]

... IFC's upcoming indie animated comedy Out There has announced its voice cast. Fred Armisen (Portlandia), Megan Mullally (Childrens Hospital), Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks), John DiMaggio (Futurama), and Pamela Adlon (Louie) will all say things that will be recorded and synched to the moving mouths of animated characters. The series, which debuts February 22, follows cartoonish adolescent youths and comes from South Park's Ryan Quincy. [IFC via press release]

... Rumor alert! Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence might star together in comedy! The two are in discussions to join a sitcom project that's being assembled at Lionsgate TV. There are no details on the comedy other than that it would be multi-camera and follow the super-syndication model of Anger Management. At last, the Martin-Frasier crossover we've all been praying for! [Deadline Hollywood]

... House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will guest-star in the series finale of 30 Rock. What a get! [Washington Post]

... Navid Negahban, who plays Abu Nazir on Showtime's Homeland, will guest-star in a February episode of CSI: NY. He'll play a bad guy, obviously. [TV Guide]

I vote for Alex O'Loughlin to take his shirt off. Just watch. I bet it happens.

Yes, I find this infinitly more interesting than your take on the Fringe episode that aired before Christmas. Oh wait, we don't know your take on the last episode of Fringe to air. Just sayin'...

It seems irrelevant if anyone could be the criminal. Stories are suppose to be written leading up to a focus with all the events in that story relevant to the ending. But making the ending just the most popular makes that story pointless. Imagine if the police selected the criminal just by picking someone?

Hawaii Five-0 is written so poorly that ANYBODY could have done it?

Oh, sad, more Community departures. Most of the season is in the can though, and nobody really believes it'll get another season, so it makes sense to find a job that'll be there next year.

I bet Adam Levine will be an outstanding live-stage actor, he's so believable as Adam Levine on The Voice.

Why is Martin Lawrence being allowed to work still? And why is he being considered to star against Kelsey Grammer?

Re: Megan Ganz - At least you're being alarmist about it. She says in her entry that she still has to do her "editing pass" on the finale, which means the season is DONE. She's not jumping ship, nothing is sinking because of this news. The season is over and she is working somewhere else.

I'm sorry to lose Megan Ganz from Community, though I'm sure it's a great career move. It's kind of like HIMYM's Marshall leaving his job at the environmental law firm and going back to work for GNB. Nancy Pelosi on 30 Rock? She seems a better fit for Parks & Rec. Whatever, I'm sure it will be great. Tina Fey is, as she called David Letterman, a National Treasure.

Oh, Megan. Switching to a position that probably has better job security and pay? You disappoint me.

So I guess now I need to check out Modern Family, huh?

Technically it should be for East, Central, and West viewers. Remember the Eastern & Central Time Zones get the episode at the same time.

That thing with the fans of Hawaii Five-O choosing the ending to an upcoming episode sounds similar to that one episode of Spongebob where the fans got to choose an ending for that episode.

Once upon a time, they made a movie that had many possible solutions, and there were three different final reels with three different outcomes. The idea was that people would go see it again and again to see all the different endings. That is not what happened.

I believe that movie was Clue

Or the Law and Order: Criminal Intent episode where viewers got to vote on whether Goren's nemesis got to live or die. My immediate reaction to "you decide the ending" is "that must be some lousy story if it can go in that many directions."

I thought Jennifer Lawrence was hosting Jan. 19th with musical guest the Lumineers. Adam is hosting the 26th.

It would be cooler if just before each commercial break they asked "What will you do next? Interrogate the pool boy? Look for clues by the alligator pond? Accuse the mob boss?" And it shows that scene after the break. And the episode should definitely end with "You have died." unless you pick the correct sequence of choices.
