News Briefs: Is Britney Spears Headed to The X Factor?

BRB gonna go shave my head.

... Alternating pop star and train wreck Britney Spears has been approached to join The X Factor as a judge. Word is that the show has offered her $10 million to join the panel alongside Simon Cowell, but apparently she's holding out for $16 million, according to one report. Britney! Take the money! $10 million still buys plenty of Taco Bell! [E! Online]

... Troublesome, but expected, ratings news for Awake. After its premiere posted a respectable 2.0 rating in the adult demo a week ago, last night's second episode sunk 20 percent to a 1.6 rating. Last week, the show had the advantage of going up against repeats, but this week it went up against a new episode of The Mentalist, and Patrick Jane's handsome smile will always defeat good television. Awake is still a long way away from getting canceled, though. [Deadline Hollywood]

... You may not see Tristan Wilds in the final four episodes of 90210, and not just because you don't watch this show. Wilds has come down with an undisclosed illness that will sideline him for an undetermined amount of time. Wilds, who plays Dixon, will be written out of the last four episodes when his singer character goes on tour. [E! Online]

... Saturday Night Live's Will Forte has been added to the cast of NBC's comedy pilot Rebounding. He'll play a man who is getting over the death of his fiancé with the help of his pick-up basketball team. This cast is developing nicely. In addition to Forte, Rebounding stars Aly Michalka (Hellcats), Malcolm Barrett (Better Off Ted), and Matt Jones (Breaking Bad). [Deadline Hollywood]

... Dexter and No Ordinary Family vet Julie Benz has landed the lead in Syfy's Defiance. The sci-fi drama is set in a future where aliens and humans coexist on a war-torn earth. Benz will play the mayor of a mining town. A female mayor! Ha! Only in Hollywood! (jk!) [TV Line]

... Neal MacDonough, who is currently owning fools on Justified as Robert Quarles, will co-star in LA Noir, the TNT drama from Frank Darabont. He'll switch sides and actually play a good guy for once, suiting up in the blue of LA's police chief and looking to clean up the city. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Denise Richards has joined the cast of Lifetime's remake of The Blue Lagoon. But don't expect any coconut bras for Richards; she's playing the MILF. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Susan Lucci is getting out of daytime! But she's staying on a soap! Lucci, who starred on the recently canceled All My Children for 41 years (41 years!), will star in ABC's Devious Maids, a drama about maids who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Lucci will play someone rich and famous, obviously. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Martha Stewart will guest-star on CBS's 2 Broke Girls in early May. She'll play herself and will probably talk about her vagina. [CBS via press release]

... USA's Political Animals is putting together a pretty great cast. In addition to James Wolk and Sigourney Weaver, Carla Gugino is set to star in the drama about a former first family in Washington. Gugino will play a journalist looking to derail the former first lady's (Weaver) career. [Deadline Hollywood]
