News Briefs: Is Howard Stern Joining America's Got Talent

REALITY SHOW NEWS

... Pervy radio host Howard Stern is in discussions to America's Got Talent as a judge. It would be a major win for the show, which has been in need of a little more star power since David Hasselhoff left the show a few years ago. NBC and Stern are reportedly working on a deal worth $15 million a year. Which is good because Stern is really hurting for money after spending it all on sybian cleaning services. [NY Post]

... The spot on America's Got Talent that Stern will potentially fill is open because Piers Morgan announced yesterday that he would be leaving the show's judging panel. Morgan started hosting Piers Morgan Tonight on CNN early this year, and doesn't think he can juggle both. Now the judging panel consists of a British woman who swears a lot and a man who became famous for putting rubber gloves over his head. [Piers Morgan's Twitter]

... Fox is shuffling around The X Factor during the week of Thanksgiving. The singing show, which usually airs Wednesday and Thursday, will air on Tuesday and Wednesday (the 22nd and 23rd) that week to avoid clashing with tryptophan comas. [Sun Sentinel]

... Speaking of full bellies, MTV's Teen Mom 2 returns December 6! Wow! What a slow news day! [E! Online]

CASTING NEWS

... CBS is revamping The Early Show and has pegged Charlie Rose and Gayle King to host the two-hour news show. Word on the street is that the new show will air early next year. [NY Times]

... Supernatural will welcome The X-Files' Nicholas Lea to guest star as Eliot Ness, the famous fed that brought down Al Capone. Sam and Dean will travel to 1940s Chicago and find out that Ness wasn't just in the FBI, he was also a hunter! Sounds kind of like "Frontierland," where Sam and Dean time-traveled to the Old West to meet fellow hunter Samuel Colt. Also, Once Upon a Time's Meghan Ory (she plays Little Red Riding Hood), will guest star in episode 11 as a prostitute. Aww yeah. [TV Line]

... More Supernatural news! Misha Collins, who plays Castiel on the CW show, will guest star on Ringer as a man who was partly responsible for the rift between Bridget and Siobhan. Can we start a petition to make sure Collins never plays anyone but Castiel on TV? [TV Guide]

... Jesse Plemons, best known as Landry from Friday Night Lights, will recur on NBC's midseason comedy Bent. Plemons will play a member of a construction team that already includes J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm). [TV Line]

... Just because you are the World Series MVP, doesn't mean you make good career choices. St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese will play himself on ABC's atrocious midseason comedy Work It. But given how fast this garbage will get canceled, we may never see his episode. [EW]

... Wilmer Valderrama gets way too mentions in News Briefs. Yesterday he booked a guest role on Suburgatory, today he's got one on NBC's upcoming Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea. The news here is that it reunites him with his That '70s Show co-star Laura Prepon. [EW]

... Party Down's Ryan Hansen will drop by Happy Endings as the next dating disaster for Penny (Casey Wilson). Hansen will play a successful guy who is "style challenged." [TV Line]

... David Anders (Heroes, Alias) will check in to House early next year as a patient. Early buzz on the episode is that it's a doozy, and Anders' role is pivotal for the series. Perhaps he and Dr. House will fall in love! [TV Line]

    This whole thing was horrible

  • Gold_Ruby

Mischa Collins on Ringer? I already miss him as Castiel, this really means that he won't be back anytime soon.

  • furiousfunk

People, if you want to Bash Howard Stern then at least have the grace to admit you've never listened to his show because none of you seem to know what his show is about or what is done on the show. Howard Stern would be AMAZING on America's Got Talent and for once it'd be nice to have an actual AMERICAN to be a judge on it. If he took this piddly job then he'd quickly be the most loved judge on any of these shows because he'll tell the truth and be hilarious when doing it. That said, I don't see him flying to Los Angeles to do a stupid TV show for the trite amount of $15 million, he makes that in his sleep.

I thought Howie Mandel became famous for playing the curly-haired doctor wearing a baseball jersey on St. Elsewhere. And has anyone kept count of how many times CBS has revised The Early Show's format? (Best format: Hughes Rudd and Sally Quinn. Worst format: Mariette Hartley and some guy whose name I can't remember)

Piers Morgan leaving, I can take, there are plenty of worthy replacements but Howard Stern is the beginning of the end.

Again, please use less snark in writing these articles. I like them for the news, but I get so annoyed trying to rake through the obnoxious comments around the news bits to actually enjoy reading it.

For me, I'm not sure how I'm going to like the show without Piers. AGT is the only reality show I watch, mainly because I enjoy the three judges and Nick Cannon's a good host. The four of them are entertaining together. It has far less drama, then American Idol. Piers brought class to the show and he's honest.

Noo! Misha was so fun in that Nip/Tuck episode...Laughed my ass off. He couldn't stop sucking on.....himself :S Love him as Castiel but Misha should be on more shows or even better the star of some new amazing series.

  • lalaforever1989

Sooooooooooooo Stern will say dick, pussy, and ass alot then tell them they can't sing? I could totally do that!

  • Parsec54

If there IS any such thing as a higher power in this universe, Howard Stern will never again get anywhere near a tv camera or a microphone. In fact, he'll be transported to a dimension where he'll be turned invisible and mute and no one will ever have to put up with the sewage spewing from his brain again

  • DavidJackson8

At the very least, Howard Stern is quite witty and quick. He could be an awesome judge. I guess the problem is that yes, he has no "class" (lol, class).

  • jekyll

So let's get this straight. NBC is losing one of the classier celebs out there, so their plan is to replace him with one of the most repugnant human beings ever? Howard Stern is such a disgusting, stupid person, and it's a travesty that he's rich and famous. Please, no more airtime for him.

um.....what? the news posted said "Guest Star" on the show, doesnt say he is joining the show. doesnt have any effect on his status on "Supernatural"

  • CJ42090

I would love to see Stern on AGT. He can bring the harsh honesty that Piers brought except he'll be able to bring some humor with it. Plus he'd probably mesh well with Howie and Sharon.

  • Akyriel

Wasn't the Early Show already revamped? They fired everyone a year or two ago, didn't they?

  • Left4Ed

Awesome... Now all the people who said Ringer was shit and didn't give it a chance are all going to be watching in a few weeks, when Misha Collins shows up. I HATE PEOPLE WHO DO THAT! I don't like American Horror Story but I love Zachary Quinto! Doesn't mean I started watching the show! If you don't like a show, don't watch it cause some celebrity shows up on it! It's an insult to the fans who have been there since the beginning.

<sarcasm>Good idea, screw the ratings boost! I personally hate it when my favorite show goes up. </scarcasm>

I'm a firm believer everyone should watch whatever the hell they want, to be honest, this 'true fan' BS is just that, BS. Watch your show and quit b*tching. And for the record, I stopped watching Ringer, and I won't be watching it when Misha shows up. Go forth and celebrate the good news.

If it were ANY other show, I'd agree with you. But considering Ringer is almost universally panned by viewers and critics alike, people who hate the show or have never watched it before will suddenly be tuning. The responses on Twitter from squealing fangirls supports that statement fully. It pretty much amounts to stunt casting, which is a double edged sword. When Summer Glau reared her ugly head in Alphas, it was the highest rated episode of the season, only for the ratings to dip down back to normal the following week. So yes, ratings go up, for ONE episode, which almost never reflects on the show positively during renewal time. Especially shows so bad off as Ringer. Because it reflects how sad the show is, that only a bit of stunt casting caused a spike in ratings. So take your sarcasm with you and don't tune in to Ringer. If you didn't have enough faith in a show to stick with it and see it getting better over time, you don't deserve to watch it at all. Stunt casting or no.moreless

No offense, but Ringer is by no means universally panned by viewers and critics. The overall reaction to Ringer by both groups has been mixed, it's part of that group of tv shows you either hate or love, with nothing in between.
As for the ratings, I doubt there will be much of an increase...
Oh and Ringer's ratings have been steady and doing well considering a terrible lead in, as it's third in total viewers of the channel.

I am officially sick of teen mom shows. So proud of myself :)

Howard Stern joining AGT... well, there goes all the class out of that show.

I definitely will be watching AGT for the first time if Howard is on-board. Love 'em or hate 'em you know he gonna mix thing up with the other judges and contestants. He's infamous for his scathing opinions and is clearly not afraid to share them with a national audience.
This is one ballzy move for such family oriented show but if it works out, ratings ka-ching!
I give this decision five Baba Booey's.
