News Briefs: Lindsay Lohan Will Play Elizabeth Taylor for a Lifetime Biopic


... Lindsay Lohan's return to being a respectable human being will involve Elizabeth Taylor. Lohan has officially signed on to play Liz in the Lifetime biopic Liz & Dick. STOP GIGGLING! The film will re-tell the tale of Liz Taylor's steamy romance with Richard Burton. Lohan has publicly stated she wants to be good-famous again instead of drug-and-slut-famous, and successfully lobbied to host a recent episode of Saturday Night Live. [Lifetime via press release]

... Mia Kirshner (The L Word) has been cast in Syfy's Defiance, about a post-apocalyptic boomtown. Kirshner will play the town madam. Also joining the series is Fionnula Flanagan, the actress who played Eliose Hawking on Lost. She'll play the town's former mayor who mentors the new mayor, played by Julie Benz. Syfy has not yet announced a premiere date for Defiance. [Syfy via press release]

... Lie to Me fan favorite Brendan Hines will make a guest appearance on USA's Covert Affairs. He'll play a really nice guy in Episode 3. [TV Line]


... Fox held its 25th birthday party on Sunday with a two-hour special celebrating its existence. And people didn't watch. Only 4.19 million viewers tuned in, putting the network in last place for the night. Don't let that discourage you from live-streaming your birthday party, though. ... Funny fat man Zack Galifianakis is bringing his web series Between Two Ferns to primetime. A 30-minute episode will feature an awkward Zack interviewing Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, and Richard Branson while potted plants stand to either side of him. These things are funny, YouTube 'em. [EW]

... The BBC (or Beebs if you're friends mates) has canceled Upstairs, Downstairs after two seasons. Ask your local British ambassador what the show was about. [BBC]


... Not to be outdone by his former ER cast mate George Clooney, Noah Wyle has been arrested for protesting something. The Falling Skies star was cuffed in Washington, D.C. while protesting potential cuts to Medicaid from Congress. I guess I have to like this guy now? [TMZ]
