News Briefs: Misha Collins (But Not Castiel?) Is Returning to Supernatural

CAS-TING NEWS FIRST TODAY

... The last time Supernatural fans saw Castiel, he stumbled into a pond and melted into black goo. But thankfully, it won't be the last time fans see him on the series. Err... well sort of. Fan-favorite actor Misha Collins is returning to the series for three episodes but—and here's the catch—he may not appear as Castiel, producers are eager to warn. Does this mean Jimmy Novak, Castiel's vessel, will make an appearance? [TV Line]

... Ryan Kwanten, True Blood's resident Aussie beefcake (he plays Jason), will guest-star on Fox's New Girl as a potential love interest for Jess (Zooey Deschanel). So that's why Zooey's getting divorced. I don't blame her. [E! Online]

... Clark Duke of Clark and Michael (and Greek and Kick Ass, but those aren't as cool) is stopping by New Girl to play a character who Nick gets in trouble. I'm pretty sure Zooey didn't get divorced for this one. [TV Line]

... Lost's Man in Black, Titus Welliver, is heading to Grimm. He'll play one of the Grimm creatures being hunted by Nick. Welliver has also appeared on Supernatural, Sons of Anarchy, and The Good Wife. [TV Line]

... House is welcoming back Dr. House's Season 7 wife Dominica. Karolina Wydra will return early next year in a recurring role after being absent for most of the current season even though she's married to the main character (albeit for the purposes of getting a green card). You don't marry a foreign hottie so she can live in America without taking some "tax," if you know what I'm saying. (I'm saying sex.) [TV Line]

NAMING NEWS

... This is a public service announcement: Uour new favorite show is called Newsroom. That's the name the upcoming Aaron Sorkin-penned drama about a 24-hour cable news outlet has chosen. Gotta say I preferred the much more colorful More As the Story Develops. [HBO Watch]

SCHEDULING, RENEWING, GREENLIGHTING

... Fox is bumping Bones' midseason finale until next year to help promote its spin-off The Finder. The episode, originally scheduled to air December 15, will now air on January 12 as a lead-in for The Finder before disappearing until the spring. The series is already working with a shortened season and a wacky schedule due to star Emily Deschanel's real-life pregnancy. [TV Line]

... The CW is developing a show starring Sara Rue (Less Than Perfect) called Poseurs. It's a comedy about two women who pretend to be lesbians so they can keep their fancy New York apartment. Decent idea for a movie, terrible idea for a TV series. [THR]

... Showtime has renewed Web Therapy for a ten-episode second season. Meryl Streep will guest-star for an arc. Maybe this will be her big break. [Deadline Hollywood]

... TLC has greenlighted Hook, Line & Sisters, a docu-drama about a family of deep-sea fishermen and women, including two twentysomething daughters. Yay. [Deadline Hollywood]

AND BECAUSE WE HAVE TO...

... Madonna has officially been named the halftime entertainment for this year's Super Bowl, performing alongside Cirque du Soleil. Interestingly, my nightmare last night involved the exact same thing! [NJ.com]

I've missed Castiel. After Bobby (maybe?) dying in the last episode, I need a familiar face. And I guess Jimmy's will do.

How about a fair SPOILER warning next time?

I'll take Misha Collins anyway i can get him. Although i do kinda miss Castiel, as long as Misha is still in the show, i'm happy. Keep him there forever!

I look forward to the episodes of Supernatural which will have Misha Collins but not as Castiel. New Girl seems to be gaining more guest star appearances from some great names. Sara Rue playing a woman pretending to be a lesbian should be interesting especially after her character on Eastwick who seemed to be into her best friend a little too much!

I like Sara Rue but I don't know about that show.

In Supernatural, I suspect it's one of the leviathans that has taken over Novak's body that will be appearing, maybe to help Sam and Dean.

And it seems as if this week's Bones will be the last one until January, so we have to wait a month after this week for the next episode, then a few months for the rest. I don't think it will help The Finder much though. If anything they could run the risk of hurting Bones. With the few we've got so far this year it might have been better just to hold them all until spring.

Dean and Sam are the heart of Supernatural and all other characters are only there to help or hinder them on their jouney through their dark and difficult world.

There was no necessity to bring back Castiel as his arc was over after a good three season run.

I liked the idea of Poseurs when it was originally called Three's Company and John Ritter played a gay guy to stay in his apartment. Kinda pissed that Misha is coming back to SPN but if it's as Jimmy, I won't mind so much. Cas, while a badass, is dead and he needs to stay that way. Or come back as a ghost/memory/flashback/universal alternate the way everyone else has.

I doubt Cas is dead, if he is then it was a pretty lame death!

Yes, it's cool when fan favorites come back from the dead. Gordon, Agent Hendricks, Rufus, Jo, Ellen, etc. But damn, this reeks of fan service and unnecessary fan service at that. Unless it is a totally bitchin' story arc and blows the socks off of everyone, it's a worthless, cheap writing excuse to bump ratings after the writers killed off the patron saint of the noob fan-fags and alienated all the thirteen year old girls. The show has been doing wonderfully with him gone. Why can't we keep it that way?

Have to agree with you here.

Things were calming down a little with the fans and now it will all start again.

The ratings were doing fine without Castiel.

I thought that the writers were going down their own road without listening to the fans, but obviously I was too optimistic!

The angel arc is finished and to bring him back in another role is really unnecessary and a bit sad really.

If it's something cool, like Jimmy the Vessel with some pivotal information, or the Leviathans posing as him like they did Sam and Dean, it would be a resurrection with a purpose to the overall plot of the season. If it turns out that the writers are just insulting the viewers by catering the smaller, yet more vocal section of the fandom by bring him back just because... Then it will really prove just how desperate and sad Sera Gamble and her crew are.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the premise of Sara Rue's new show, as it'll be forgotten fairly quickly.

Just look at SPACED. The original premise was Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson pretending to be a working couple to get a flat, but the moment they got in the door, it was pretty much forgotten until Marsha found out they weren't.

Nothing in this article for me! I must say, though, that Sara Rue's potential show sounds a lot like "Three's Company."

Not that I mind him returning but did anyone honestly not see that happening at some point this season, apparently the only one who ever dies on this show and stays dead is John Winchester - Now his return would be a surprise, And FYI this article says he may not be Castiel but the article on the right side of your screen (Link to different site) says Castiel will be back so take this with a grain of salt.

The only reason he hasn't returned yet is that he has become a movie actor, therefore too busy to come up and shoot a new episode.

I always thought Castiel was a popular character. I like him!

Am I ever going to see a truly awesome, amazing Super Bowl Halftime in my life, or are they impossible? Hiring dinosaurs doesn't work....hiring newer acts doesn't work.....what works then???

It sucks that Misha is no longer a main character.
Reply

If you check the opening credits for seasons five and six, he's listed as a main character.

He's given billing with Jared and Jensen but he's not a main character. The definition of main character is one who appears in all, if not the majority of episodes in season. He was in 13 in season five and 12 in season six, the two seasons he was billed as a featured regular. That's less than HALF of a season, where as Jared and Jensen are in all, if not the majority, of the episodes. Making them main characters and Misha a featured regular.

It sucks you think that Misha had a main character role. He was a featured regular. Not a main character. Sam and Dean are the main characters. Just sayin'.

Oh a lot more than that sucks about this show now.
