News Briefs: MTV Will Pay Tribute to Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch

R.I.P. ADAM YAUCH NEWS

... In the wake of the sad news that Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch died today, MTV will air a live tribute special titled Adam Yauch: Remembering a Beastie Boy at 8pm Eastern tonight (live-stream it/watch the archived video here). The special will feature past performances, thoughts from his friends, and music videos from throughout Yauch's career. Beastie Boys music videos will also air across all MTV networks. Look for a Sucker Free Countdown dedicated to MCA on MTV2 this Sunday. [TV Line]

BUSINESS TIME

... CBS is threatening legal action against ABC because the latter network greenlighted the series The Glass House, which is awfully similar to CBS's Big Brother. The two shows both feature contestants living in a house while viewers play voyeur, but ABC's has a large internet component, as fans can interact with the contestants online. If CBS wins this suit, expect every single network to sue every other network for everything ever. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Dish Network might pull AMC Network channels, including AMC, IFC, and Sundance Channel, from its lineup, claiming that the price of renewal is too high for their low viewership. AMC says Dish is just being mean over a separate legal matter involving the VOOM HD suite of channels. Look, both of you multi-million-dollar corporations, can't you just figure this out so Dish subscribers can watch Breaking Bad? [Deadline Hollywood]

... NBC has announced when it will air the final two episodes of Best Friends Forever, which was pulled from the network's schedule late last week. Episodes 5 and 6, the final two of the shortened season, will air June 1 at 8pm. After that, kiss it goodbye forever. [THR]

CASTING NEWS

... Cee Lo Green will guest-star on Parks and Recreation next week for the season finale. His appearance will be The Voice-related, as it looks like there might be a swivel chair and a red button involved in the Pawnee election race. [Huffington Post]

... Elsewhere in the world of NBC comedies, Margaret Cho will reprise her role as former North Korean maniac Kim Jong Il on 30 Rock. She'll be in the final two episodes of the season. [Laughspin]

... Personal favorite Judy Greer (Arrested Development) will drop by Royal Pains this season. She'll play matchmaker who gets heart help from Hank, and helps him navigate his romantic life. [EW]

... David Cronenberg and Jeff Fahey will guest-star in Syfy's pilot Rewind. Ummm... crrrr.... trying to think of something interesting to say about this one. Hey, what's that over there?! *runs away* [TV Line]

MCA's passing is so sad. I'm glad to hear MTV is bringing the love. Last night I listened to every single album in a shuffle, I was really hoping Hot Sauce Committe pt 2 would lead to another one - it felt like part of an upswing towards more ideas.

I love love love that CBS is taking ABC to task for trying to blatantly rip off Big Brother, and I don't even like Big Brother. But c'mon, it's largely the same production staff, identical idea, and it's not even on Fox!

NBC announced something nobody watched will air its final 2 episodes for the 6 housepets who were enthralled.

Margaret Cho as Kim Jong Il, those words alone still make me smile.

Judy Greer hasn't been on Royal Pains yet? It feels like she has, there's a lot of that type of guest star.

Where did Tim go, and why did he leave us with this mess on the table that is Jeff Fahey and David Cronenberg in a Syfy pilot?

Royal Pains is still on? That show is whack.

This new Glass House will be boring, with the viewers deciding who should go home. We all know the villains will all go first, leaving only boring middle-age men, who loves their daughters and cry everytime they're in a confessional, because their wife has to work two jobs. I mean, I would be happy to see them win money, but we all know it's going to be boring TV...

thanks so much for the MTV link. Those performances were awesome, especially that Yo! MTV Raps appearance! after seeing them do Ch-Check it Out I bought that album. Who knew they were still kickin' it in 2004? Not me apparently. I saw them at Lala in 1994 and they were AWESOME!
