News Briefs: Netflix's Arrested Development Will Premiere On...

BUSINESS TIME

... The long-awaited return of Arrested Development, courtesy of Netflix, is getting closer. And now that nebulous premiere date of "2013" is getting a little narrower. The Bluths will return in spring, according to a spokesperson for the company. There's also talk that the original 10-episode order could be expanded if creator Mitch Hurwitz has enough story for more episodes. [Huffington Post]

... Discovery Fit & Health has ordered a series called I Was Impaled. Starring your mom. Hee hee. [TV By the Numbers]

... Order up for Bob's Burgers! The fox 'toon is coming back for a 13-episode Season 3, but that might get supersized. Fox has ordered an additional six scripts of the series in preparation for a possible back nine pickup. [Deadline Hollywood]

... ABC Family has ordered a pair of pilots, and at least one of them sounds interesting. The Fosters is a one-hour drama produced by Jennifer Lopez and follows a mixed family with ethnic foster kids and plain old white biological kids. That's not the interesting one. The interesting one is Socio, about a 16-year-old sociopath who is the prime suspect when a classmate is murdered. [ABC Family via press release]

... Fox is developing a new single-camera comedy starring former teen pop stars Aly Michalka and AJ Michalka (Aly & AJ). The two sisters would play versions of themselves as they finally leave the nest and settle into their own apartment. Until mom moves in unexpectedly! Oh man, things are gonna get wild! [Deadline Hollywood]

... NBC continues to take old things and polish them up for new audiences and is developing Cyrano, based on the classic Cyrano de Bergerac. This one will be set in present day and center on an ugly campaign strategist that puts words in the mouth of a handsome Mayoral candidate. Things go great until they fall for the same woman, a journalist covering the political race. At this point every single upcoming NBC show will be [classic story] set in modern times. [Deadline Hollywood]

CASTING ROUNDUP

... CBS' hit The Big Bang Theory is doing the right thing and promoting Kevin Sussman, who plays Stuart the comic book shop guy, to series regular. Sussman is rich, beeeeeyotch! [TV Line]

... Maulik Pancholy has been freed fired from NBC's Whitney, but don't worry. He'll head back to 30 Rock and reprise his role as Jack's assistant Jonathan. From one final season of a show to another. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Falling Skies has already started production on Season 3, and its first major piece of casting is Robert Sean Leonard (House). He'll play a scientist that runs the power grid in New Charleston and makes friends with a bunch of rats underground. I'm not joking. Gloria Reuben (ER) will also guest star as a woman who helped lead the human resistance against the aliens in New Charleston. [Deadline Hollywood]

Socio could be the new Dexter maybe?

Falling Skies Season 3!!!!! I can't wait, glad it's returning, but wonder why V couldn't return as it was a little more entertaining in it's first two seasons and the third would have been out of this world!

Jennifer Lopez produced "South Beach Towing" so I hope her new show tanks. Also, who are Aly Michalka and AJ Michalka and should I care?

I know Aly Michalka and AJ Michalka only because of Cow Belles, a Disney Channel original movie...I know Cow Belles Because Jack Coleman played their father.

Holy crap, what the hell Fox? You have NOTHING in the chamber, why give Bob's Burgers a short order with an option? You already pulled the trigger on more Cleveland Show in advance TWICE and that show is limping along, but you can't see fit to give a fantastic show like Bob's Burgers a full season? Why do you have to be so FOX about it? Or should we go back to Napoleon Dynamite and Allen Gregory to remind you how awful you really are at these sorts of things?!? Just give Bob's Burgers a 4-season extension and accept the ratings you receive in return. God you suck at life, Fox.

Dude, they gave Bob's Burgers a full season, even if it isn't twenty-two episodes. You REALLY need to go a couple steps backwards.

Season 3 was given 13 production episodes earlier this year, and received 6 more scripts to be given a 19 episode order. Season 2 still has 13 more episodes to air, so that brings the total amount of episodes to 26 + a potential 6 episodes left, equaling nearly two full seasons. Bob's Burgers will have a fourth broadcast season. Also, who thumbsed you up? They probably aren't thinking too clearly either. Sorry to sound rude, but you need to do a bit of research before yelling at FOX for doing something good for once.

Spring for Arrested Development?

I came to read this prepared to do a sex wee of excitement.

Spring?

Oh COME ON!

For Bob's Burgers, it has thirteen more episodes of the second season that will air, and season three will also have thirteen episodes. We've got 26 confirmed episodes, and with the news of six more scripts is pretty good potential, so that could bring us 32 more episodes to go. If this happens, the show will have at least 54 episodes and a fourth broadcast season. This is great! :D

As for Arrested Development, I'm excited to see it on Netflix in the spring.

Fantastic news for Arrested Development! And I'm excited for Falling Skies now, I'd watch Robert Sean Leonard in almost anything:)

FTW: Being fired from Whitney! Congrats Maulik!

Stuart is "alright" but nothing too great. Likewise, the main cast is growing a bit too much. Amy, Bernedette, and now Stuart... too many people == too many episode-storylines == rushed individual storylines/jokes in each episode.

if you're saying Whitney's going to end this season does that mean you think Community will, too? noooooO!

JONATHAN YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Socio would sound more awesome to me if it wasn't on ABC. ABC + good premise = soapy.

I'm not sure how much I like the idea of more Stuart the comic book shop guy on TBBT (as I assume that's what will happen with him becoming a series regular). Plus, they're gonna have to end up killing a character off or something because they're adding new series regular characters every season.

Oh, and of course... YAY! ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT!

Anyone else see a similarity between Falling Skies and Walking Dead next seasons:

Both have enemies our heroes are trying to get a way from and end up in a protected compound/sanctuary governed by someone with authoritative tendencies? From what I know, Walking Dead is more serious about it, but still...

Anyone know if Terry O'Quinn is coming back to Falling Skies with him doing that 666 Park Avenue show?

Great news about Falling Skies! Not only it's been confirmed season 3 has begun production, but I also love Robert Sean Leonard's onscreen presence. It's great he's back quickly after House.

#1 Really glad I got Netlix. Trying.

Not watching a show called Socio on ABC Family. Showtime or HBO maybe.

I'd have to see who ends up running Cyrano. Really trying NBC. You make it very hard.

hooray for sussman! been enjoying him on weeds and always like him appearing on TBBT.

i wondered what happened to jonathan. on a related note; what happened to sanjay?

Why on earth did Maulik Pancholy even leave 30 Rock for that abomination of a show? Now I can't wait to see what inside joke they use to deal with his return.
Reply
Flag
Wow, I didn't realize "Johnathan" left 30 Rock. I like his animosity towards Liz and his stalker-ish man-crush on Jack.

"Socio" could be good if it's a bout a real sociopath, and not one of the losers on 4chan claiming to be a sociopath. The only problem is that a sociopath is not that sympathetic of character so she better be clever as hell, otherwise I don't see this having any longevity.

It's on ABC Family. How deep can it go? Pretty Little Liars isn't and it just...drags...on...and on...

I see Socio could be the same thing - A light teen show that just throws out red herrings going nowhere needing a scorecard to keep track of it all. Same could also be said for Lying Game.

Oh, man I tried watching Pretty Little Liars. There was a marathon on and I wanted to find out the secret they are protecting. But....just yuck....just yawn. Now, I flip past quickly whenever I see that coming on.

"not that sympathetic of a character" may be the understatement of the century.
