News Briefs: Pilot Casting Means Abby Elliott May Leave SNL


... Saturday Night Live cast member and spawn of the one of the funniest men ever Abby Elliott has landed the lead role in the Fox pilot Ben Fox Is My Manny. Elliott will play a single mom who gets help raising her kid from her slacker brother. If the pilot gets ordered to series, Elliott will likely leave her post at Saturday Night Live due to the conflict. ... Greg Grunberg (Heroes) has been cast in CBS's untitled comedy pilot from Greg Berlanti. The show follows a man and his female best friend, and the two are business partners. But when he realizes that she is "the one" for him, things get complicated and he has to break the news to her, all while she's engaged to one of his friends. Soooo... gender-reversed My Best Friend's Wedding? Grunberg will play the brother of the woman. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Mena Suvari (The Cape hee hee) and Kyle Howard (My Boys) will star in NBC's untitled comedy about a shy woman who gets dumped and plots revenge on her ex. Suvari and Howard will play co-workers of the woman. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Anything Michael Raymond-James gets cast in automatically gets bumped up on my list of things to watch, so it sounds like I'll be tuning in for NBC's mystery pilot Midnight Sun. The show follows a team that searches for a cult-like group that vanishes in the Arctic, and already stars Titus Welliver as the leader of the group. Raymond-James, who has appeared on Terriers, True Blood, and most recently The Walking Dead, will play a member of the search group. [Digital Spy]

... Scrubs' Judy Reyes and Without a Trace's Roselyn Sanchez round out the four maids at the forefront of Marc Cherry's ABC pilot Devious Maids. The primetime soap centers on Hispanic maids in Beverly Hills looking to make it as big as their clients. Reyes and Sanchez join Ana Ortiz and Dania Ramirez as the leads. ... The CW has made some casting noise by landing Prison Break's Robert Knepper and Friday Night Lights' Aimee Teegarden. Knepper will join Cult, about a television show that spawns copycat murders.
