News Briefs: Sarah Chalke Is Returning to ABC

SO MUCH CASTING NEWS YOU'LL PUKE

... Scrubs star Sarah Chalke is returning to ABC, if all goes well. Chalke has landed the lead role in the pilot How to Live with Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life, a comedy about a recently divorced mom (Chalke) who moves back in with her parents. Chalke was last seen in a regular role on the short-lived CBS comedy Mad Love. [EW]

... TV.com favorite and general all-around awesome guy Chi McBride (Pushing Daisies, Human Target) has been cast in the CBS pilot Golden Boy. The drama follows a young police officer who shoots up the ranks of the department. McBride will play the rising star's partner. Aww Chi, we want to see you in a comedy! [Deadline Hollywood]

... Aliens, you are TOTALLY F'd. Terry O'Quinn, best known as John Locke from that show you may have heard of called Lost, is joining TNT's sometimes decent Falling Skies. He'll guest-star in two episodes as a mentor to Tom (Noah Wyle), and turn into a plume of black smoke to kill all those skinny aliens. If we're lucky. [EW]

... Andre Braugher, an Emmy nominee for Men of a Certain Age, will headline a new drama pilot from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan. In Last Resort, Braugher plays the captain of a nuclear submarine that goes rogue and forms its own independent nation when it disobeys orders to fire nuclear warheads on American soil. This is the best-sounding pilot of the season. It's like Lord of the Flies but with nukes. [Deadline Hollywood]

... The Goonies star Sean Astin will guest-star on NCIS as a "psychological operations investigator," whatever that is. The episode, scheduled to air in late March, will also feature Jamie Lee Curtis. [EW]

... Everyone loves Joanna Garcia! She's signed on as the female lead in an untitled CBS comedy from Greg Berlanti. In the pilot, a man has a health scare and realizes his best female friend Wendy (Garcia) is "the one." Well, that sounds hilarious! [Deadline Hollywood]

... Starz's Boss has added two to its cast. Sanaa Lathan (The Cleveland Show) is joining the mayor's office as Tom Kane's new chief of staff. Jonathan Groff (Glee's Jesse St. James) will play Kane's new go-to man for advice now that Ezra is out of the picture. [Deadline Hollywood]

... [Slight spoiler alert!] Sendhil Ramamurthy, who once turned into a giant bug in Heroes, is causing jealousy at The Office. He'll guest-star on the NBC comedy as a new love interest for Kelly after she and Ryan break up. [TV Guide]

... Boardwalk Empire has seen the last of Lucy Danziger, as the HBO drama has opted not to pick up naughty actress Paz de la Huerta's contract (she started the series playing Nucky Thompson's weirdo mistress). Recently, de la Huerta has made lots of off-screen headlines for punching people at nighttime hot spots and getting naked. That deserves a raise, not a firing, if you ask me! [TV Line]

SOMETHING OTHER THAN CASTING NEWS

... TLC has ordered a docu-drama called Southie Pride, which follows five women from South Boston as they complain about Paul Pierce's jump shot and New York. [TLC, via press release]

LOL. When I read "shoots up the ranks of the department," my first thought was that he opened fire in the precinct.

Charlie Sheen threatened a porn star with a knife, etc. and didn't get fired until he insulted Chuck Lorre. That Paz de la Huerta got a shitty deal.

haha I just saw that you put The Goonies in front of Sean Astin instead of the Lord of the Rings movies. that can be construed as an insult or serious props. I'll go with the latter.

Lots of awesome news! One question though; if Sendhil Ramamurthy is going to be on The Office, what will happen to his role as Jai on Covert Affairs?

His role on The Office is described as a guest-star, so I'm guessing he'll only be on for 1 episode... a small recurring role max.

Last Resort sounded really cool already: casting Braugher makes it seem cooler.

I like Sarah Chalke; I don't like the premise of this new pilot.

Chi McBride is awesome; the show doesn't sound as cool. Also, if his partner keeps rising in ranks, how long do they plan on having McBride his partner? After a few ranks, the dude should be getting a new parter.

I really like Boss. I have no idea who the two new cast members are.

LAST RESORT sounds f**** amazing, since the shield RYAN is one of my all time TV heroes.

I demand the pilot to air NOW

Oh Chi McBride, no matter what shows you're on and what movies you star in, you will always be Emerson Cod to me.

and I thought How I Met Your Mother was a long title for a show... HTLWYPFTROYL nope still too long. They need to fix that

I agree it's far too long. How about: With Parents, For Life!

Love me some Sarah Chalke on Scrubs, not as much on HIMYM, and I was actually a pretty big fan of Mad Love.

Me too, it was funny and cute. Mostly because of the best friend(s). I love Judy Greer.

I love Ellen Degeneres and I love the Ellen Degeneres Show, best comedy on t.v.! She is amazing and has the most kindest heart I have ever seen!!! I would love Ellen to come to see me and my momma, we both are seriously ill, Ellen would really brighten up my day!!!

I have been telling her about my special gift of seeing these beautiful characters and drawling them, it is amazing!!!! I wrote a book "ZILLION GOES TO EARTH", working on one "SKEETER GOES TO HOLLYWOOD", and it is so fun!!!! Just been diagnosed with cancer and I just want Ellen to see what I have done and how it would help so many!!!!

I know she would be so proud of me!!! Especially from coming out of a coma in the 80's not being able to walk, getting through college, the being bless with this GIFT I have developed because of all of them, Ellen, Oprah, the Today Show, Hoda and Kathy Lee, Regis and Kelly, this OL' House, Nate, and several others!!! I just cannot believe it!!!!

I want others to see what they can do with their own will!!!! Where it can take them!!!!

Regards

Kimberly

I loved watching Joanna Garcia in "Better with You." Now that series should have been picked up for a season two this year. Even if it didn't pull in the ratings, it would have been far superior in quality than "Man Up!" or "Work It."

Sarah Chalke is awesome, She was great in HIMYM and in the very short lived Mad Love. However, I hope it is a tuesday comedy show, it doesn't sound like it would fit in on wednesday.

Golden Boy doesn't sound very good. Gosh I wish they could just bring back Human Target.

The Shawn Ryan show sounds a lot like Crimson Tide mixed with I don't know what. Not sure it sounds good though. I also miss The Chicago Code

And Samwise is going to be on NCIS. Sorry I just can't see Sean Astin not being tubby and barefoot wandering around Mordoor (SP?)

As much as I like Joanna Garcia that just doesn't sound original in any way shape or form. If it gets picked up I say 2 episodes tops. In will be largely based on who the male lead is.

And thank goodness they got rid of Paz De La Huerta, she isn't attractive(well maybe if you squint and have drank the whole bottle of tequila) and I am not sure she is playing a drunken dumbarse as much as she is just a drunken dumbarse. But she was a waste of screen time either way.
