News Briefs: Science Announces a Firefly Reunion Special


... And we thought we were excited for Comic-Con's Firefly 10-year anniversary panel. The Science channel has announced that the panel is just the beginning. On November 11, the network will air Browncoats Unite, an hour-long special starring Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau, and more to address the phenomenon that was Firefly—and that's after the network runs a full-on marathon of the series! ... Starz's Spartacus producers are working on two new original series. The first, Incursion, is a sci-fi action thriller about a team of soldiers who are engaged in a dark, gritty battle with an alien race. Each season will take place on a new, exotic planet. How's that for an enticing gimmick? The second, Vlad Dracula, is a retelling of the classic Dracula story that will attempt to blend the fictional tale with historical facts about the 15th-century Prince of Wallachia. ... truTV has decided to shine the green light on a new series starring Shaquille O'Neal. It's currently titled Upload with Shaquille O'Neal, and the network has ordered 10 episodes. The series is about Shaq and his comedian buddies (Gary Owen and Godfrey) as they scour the internet looking for hilarious videos to discuss. Topical. [via press release from truTV]

...The Legend of Korra will see the light of a second season, says Nickelodeon. The network has officially picked up the animated series for a second round after phenomenal ratings in Season 1. There will be 26 episodes, which will reportedly be broken into two 13-episode segments. You go, Korra! [EW]

...NBC is shacking up with Facebook to promote the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The network will be decking out its NBC Olympics Facebook page to display timely news, polls, trivia, photo galleries, and more. ... Mindy Kaling's upcoming new Fox comedy, The Mindy Project has a couple of new names to add to its cast list. Up first, Gossip Girl's Amanda Setton, who will play an obstinate office manager from Jersey. Glee's Stephen Tobolowsky will play the director of Mindy's practice, Dr. Marc Shulman. And finally, MADtv's Ike Barinholtz has nabbed the recurring role of Morgan Tookers, a male nurse who also happens to be an ex-con. Sounds like a blast already! [EW]

... Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette, and Sean Murray will all return for NCIS's tenth season. All three actors' contracts were up at the end of Season 9, and while we weren't necessarily expecting them to walk, we're glad to hear the family is still intact. [Deadline Hollywood]
