News Briefs: Smallville, 10 Things..., and My Boys

... ABC Family giveth, and ABC Family taketh away. 10 Things I Hate About You has been renewed for another 10 episodes. Ruby and the Rockits has been canceled. [Variety]

... The Creative Arts Emmys, aka the ones that are deemed too boring for the gala telecast, were handed out on Saturday. HBO's Generation Kill and Grey Gardens won three each, and Tina Fey won for her portrayal of Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. It seems like it is becoming impossible for the Emmys to hold a function without giving Tina Fey an award. We're fine with this. The full list of winners is here. [NYT]

... Eric McCormack will play the lead in a Lifetime movie about con artist Clark Rockefeller. And then he will play the lead in an untitled sitcom about "a recent widower surrounded by an eccentric cast of family and friends who tries to put his life back together." McCormack is not bothered by your silly record unemployment rate, America. [THR]

... Julian Sands will play superdad Jor-El on at least one episode of Smallville. Expect controversy to surround Smallville's refusal to cast a real Kryptonian in the part. [Ausiello]

... TBS's My Boys will return for a fourth season. The Cubs will stink in this one too. [Variety]
