News Briefs: So Many Premiere Dates, for A&E, TBS, TNT, Starz, and More

SO MANY PREMIERE DATES YOU'LL POOP YOUR PANTS

... TNT has switched up some of its summer premieres dates, so listen up! Franklin & Bash (yes!) will now kick off its third season on June 19; it was previously scheduled to start on July 24. If this news ruins your summer vacation, TNT will refund your money. The fourth season of Rizzoli & Isles will begin June 25, a week later than before. Ditto for the second season of Perception, which will debut an hour after Rizzoli & Isles returns. And finally, reality show Cold Justice will now premiere on September 3. [TNT via press release]

... Starz's Magic City has a Season 2 premiere date: Friday, June 14 at 9pm. In related news, this show still exists! [Starz via press release]

... A&E has put some dates on the second season of Longmire and the fourth season of The Glades. The Western and the Florida-set crime drama will both return May 27, with The Glades kicking things off at 9pm and Longmire following at 10pm. [A&E via press release]

... TLC's Long Island Medium will be back for Season 4 on May 12 at 9pm. No need to tell her, she already knew! [TLC via press release]

... Lifetime's Devious Maids, from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, finally has a premiere date: Sunday June 23 at 10pm. The soapy drama centers on Latina maids in Beverly Hills who aspire for more while they dust the cubbyholes of the rich and famous. Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, and Judy Reyes star in the series, which was once in development at ABC. [Lifetime via press release]

... TBS wants you to know that the second season of Sullivan & Son premieres Thursday, June 13. But don't feel like you have to watch it just because TBS went out of its way to make sure you knew it was on. [TBS via press release]

CASTING NEWS

... Yvonne Strahovski is returning to Dexter in Season 8, reprising her role as Hannah McKay. We don't know the magnitude of her return or how many episodes she'll be in, but we do know that it's inappropriate to lick the television when she's on the screen at a Best Buy (source: personal experience). [EW

BUSINESS TIME

... Following up on its two inexplicably huge miniseries Hatfields & McCoys and The Bible, History is developing a new mini based on the life of Harry Houdini, the famous late-1800s/early-1900s magician who makes Criss Angel look like a pussy. Academy Award-winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist, Stella Artois ads) is attached to star as Magic Harry. [EW]

... ReelzChannel has ordered a reality show following the descendants of old-time gangster Al Capone, and it's called The Capones. Well this should get ReelzChannel on the map! [Multichannel]

... The Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter campaign has passed $5 million with two days left to go. So all of you who pledged $500 when you were drunk are in for a shock on Friday! But hey, at least you'll have a cool voice-\mail message from Kristen Bell. [Kickstarter]

... When I think Black Sabbath, I immediately think "This would sound SO cool on CSI." Well, me, get excited because Ozzy and the boys are dropping by the CBS procedural for a guest spot to debut their new single. Characters D.B. Russell (Ted Danson) and Conrad Ecklie (Marc Vann) will attend a Black Sabbath concert, and the old rockers will be there moaning out their new tune. [CBS via press release]

... NBC has renewed Carson Daly's Last Call with Carson Daly for a thirteenth season, probably as a way to tell Daly, "Don't even think we're considering you as an option to take over for Jimmy Fallon when he leaves for The Tonight Show." [NBC via press release]

... The good folks at IFC have ordered a trio of pilots! Timms Industrial Piping is a stop-motion animated parody of 1980s primetime soaps featuring baby dolls as the characters that find their lives changed when the CEO of a town's industrial piping center dies in a plane crash. Sounds pretty straightforward! Maria Bamford, Elizabeth Banks, Nick Kroll, and Giancarlo Esposito are all part of the voice cast. Garfunkel & Oates features the titular folk-singin' comedy duo going through heightened versions of their lives. International Plan follows two guys who travel the globe looking for love, and focuses on the friendship they forge during their intercontinental love hunts. IFC also is looking at several scripts, including Cult Following, about two guys (UCB co-founder Matt Besser and The Mighty Boosh's Rich Fulcher) who work in a health-food store and accidentally become cult leaders. Besser and Fulcher in the same show? YES AND PLEASE. [IFC via press release]

Apart from Dexter, I can't say any of these summer shows fill me with excitement... though it beats the scary CW programming... So yeah, reruns sound like a better option...

The Glades is just all around good tv. It does not try to be anything it is not, and I enjoy the cast. Longmire is defintely watchable but it just seems to be missing something to push it over the edge. I just dont care about the town or its people in the way I grew interested in Banshee or Harlan though the shows production value is great.

The Houdini mini-series sounds like a great idea, and I've liked Adrien Brody in most things I've seen him in the past so I'm officially excited.

I only care for Franklin & Bash, Rizzoli & Isles, and The Glades out of all those premieres lol

I seriously considered the $100 pledge for Veronica Mars on kickstarter because it was the cheapest one that mentioned a Blu-ray, but I wouldn't want to pledge it and then WB not make Blu-ray for it, and if they did it'd be in stores anyway.. also, they better make a Blu-ray or I won't buy it. sadface.

I'm somewhat fond of Carson Daly because of all the TRL years when I was growing up but I never cared for his talk show, the original format where he tried telling jokes was horrible, now it's better because it's just a couple interviews and then some music which is what he's best known for anyway. I don't see how he or anybody else would assume he'd take over for Jimmy Fallon either.

The IFC projects sound good to me. The male members (no pun intended) of the UCB are never on TV enough for me.

This will probably be the final season for Magic City. Aside from Spartacus, dramas never last more than two seasons on Starz. It feels like nobody is watching anyway.

ABC passed on it, but Devious Maids couldn't stay dead, huh? Just what we need -- a Latino version of Desperate Housewives. Thanks, television!

the only other starz dama I'm aware of is Boss which I didn't watch because ...kelsey grammer and fake boobs for sex appeal work in an office or something? no thanks. Magic City on the other hand is legitimate and beats the shit out of post andy whitfield and john hannah spartacus.

Boss was actually powerful and critically acclaimed but didn't quite catch on with viewers, I guess. "Fake boobs for sex appeal"... isn't that every show on premium cable?

fortunately a lot of shows have cast women unaltered ..especially in period pieces like the early seasons of spartacus. there is one exception I can think of coincidentally enough though and that's magic city. the love interest of head mob dude who also slept with the one son. that's of the shows I watch anyway though, boardwalk empire, game of thrones californication and house of lies probably go both ways.

I don't know about you, but I've gotten sick of all the sex scenes on these shows. They're basically "time fillers" that detract from the ongoing stories. Just because cable has the freedom to do whatever they want doesn't mean it's necessary to shove naked women in our face every episode.

Damn, for a second there I thought Garfunkel & Oates were the genuine article. It would take nothing less for the show to be watchable.

Garfunkel and Oates sounds like Flight of the Conchords but I don't care because I love them both <3

I must be an unintentional psychic. I just started watching The Glades from the beginning today (on Amazon Instant Video on Roku) just finished watching "Lost and Found" (Season two episode three). Now if only I could use my amazing powers to win Powerball or help the police solve crime.

Just because NBC renews a show doesn't mean it will stay in that timeslot next year. It's possible that they could just decide to move it to 12:35am and either get rid of Late Night or just change the name of Last Call to Late Night. An after 1:30am late night show just isn't necessary anymore. There's already plenty of late night talk shows about and the network can get more money from infomercials.

Kudos on the "Casting News" so v. clever and with a bonus creepy Duchovny to boot! It's like X-mas around here.

Pants: not pooped. I want a refund. But I'll take Cold Justice being pushed back, that's fine too, nobody is going to enjoy that if it's not aired on MSNBC during long weekends.

Oh good, Longmire can return to solving more crimes in a season than the actual state saw in 2 years.

What... what is "Sullivan & Son"? TBS really needs to work on branding better.

Tim, we all make Criss Angel look like a pussy. Go watch the Criss Angel magic set infomercial and tell me I'm wrong, he's a huge sellout pussy.

What... what is "ReelzChannel"? They really need to work on branding better.

CSI gets all the cool music that your grandparents used to listen to!

Carson Daily's show is still on? That explains why he keeps showing up on their New Years shows!

I'm not in denial, a ton of my music is Ozzy and Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith, I just don't kid myself that my parents didn't listen to them first. :-P

your granny rocks but I didn't listen to the metallica "albums" she did (Kill em All was my favorite)...either you have a young grandmother or she is young at heart~if everyone had kids at age 20, assuming you are biologically around 20 (older mentally), then she would be 60 which is older then I expect for a Metallica fan!

My grandparents either died before I was born or died when I was a child---I remember one was a fan of polka music:o

I'm not a big fan of football (US football) but turn off the tv sound and play Seek and Destroy when they are actually playing football and it mixes well (at least it did when I was in high school).

My grandma was 80 when she passed away in '11, she was listening in her late 60s and early 70s.

Kill 'Em All is my favorite album too, going to the Black album which I liked when it came out but now sounds horribly overproduced, Death Magnetic is good though.

That's too bad about your grandparents, knowing them was a big part of my life.

That's an awesome idea, watching Football with Metallica. I dunno if I could take it though, my head might explode from the awesome.

you have cooler parents! My mom listened to ABBA and John Denver...I would of preferred her to be a Beatles fan. At least my older brothers "taught me" about rock n roll

If she had been a Beatles fan, you might not enjoy them now. I can't listen to the Beatles because of how much my dad pushed that music at me as a kid.

My grandma liked the Metallica albums that sucked, Reload and St Anger and such. :p

I believe Longmire shoots in New Mexico anyway, so with all the crimes in that state, it makes up for it.

So what you're saying is that Longmire ultimately is going to have to cross over with Breaking Bad.

Bryan Cranston had the finale script stolen while on Sandia Peak in Albuquerque. They caught the guy, but otherwise could have been a possible case for Longmire.

Ozzy was already on CSI:NY. Well, his music was, anyway.
