MEDIUM-SIZED NEWS
... Fox's Terra Nova will go out the same way it came in: with a two-hour episode. The dino drama's 13-episode first season will conclude on December 19, but the real question is, will it live to see a second season? Given the show's high price tag and lower-than-expected ratings, I'm not so sure. Terra Nova certainly isn't going to pick up many new viewers, but if it can rule overseas (which is a good bet) it might survive. Ultimately, though, Terra Nova looks like a bust, and the ratings will show that in the coming weeks. [EW]
... Good news for Harry's Law's fan (har): NBC has ordered six more scripts for the program, which only has a 13-episode order so far. Script orders are a great sign that a network is seriously considering adding more episodes. [Deadline Hollywood]
... Courteney Cox and David Arquette are getting back together! Well, to work on a show. The duo is producing Ten Years for NBC, the network that will buy anything these days as it tries to get back on top. The comedy follows a group of friends and their ups and downs over a decade. [Deadline Hollywood]
... Jonah Hill must be stopped! He's sold a comedy to Fox that doesn't have a concept or a format beyond "it will star comedian Hannibal Buress." Yes, this is how Hollywood works. One famous guy in Hollywood tells a studio he'll come up with something, and the studio pays him. [Deadline Hollywood]
... ABC's midseason comedy Apartment 23 was originally titled Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23, but then ABC got scared and shortened it. Spineless! Now ABC is changing its mind and reinstating the original name, sort of. Look forward to Don't Trust the B––– in Apartment 23. What's the B stand for? Baboon? Border Collie? Bananas? What can't I trust, ABC, WHAT CAN'T I TRUST? [EW]
... Syfy has announced a return date for Being Human: Monday, January 16. That same night, the network will also debut new series Lost Girl, about a succubus that feeds off sexual energy. Given the many synonyms for "handsome" and "sexy" that the network used in its description for the show, I think I'll pass. [Syfy via press release]
CASTING NEWS
... And now finally, some interesting news! Justified has cast its bad guys for Season 3: Neal McDonough and Mykelti Williamson, both of whom starred in Boomtown. McDonough will play a Detroit mobster and Williamson will play a man who lives in a small black community. Also news: Jeremy Davies will return. [EW]
... Rachael Harris will guest-star on Fox's New Girl as a quirky vice-principal who loans Jess (Zooey Deschanel) a school bus for Schmidt's birthday party. [EW]
... Michael Douglas will play famously flamboyant pianist Liberace in an HBO biopic. Matt Damon will also star, and the super-awesome Steven Soderbergh will direct. [NY Times]
... Former supermodel Cheryl Tieg and race-car driver Mario Andretti have signed up for the next round of Celebrity Apprentice, in case anyone out there cares. [EW]

Well in 6 months, aSoIaF is coming back!
SyFy debuting Lost Girl? Series rebooting? I guess tv.com wanted to say debuting 3rd season? Anyway for me british Being Human is much better.
Terra Nova should end. It's a series too expensive for presenting two almost crap episodes like last two. Writers are doing it wrong. Instead of use Sixers/Militar Conspiracy etc plot as bonus plot scenes for dino rescue missions that should be main story skeleton. They are slowing down too much the discovering of that mysteries. It's a pity. Series could give many material around key plot to not need to fill it with sucessive rescue missions. Investigating and reveling of secrets, confrontation with power, rebellion and escape, going sixer, fighting terra nova army, unmask the government in Earth... Lots of gold stuff, no need to keep things so slow...moreless
Ironically tv.com pegged this one as the best new series that came out this year as seen in their top 10. I personally had my money on other shows. After terra nova explained what looked like their ongoing plot in the first episode it isn't surprising that it failed. The writing was just not up to par. Are we surprised, not so much. My suggestion is to turn to the CW as it seems to have a better hit with the "new series". My bet is also that house isn't going to do as well this season either. Also many of the shows based upon legal/police/cime dramas are going to also have a problem because there are so many on the market that a new one just might not shine through what is already enjoyed. Ringer I believe will do well because Sarah Michelle Gellar has a cult following like many of Whedon's work and will likely stick around for another season at leastmoreless
Terra Nova had all the big pre-season excitement, pretty decent CGI, but watching it was as lame as SGU. I can't say whether most the actors on the show are boring, or if it's the writers fault. The ONLY thing exciting on Terra Nova is Stephen Lang. Oh and I'll admit to being intrigued about the Six'ers backstory, but I'm betting I'd be disappointed with another boring story.
I loved Harry's Law last season! Although it was yet another attorney drama with a twist, the twist is the main character is a tired, bitter old lady. I enjoyed Harry going against Tommy (emulating Denny Crane), but this season is almost an entirely new show. Too much Tommy is getting on my nerves, and the guy from Boston Legal and Human Target to pretty much play his same character from Boston Legal again, WTH? I do like the new dark-headed lady, and Charlene as Hoseanna was entertaining for a few shows (will they bring her into Harry's practice as well?) I still enjoy it, but not nearly as much as last season.
New Girl, blech, but I can't stand Zoey - she's played the exact same desperately-quirky character in everything I've had the misfortune to see her in.
I enjoy Justified enough to continue watching it. And Micheal Douglas as Liberace, seriously? WTH?moreless
Really like Lost Girl, but not really a new show.
New Girl is not that funny, don't get the whole hype.
Glad Harry's Law is getting more episodes.
Looking forward to the new season of Justified.
Hmmm... Why is Terra Nova even on Locel Channel Network anyway? This early end date feels like any other program, boardcast on DirecTv have the total number of 13 Episodes. Please... Move Terra Nova off Fox on to TnT Channel or SyFy Channel. It doesn't feel right having 13 episodes program on Locel Channel Network at all. When the else of the programming runs to 22 episodes whole year up to May. Oh, Man! I like Terra Nova quite alot here. I don't want see it go into cancellation because of the Fox Network Channel, not giving it a fair chance. Please make a smart move... And put Terra Nova on SyFy or TnT for the next Season. It's really not a Locel Channel Network program to be boardcast on. When i watch Terra Nova. It's like i am watching a SyFy channel program or DirecTv Programming with that total number of 13 Episodes. It's good enough you have Fringe being a local channel network program on Fox. But,Terra Nova isn't like the way that Fringe is put on the network really.moreless
lol Tim..Lost Girl is a Canadian sci-fi fantasy procedural. It isn't great at all haha, but I would rank it higher than Terra Nova. You can find the first season and half of the second season on the interwebs if you want to take it for a test ride before syfy gets it.
I love that screen capture Tim! It sticks out in my head as a metaphor for the show. Josh take s a pathetic swing at a mini dino bird, the same way the show makes a weak attempt at being sci-fi. Hiyo!
big fan of the show. season 2... yes please
regardless the review, i think it's a good show. hope it survives.
I like terra nova , whats wrong with it?
2 crazy girls in one show? The New Girl really is not funny and Z is not that quirky.
What is all the hype about this show? The stories are really not that clever ot even good!
Lost Girl is great. Ksenia Solo alone is worth the show. You should totally check it out.
Yeah Mr.Surrete Lost Girl is a Canadian series that's currently in its second season, that's why you never heard of it.
Hopefully for terra it's a season finale. All that money doesn't need to be wasted in something so subpar.
worried about terranova, not half bad, and its ratings were completely thrown off because of Fox's overrun of the baseball game on last monday night, that might be the death of it if this happens again.
It appears as though that happened again. What the hell??? Nobody wants baseball on Fox!! Move it to ESPN or something. Terra Nova was scheduled to show at 8pm tonight and MLB is showing. It's stupid, Terra Nova is awesome.
"Terra Nova" is a flaming pile of crap. "Primeval" is sooo much more fun and such a better show even with its constantly evolving cast changes. There are more dinosaurs and that show probably cost 1/4 of what "Primeval" costs. Plus, as one commentator already mentioned, it has the lovely Hannah Spearitt. Why does Jason O'Mara suck so bad on this show, loved him in "Life on Mars"? Since the family is composed like the Simpsons, it would have much more fun just to make the dad a bumbling fun loving idiot.
Lost Girl is a Canadian show and it's on season 2 right now. It is a very good show - action, special effects and hot sexy guys in it. It's worth watching.
Good news about Harry's Law - another good show. I like Terra Nova - so hopefully it will get renewed - they just need to decide if it's going to be family friendly or sci-fi (they should go the sci-fi route - they'd get more people watching).
I like having these News Briefs articles, but I wish 'the writer' would provide more news than snark when writing them. You're really sounding like "the B in Apartment 23" and it's becoming a turn off for this site.
I hope Terra Nova suvives. I think it's a good show.
I couldn't even make it through the 2 hour episode of Terra Nova. It was just boring and predictable after half an hour. I'm not surpised that it probably won't make it. The plot of Apartment 23 sounds just fine but I don't think they should change the title again. The Bitch or the B---- even seems unnecessary and inappropriate.
Don't trust the GDB in apartment 23?
I don't understand why they pushed Apartment 23 (or whatever they want to call it) to midseason. It's one of the few promising prospects in a sea of terrible new comedies. As for Terra Nova, nothing about its quality or lack thereof is completely set in stone. And there are still dinosaurs.
Why does there have to be another season of Celebrity Apprentice?
Yeah Lost Girl isn't exactly new...well it isn't. Just for American audiences. Don't knock something you havent seen! (especially since Canada has so few productions).
Here's hoping that both Terra Nova and Harry's Law get more than just the 13 episodes ordered this year!
Terra Nova's episode order was pretty much set in stone from the beginning due to cost. The question is if it will get another season.
So.....Is terra Nova don't show any Dinosaur eating humans till dec...
yeah i wouldn't care if they come back
It appears that Terra Nova will last until it's 13th episode but I don't see a future for it after that, especially since the season will only be 13 episodes long. It dropped about 13% from last week but it still got a 2.6 in the 18-49 age range. Even if it drops 10% per episode it should end at least at a 1.0 so I think they'll let it run.
Ten Years sounds a lot like the short lived My Generation from last season
being human cant wait.the only shows i watch on syfy in being human and alphas:)and they take too long of breaks it gets on my nerves but im glad being human back for season 2:)
I love Lost Girl. <3 As some said before, don't knock it until you've watched it.
Dope Being Human! Can't wait.
I dont think Terra Nova can survive overseas, its really bad! I stopped watching and I download the eps, I wouldnt endure watching it on my local tv with ad breaks and all that...
Lost Girl is actually really good. It is a Canadian series that rocks, there are some special effects but the series is more about the characters whom are really well developed.
Terra Nova is the McDonalds of TV ..... cardboard cut-outs and loads of cheese.
Nothing about the show is believable, the weapons, the vehicles ...... the mass of aimless people who are supposed to have been 'specially picked' but end up wandering in the background selling tat in a marketplace ...... teenagers who would rather hug than sneak off to have 'ahem .... it away' ....... the entire cast are simply not believable ...... and as been stated below ........ the scripts !!! ........ appaling.
Looking forward to Justified, season 3 though ........ gotta love Dewey Crowe
Don't knock Lost Girl until you've seen it. We've had it in Canada for a full season and are currently onto the second. Great story and great characters like most Canadian shows. Give it a try Tim.
"That same night, the network will also debut new series Lost Girl, about a succubus that feeds off sexual energy."
This show is 2 seasons deep from Showdase Canada(and a personal guilty pleasure!!). Expand your horizon oh keeper of the pen!!!
yes, I agree...definitely a guilty pleasure. and I am Lost Girl's unofficial lawyer.
showCase not showDase. Sorry finger hiccups!!
I like Terra Nova:(
Me too. I don't get why people hate it so passionately. I think it's entertaining. Not spectacular but not unwatchable.
The use of the word hate is a little strong. The only TV I hate is "reality". But I do think Terra Nove is incredibly poor. I've seen TV shows with a fraction of the budget with great writing, great acting from unknown actors picked by people who know how to spot talent and far better plot and character development.
Good news about Being Human. is Lost Girl on SyFy a remake of the Canadian series or is it just a re-air?
Lost Girl will be a re-air (not sure if it will be edited for censorship...) And I strongly recommend checking it out! There's a reason why everyone lurves it, eh!
I think they are airing season 1 of the existing show....it's currently a few episodes into season 2 now.
