News Briefs: The CW Announces Its Midseason Schedule, Including One Tree Hill's Return


... You've been waiting for The CW to tell you when The Vampire Diaries is coming back after its winter hiatus so you can plan your holiday travels. Well, now you can book that Amtrak ticket or reserve that horse-drawn carriage for January 5, because The CW has announced its midseason schedule! Highlights include The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle returning on January 5, One Tree Hill kicking off its final season on January 11, and new show Remodeled debuting on January 18. ... Mary Steenburgen will guest-star on 30 Rock as the excitable mother of fellow guest-star Elizabeth Banks' character, Avery. NBC has yet to schedule 30 Rock's return, but the show is expected to come back sometime in the midseason. [EW]

... Suburgatory has promoted Ana Gasteyer to series regular, because she's perfect on the show. Gasteyer plays George and Tessa's nosy, well-intentioned neighbor, Sheila. [EW]

... True Blood is adding another sexy Northman. The vampire drama—well, let's call it a soap—has cast Nora, Eric's sister. British actress Lucy Griffiths, who you may know as Maid Marian from the BBC's Robin Hood, has nabbed the role and will be a regular next season. [Deadline Hollywood]
