News Briefs: The End of Kate Plus 8, Ugly Betty, and David Letterman's Late Show Confession

... On his show last night, David Letterman told his audience that a man was threatening to reveal that the host has had sexual relationships with women on the Late Show staff, unless Letterman paid him $2 million. The blackmailer -- who police have identified as Emmy-winning producer Robert Halderman -- was arrested yesterday after Letterman contacted the Manhattan DA and they set up a sting operation. Here is a video of Letterman's revelation. [Variety]

... Jon Gosselin sent the producers of Kate Plus 8 a cease and desist letter, forcing them to shut down production. WOW. Jon Gosselin is now an American hero. [Variety]

... NBC has scaled back its order for midseason drama Day One. Originally slated for a 13-episode season about life after an apocalyptic meteor shower, Day One will now air as a miniseries after the Winter Olympics. Per The Live Feed, "After examining the promo budget associated with launching a 13-episode midseason series, NBC executives opted to run the drama as a miniseries, with creator Jesse Alexander said to be on board with the decision." Everyone at NBC is extraordinarily lazy. [The Live Feed]

... The bidding war for J.J. Abrams' husband-and-wife-who-are-spies show has ended. NBC won, so expect everyone involved to get bored with the project and abandon production somewhere around episode 4. [Variety]

... Michael Ealy will play a recurring villain on FlashForward (which is getting goooood.). Josh Lawson is replacing Eric Christian Olsen on Romantically Challenged, a midseason ABC drama. [THR]

...Model Christie Brinkley and singer Shakira will guest star on Ugly Betty this season! They'll be appearing in a special Bahamas episode of the show. [SeattlePI]

Jon and Kate need to GO AWAY...and get their priorities straight, and TLC needs to take a long, hard look at it's business practices, at least as it relates to this show (and Toddlers and Tiaras), which make them nothing better than pimps.
