On his show last night, David Letterman told his audience that a man was threatening to reveal that the host has had sexual relationships with women on the Late Show staff, unless Letterman paid him $2 million. The blackmailer -- who police have identified as Emmy-winning producer Robert Halderman -- was arrested yesterday after Letterman contacted the Manhattan DA and they set up a sting operation. ... NBC has scaled back its order for midseason drama Day One. Originally slated for a 13-episode season about life after an apocalyptic meteor shower, Day One will now air as a miniseries after the Winter Olympics. Per The Live Feed, "After examining the promo budget associated with launching a 13-episode midseason series, NBC executives opted to run the drama as a miniseries, with creator Jesse Alexander said to be on board with the decision." ... The bidding war for J.J. Abrams' husband-and-wife-who-are-spies show has ended. NBC won, so expect everyone involved to get bored with the project and abandon production somewhere around episode 4. [Variety]
