News Briefs: The Good Wife Promotes Matthew Goode to Series Regular

WHERE THERE'S NO WILL, THERE'S A MATTHEW

... Matthew Goode, (Leap Year) who plays The Good Wife's Finn Polmar, a new prosecutor in the State's Attorney office, has been upped to a series regular for the rest of Season 5 following Sunday's devastating and traumatic SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER OMG THERE'S A SPOILER STOP READING death of Josh Charles' Will Gardner. According to an interview that series creators Robert and Michelle King did with TVLine, Goode's character was created specifically to ensure the series would still have a good balance of estrogen and testosterone going forward. 'Cause you know how it is when you get too many women in a room, am I right? I don't know what I'm talking about. Anyway, expect to see Finn caught in the middle of the drama as the State's Attorney's office searches for a scapegoat. There's no word yet on Goode's status for Season 6. [TV Guide]

BUSINESS TIME

... SundanceTV has announced a slight change of schedule for Season 2 of The Writers' Room, the series in which Community's Jim Rash sits down with various TV writers to discuss their shows. Originally slated to premiere April 14, Season 2 will now bow on Friday, April 18 at 9pm. Here's the show's full schedule:

– Friday, April 18 at 9pm: Scandal

– Friday, April 25 at 9pm: The Walking Dead, Superman, and Other Comic Book Adaptations

– Friday, May 2 at 9pm: House of Cards

– Friday, May 9 at 9pm: Sons of Anarchy

– Friday, May 16 at 9pm: The Good Wife

– Friday, May 23 at 9pm: Pretty Little Liars

... Indie-rock band Yo La Tengo is headed to Pawnee to partake in Leslie's Unity Concert, which will be the focus of the Season 6 finale. They'll play a Night Ranger cover band known as Bobby Knight Ranger, and yes, they'll be playing "Sister Christian." [Rolling Stone]

... NBC's perennially underrated bubble show Parenthood brought in 4.4 million total viewers last night, which is an increase of 5 percent week-to-week. However, now would be a breat time to send an e-mail blast to all of your friends urging them to watch watch the series, because Parenthood is not looking too good not to get another season. Elsewhere last night, Fox's new comedy Surviving Jack (which Tim thought was kind of meh), drew 5.1 million viewers and earned a 1.3 in the 18-49 demo. [TV Line]

... Syfy's been pretty busy today, first renewing Helix for a second season, and now releasing the first poster for Sharknado 2: The Second One (SHARK HAPPENS!). But that's not all: Syfy has also moved up the film's premiere date to July 30, which is one whole day earlier than what was previously announced. Anyway, here's the poster:

CASTING NEWS

... Dana Delany (Body of Proof) is the latest actor to join Amazon's drama pilot Hand Of God, which stars Sons of Anarchy's Ron Perlman as Judge Harris Pernell, a "hard-living, law-bending married man" with some questionable morals and a lady on the side. He eventually  experiences a religious awakening and starts to believe that God is talking to him through his son, who's on a ventilator. Delaney will play Pernell's wife, Crystal. [Deadline]

I think the Sharknado really is a revival of the dumb 1950s cult movies like the Blob or giant spiders. So on that note, I will be watching it and laugh my head off on its kitsch.

Really like the Sharknado poster. I even really really like the tilte of "The Second One". Alas, those are oing to be the best part of the film.

Like probably most people, I totally watched it because of the catchy title. However, fall asleep watching it and so did all of my company except one. SPOILER AHEAD Not saddened by the loss but more so by the lack of the sharknado throughout the majority of the movie (it appears somewhere at the end.)

The line-up for The Writers' Room, season two looks even more exciting than season one. I am definitely looking forward to it. If you are fans of the shows, it is definitely fun to watch Jim interview the people behind it. I am looking forward to all of it except Pretty little Liars. My only complaint is why is TWD not getting their own episode and have to share?

Hand of God sounds terrible but watching Ron Perlman plays this character could possibly be very fun.

Ever since seeing Stoker Mathew Goode has always been...creepy
Sharknado 2 is another sign that syfy has fallen so far from the quality channel it once was
And any show with Dana delany is worth watching, she's a great example of how older women still have that mixture of charisma, sex appeal, and great talent

I was too busy thinking about how cute I found Goode during the court scenes that I nearly forgot about being SPOILED about Will's impending death, heh.

He already seems to have a better handle on his fake American accent than Kalinda!

Kalinda isn't even trying. She is supposed to be British I think.

Personally, I would've rather seen Geneva Pine (actress Renée Goldsberry) as the a serious regular on The Good Wife, she was a good antagonist. They obviously wanted a guy though. I do hope she pops up again, maybe working for L&G or something.

Matthew Goode was alright in the shooting ep, but I don't know if his softly snarky they're going to do/say this approach would get a bit stale after a while.
That Sharknado poster is simply un-American!
Hand Of God sounds appalling. I like Perlman a lot but this idea is simply daytime TV balls at best. If only Delany hadn't played such an unapproachable/likable bitch in BoP, she may've still been in that - cause I'm sure she'll be different here too.

The best news I've heard this week is that RiffTrax is going to be riffing Sharknado. More like SNARKnado, am I right?

Matthew Goode was great as the prosecutor... I definitely think he is preferable to Damian Boyle (ugh) who was pretty pointless and MJ Fox... That character is ok in small doses but not more (IMO...)

Surely not, if they try to present him as the new Will. If they give him his own story and room for development I think he'll be fine.

I still think Sharknado 2 should been subtitled "Bitten on the Wind". That was going to be my entry in that naming contest they had, if I had Twitter.

Nitpick for future reference: I've seen the episode, but writing "SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER..." which runs right into a bolder and underlined "Death of Josh Charles" is NO help to anyone who has not seen it and doesn't know. You did not even have to specifically write that and just state it as "The Good Wife's traumatic episode" with that being linkable for anyone wanting to know. Noting Goode as a new regular would have been enough.

I don't really see Goode as important enough news anyway, or care how many men or woman or on, just that the show and cast are good. What about Renee Goldsberry who was often on? Was she in the State Attorney's office? She might have been a logical choice to make a regular, no? It would also give the show more ethnic diversity in their regular cast. This guy is on once and he gets the job? Funny, it all appears like grounds for a discrimination lawsuit.

I'm sure they wanted as close a replacement for Will as possible. It was likely anyway, seeing as he was more likeable than most attorneys on the show when they oppose the regulars.

Woohoo! Dana Delaney back on T.... errr.... some TVs or other viewing screens? Well, either way, Hand of God is looking better and better as news continues to flow. Still a bit hard to see Clay, err Ron Perlman as a Judge, unless it was a 2000A.D. Judge!!!!

I knew Matthew Goode was going to be a regular, but I hope they give Cary a chance to shine now as lead male character. Poor, poor Cary. At least he now has Kalinda right.

Nothing can stop the awesomeness of Sharknado..ot even a weak sequel title!! Btw, is it me or does that poster make it look like the shark is holding the Statue's torch...?...say, that would be cool if Sharknado can only be stopped by plucky C-level actors/actresses holed up in the Statue of Liberty...:D

Um, oh dear, Finn Polmar is going to become a regular? This is... risky. He seemed interesting for a prosecutor but not main actor quality. Still, as long as he's better than Damian Boyle, am I right?

I wonder what his relation to Alicia is going to be. I hope they don't mean him as this kind of Will's replacement.

Oh, dear God, NO! Wouldn't work at all. The guy just doesn't have that leading man appeal that would be needed for that kind of relationship. Now, bring someone like Dermot Mulroney in and we might have something. Of course his new show "Crisis" would have to bite the dust and so would that goofy professor look they've got him sporting. Cut his hair. Give it a bit of the salt & pepper look and put him in an expensive suit and there ya go. Just my humble opinion and wishful thinking. ;)

Anybody else have a suggestion? Could be fun to be a casting director. Eh?

Peace, Diane

Well, they can't continue to limit themselves to cases between LG(-G) and F/A, so a strong prosecutor would be a good move.

Matthew Goode's name was with the series regulars last week so I kinda figured.

Parenthood totally deserves season six.

I just watched Surviving Jack and I thought it was really funny. Plus 1991!
