News Briefs: Walton Goggins Is Guesting on Community

... Get ready for awesome news in 3... 2... 1... Justified's Walton Goggins will guest-star on Community. He'll play Mr. Stone, a mysterious man who tempts the study group with an interesting offer. Could it be... the opportunity to erase Season 4 from memory? Community still doesn't have a return date, but now it has Goggins, making the wait even more painful. [TV Guide]

... A&E has ordered the reality series Crazy Hearts: Nashville. It's another one of those shows that follows musicians as they try to "make it." Good luck to you guys, and remember, I ordered my Coke with no ice. [A&E via press release]

... Fellow newshound Kaitlin Thomas (who has been writing many editions of News Briefs lately, thanks K!) may not be a fan of ratings, but I sure am! TNT's new reality show Cold Justice debuted last night to 2.9 million viewers. Okay, I'm not a fan of ratings anymore. [TNT via press release]

... NBC is developing Former Fat Girl, a comedy based on the book 10 Lessons from a Former Fat Girl. The series is being produced by Jason Katims' True Jack Productions, and would center on a woman in her mid-30s who's lost a lot of weight and is entering the dating scene with her new trim body. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are responsible for fifty percent of television created today, and that figure might increase now that ABC has purchased First Timers, a comedy from The Neighbors producers Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker. The series would follow a guy and a gal who form a business partnership. [Deadline Hollywood]

... The likable Jason O'Mara has time-traveled for three of his biggest gigs, warping back to prehistoric days and fighting dinosaurs (and viruses and birds) on Terra Nova, zapping back to the 1970s in the occasionally outstanding U.S. remake of Life on Mars, and whooshing over to the 1960s in CBS's Vegas, but his next role will see him journey all the way to 2013! O'Mara has landed an important recurring role on CBS's legal drama The Good Wife, playing an Irish lawyer looking to join the corporate ranks. You know what this means: native accent! [Deadline Hollywood]

... More native accents! Starz has added a pair of Scottish actors to its upcoming series Outlander, a drama about a WWII nurse who time-travels back to the days of highland warriors in Scotland. Graham McTavish (The Hobbit) and Gary Lewis (Billy Elliot) will play nephew and uncle in Clan MacKenzie. [Starz via press release]

... Elizabeth Hurley, or Liz Dahling, as I like to call her, will next be seen on E!'s pilot The Royals. The drama is a rare foray (for E!) into scripted television, and follows a fictional royal family. Hurley will play the Queen. And because Hurley is British, you know what that means... another native accent!!! She last appeared on Gossip Girl, but I'll always know her as the woman Hugh Grant cheated on because he was an idiot. [Deadline Hollywood]

... The Arsenio Hall Show returns to televisions on Monday, September 9 (check your local listings for channels), and he'll have guests! Including Chris Tucker (Monday), Ice Cube and Lisa Kudrow (Tuesday), Magic Johnson and George Lopez (Wednesday), Mark Harmon and Penn & Teller (Thursday), and Angela Bassett (Friday). And they'll all be using their native accents! [Arsenio Hall Show via press release]

... Like school and zombies but hate physically going to class? UC Irvine is partnering up with AMC and tech company Instructure for a massive open online course titled "Society, Science, Survival: Lessons from AMC's The Walking Dead." The FREE course will cover "scholarly topics through the lens of a hypothetical zombie apocalypse." I can't wait for the test on keeping your dumb kid from wandering off. Sign up HERE. [AMC via press release]

... Remember! It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, and Totally Biased with W. Kumau Bell return tonight on FXX (the second X is bolded for effect). So reroute your DVRs, search your cable guides for FXX, and don't panic. There's a good chance FXX is still listed as Fox Sports Soccer. [A message from me to you]
