News Briefs: Watch The Goodwin Games Now for Free

WATCH IT BEFORE YOUR FRIEND DOES NEWS

... You can watch the Fox sitcom The Goodwin Games right here before it premieres on television on Monday, May 20, but don't get too attached: Barring a miracle, this one is being burned off. [TV.com]

BUSINESS TIME

... Now that we know what "The Mother" looks like, it's time to look ahead. The final season of How I Met Your Mother will take place entirely during Barney and Robin's wedding weekend where Ted meets the mama, and it will show all of the other characters meeting her first. I do not know if this is a good idea, so won't you tell me? [TV Line]

... In "I didn't expect this, but I'm pleasantly surprised" news, Game of Thrones writers and creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are penning an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I'm looking forward to hanging out with Charlie Kelly of House Gluehuff, King of the Rats. [Rob McElhenney's Twitter]

... TBS and TNT are taking a big step forward with regard to online TV viewing. This summer, both cable networks will be live-streamed online through various apps to cable and satellite subscribers. Elsewhere, ABC has announced that it is doing the same for mobile devices. I can't wait to watch Franklin & Bash on the bus and throw my phone out the window. [TBS and ABC via press release]

CASTING NEWS

... John Reese has a permanent driver. Person of Interest is making Sarah Shahi a full-time regular next season, meaning the badass and hotass Agent Shaw will be sticking around to snark at our favorite leg-shooter. This is great news, but let's hope she stays fairly rogue; we don't need anyone joining Reese, Finch, and Bear's business permanently. [THR]

... Shakira said she is not returning to The Voice as a judge/mentor, which shouldn't be surprising because she was just keeping the chair warm for Christina Aguilera. Aguilera is returning next season after taking a year off to be an international pop music superstar. CeeLo Green is coming back, too. [Access Hollywood]

... In more inconsequential singing-competition-show judging news, He-Man, I mean Nicki Minaj (go on and click the link, trust me!), is reportedly not returning to the American Idol judges' table. Rumors are swirling that producers are clearing out the entire cast of judges in an effort to revamp the show after sliding ratings. [US Weekly]

... CBS's new comedy The Millers is losing some cast members already. The roles that belonged to Michael Rapaport and Mary Elizabeth Ellis are now being recast, though we don't know why. But maybe it was Margo Martindale's farts. Oh, you'll have to watch the trailer to get that one. [Deadline Hollywood]

... The Simpsons will once again welcome former Saturday Night Live player Kristen Wiig to its audio booth. Wiig will voice an FBI agent in the episode "Homerland," which is due this fall. Wiig previously voiced a substitute teacher on the long-running series. [EW]

... Thrice-named actor Michael Raymond-James (Terriers) has been promoted to regular on ABC's Once Upon a Time, where he plays Neal/Baelfire. [TV Line]

"...we don't need anyone joining Reese, Finch, and Bear's business permanently."

We definetely don't. And I don't really get what's so exciting about making Reese look incompetent or dumb. We don't need this kind of female characters, put there just to make males appear inferior. Moreover it's a shame they also ruined Carter during this second season, now we don't really know where she stands on the show. She was their moral compass and now she goes and kidnap criminals. And Fusco wasn't even there in the end. Unbelievable.
We had a great team of four people, Shaw is welcome to lend a hand once in a while, but our guys have managed to handle things without her before, so we don't need her snarky remarks and her I kwok it all attitude. She should be more humble.

And I love POI, I haven't loved a show so much since ages, and I loved Shaw! But her addition as a regular just pissed me off. I only hope the writers will prove once again they're as great as I think they are and deal with this cast choice in the best possible way.

I'm very unsure about HIMYM's final season. I hope there are some flash forwards to Ted and the Mothers relationship or a few episodes after the meeting with maybe time jumps or something to make it end on a big event like the proposal or Teds wedding. Perhaps the midseason finale could be when Ted meets her and then half the season can be afterwards

I have more respect for Shakira now that she is leaving! Cristina can lick her boots, no comparison!!!!

watched the Goodwin Games, there's not much happening, I don't think it deserves a season or more episodes, even though I love Becki Newton she deserves better!!!

I don't think an entire season playing out over one weekend is the worst idea ever, but it surely isn't the best. It makes sense, though. We'll get to meet, like and eventually care about the mother before Ted does. It's clever. For him meeting her will have a huge impact but it wouldn't matter as much to us as viewers, if we didn't get to like her beforehand. This way, she's not just another girl Ted meets.

....... I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to watch the Voice with Xtina and CeeLo again instead of Shakira and Usher.

That's okay, I've never been able to watch it - just more reality crapola...

Okay, I can accept that as a valid reason, but no Storage Wars or Honey Boo Boo...

Nope, I would never.

There was a connection between Rob McElheney and 'Game of Thrones' as he hosted the Emmy Academy's 'Evening With Game of Thrones' with members of 'Games' cast and Benioff and Weiss and George RR Martin. If you can find it on internet it was really good. It seemed like an odd choice for host until he started firing questions. That news is awesome, should be a fun episode. I bet someone from 'Games' pops up in the episode as well.

So 24 episodes just for a weekend? This is the worst possible idea.

well 24 did a Season all in 1 day and that lasted at least I think 4-5 seasons

24 was different kind of show

yeah it was and just give it a break as it's something diff. It's like what if? 50 First dates was a TV Series as it kinda takes this premise.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss writing an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia? That sounds like one insanely brilliant idea! Next up: Dan Harmon writes an episode of Homeland.

Please, Nolan & Co, be careful with the whole Agent Shaw thing.

Shaw as a regular! OMG! Thank you! Thank you God!!! Love that woman!!! As if I needed more incentive to stick with POI! This show has such amazing characters!

How I Met Your Mother : and entire season in one week ???
well if they can pull it off i guess it's ok and the idea of everyone meeting her before Ted is good
but i wanted a season of Ted and The Mother falling in love
well i guess that's why it's called How I Met Your Mother

Oh gee, can I? Really? I can watch the Goodwin Games early before I don't watch it on broadcast or Hulu or Netflix or anywhere? Gosh, thanks.

HIMYM taking place during their wedding is lame-o, we care about these characters doing new things and living their lives, not meeting some broad one at a time.

Love that news of Game of Thrones writers doing It's Always Sunny.

Hey now, Franklin & Bash isn't that bad. Not sure why they think we want to watch their shows online though. Were I running a network, I'd be pimping the high quality broadcast/cable experience (aka I'd be making sure my goddamned sponsors were happy!).

Sarah Shahi exists, that's all that really matters.

Oh noes! Not Shakira and her unintelligible yodeling and useless comments and coaching, whatever shall the universe do now? (I have been coerced into sitting through the voice a few times this season.)

Fuuuuck, that He-Man/Nicki Minaj comparison is too damned funny. As a TV blog though, you really should know the character is PRINCE ADAM. Also, "oh noes, blah blah blah" who cares if she's on Idol, or if anyone is on Idol for that matter.

Aw man, Michael Rapaport and The Waitress from It's Always Sunny are both pretty funny folks, not a good sign. Now who will adopt an over-the-top New York accent and pretend like it's the '90s still and they're relevant? No, that was cheap.

Yeah, Kristen Wiig on Simpsons, kickin' my heels together on that one just like a prospector at the first sign of a gold nugget. Oh wait, actually I'm doing the exact opposite of that.

I still haven't really bought Sarah Shahi as this "bad-ass agent." To be honest, Bear was the only addition we needed to the team.
1
Reply
Flag
The importance of Bear cannot be emphasized enough. He is the glue that keeps the team together. And let's face it: Reese is good with a gun, and Finch is good with computers, but in the end it's Bear that pretty much single-handedly, or single-pawedly, solves the cases just by being present.

awesome Michael Raymond-James news! if it weren't for Robert Carlyle I don't think I would watch it at all. Bael makes it far more palatable as well. I miss Eion Bailey though. stupid f'ing soap style writing.

can't wait for more Sunny and a fresh pair of writers for an episode just sounds like pure win.

I agree with both points when it comes to sarah shahi and POI.

that TBS / TNT news sounds wonderful for fans of mediocre tel-e! I kinda kid, I watch a few of their pathetic-by-high-standards shows too.

I remember being so disappointed in liking happy endings so much when I thought for sure it wasn't coming back after their 2eps at a time burn-off 1st season. of course it came back less funny (or perhaps fresh) so that kinda sucked. anyway I like the two dudes sitting on either side of the chick I don't know and am looking forward to the goodwin games based solely on that and the premise and maybe that it's a fox comedy.

Technically that was an image of Prince Adam & not He-Man, but it's funny nonetheless.

They're the same person, you can tell because Prince Adam has huge tits. It's not like the reboot in the 2002 series where he's all scrawny and has different hair.

Several seasons back, I would have thought that 22 episodes taking place during the wedding weekend was something the showrunners could pull off. But given the last season where we got lots of filler between the meaningful stuff makes me very nervous. I just don't think they have it in them anymore.

Flag
There was meaningful stuff? This is just a fun show most of the time and I'll watch till it ends - but meaningful stuff, c'mon you're taking this way too seriously. Seriously...
Reply
Flag
I mean meaningful as advanced the plot. Yeah, we'd have silly and fun episodes, but it would have things in it that moved the character's arc along. Like how we saw Barney wanting to be with Robin framed around him sleeping with his 200th woman. Now we get things like the bachelor party episode that went absolutely nowhere.

I was just kidding and I do know what you mean, we cool...

Honestly after this piece of news, "How I Met Your Father" doesn't sound all that bad.

I mean, "Yippee, I'm so looking forward to all the filler episodes! -_-"

Any show that recasts a Michael Rapaport part can't be all bad. Why do people keep hiring that meathead?

He's actually okay, but a meathead nonetheless. The real crew is still there, Margo, Beau and I could even live without Arnett...

if i say John Reese was Batman or similar to him , Agent Shaw is more like catwoman ..
they click with each other .. nice combo

happy to see Sarah Shahi again on TV

Well even though I am usually a fan of talent competitions I really cannot stand The Voice and only watched this season because Ive been madly in love with Shakira most of my life. So... bye The Voice. When all this reality crazy hit, why did CBS (was it cbs?) not bring back Star Search? I loved that show growing up.

Shakira leaving makes sense. She's a new mom, and The Voice was supposed to served as a less gruling job than touring, however she's still traving a lot because of it. With a 5 month baby, she's doing what she needs to do now, which is be a mom and enjoy the time with her family. It would suck if she looked back and regretted missing out major milestones like first crawl, first walk, first words, etc...

I'm really against the idea of stretching out 56 hours for the entire 9th season of HIMYM to be on the wedding. I never liked 24, or Watching Ellie. I'd like to get to know the mother, and how the other cast members get to know her, but I'd also like to see Ted fall in love with her. We got that with Victoria. We got that with Robin. We got that with Stella. We had to tolerate Zoey. We got to see the mess that was Jenette. What made HIMYM great was we got all these legendary and tragic love stories for Ted, but underlying it all was as perfect and grand as all these love interest were to Ted, there was something more epic ahead. The audience deserves to see that through.

I would rather see season 9 broken down into three parts. The mother's close encounters with Ted in the past, from her perspective. The 56 hours broken up, with the wedding being the mid-season episode. Then the love story between Ted and the Mom.

I'm not sure what that sound is exactly, but it's a proclamation for my incredibly high level of excitement at Sarah Shahi becoming a regular next season on POI. OMG OMG OMG.

Michael Raymond-James is three times more awesome than any other mere mortal, so it's fitting.

I still won't watch Once Upon A Time, though.

What a giant step backwards! With Ceelo Green and Christina Aguilera gone, The Voice improved by leaps and bounds. I guess there's always the British version.

The Goodwin Games was actually a whole lot better than I expected. I like TJ Miller and all but Jake Lacy would've fit better, but I don't mind the recast..

HIMYM sounds ridiculous.. how many episodes will the final season have? it shouldn't be a full season if that's what they're doing. doing an episode for all of them would be fine but then it should be like the day before the wedding, then 1 episode for each of the 5 people, then the rest be pivotal moments until they get married or something

what's with the Franklin & Bash hate all the time? it's not the greatest show or anything but atleast it's not another stupid generic law show like the rest of them.

Yeah, Franklin and Bash is okay, certainly unworthy of losing a good cellphone over...

Hopefully they'll finally show more Neal on OUAT. I love me some Michael Raymond-James :)

That's a shame. Scott Foley and Becki Newton is a stronger cast than most sitcoms on the way. I mean, I haven't seen it, but on casting it's a better start than just about every sitcom announced for fall. I'm gonna watch an episode, dammit.

Foley couldn't do the show anyway. He's busy secretly boning Olivia Pope.

What! Amy Acker doesn't gets bumped to regular, I actually like her more than Shaw.

Don't really what HIMYM is going for, please just don't mess up this show.

Which one is The Millers again? the one with all the divorces. Din't had much hope anyways.

I don't know about HIMYM, I have been to weddings where it seemed to last 22 days. That is not something I would want to repeat in a show. But I haven't watched the past couple of seasons so.

Congrats to Sarah Shahi, I am glad she is going to be there. She's a great actress and deserves a good show to be on.

I am not sure who in their right mind thinks it is a good idea to bring back Aguilera. She isn't a likable person on the show. Shakira is cute, funny and endearing.

I don't know what to think about HIMYM's season 9 plan, it is ambitious to say the least. I am willing to give it a few episode before I pass judgement. I hope it works out, but I'm not confident it will.

I hope Shaw stays rogue. The first episode she was in, I couldn't get myself to enjoy her (mainly because Reese and Finch were in the epi for about 5 minutes). But, she has grown on me. I still would only like it to be Reese, Finch and of course Bear.
