News Briefs: Which Primetime Hit is Welcoming Summer Glau?

CASTING NEWS

... Summer Glau *click, click, click* HEY! I wasn't even done yet! Summer Glau, who many websites will refer to as a "fanboy's dream girl" or something like that but I'll just refer to her as an angel who fell to Earth, has set up her next major role. I think. Grey's Anatomy showrunner Shonda Rhimes Tweeted today that Glau will appear on the show as a guest star. No details on her appearance have been revealed, so your best bet is to start camping out wherever Grey's films immediately and bring your tiny pair of scissors so you can snip off a lock of her hair. [Shonda Rhimes' Twitter]

... Glee's Lea Michele is really broadening her portfolio and will appear on the Season 2 premiere of The Glee Project. Look for the second season of the reality show, which awards winners with guest stints on the Fox series, to start this summer on Oxygen. [TV Line]

... Starz's upcoming series Da Vinci's Demons, a fictional retelling of the life of Leonardo da Vinci, has cast its Leo. British actor Tom Riley will play the inventor, who will be portrayed in the series as a renaissance man of action and superhero. The 30-year-old Riley has done a variety of UK productions and stage plays. [Starz via press release]

... The Finder has cast the brother of lead character Walter (Geoff Stults): George Stults! If you figured out that George is the real-life brother of Geoff, congratulations! You win a prize. Pick it up from Price Peterson's desk. [TV Line]

... True Blood has recast the role of fairy Claude for Season 5. HBO clipped the pixie wings off of Neil Hopkins and stapled them onto the younger Giles Matthey (The Good Wife). Claude isn't expected to be a major character, but will appear in a multi-episode arc. [TV Guide]

EVERYONE WAS READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL NEWS

... Yesterday was championship Sunday, with two NFL games played to determine which two teams will make it to the greatest thing a human being can ever be a part of, the Super Bowl. Some 48.7 million viewers tuned in to watch the New England Patriots edge out the Baltimore Ravens in the early game, and 57.6 million viewers saw an overtime thriller between the San Francisco 49ers and the victorious New York Football Giants. In related news, I packed four pounds of veggie-sausage queso dip into my arteries yesterday. [Deadline Hollywood]

... American Idol capitalized on its big evening audience with a special broadcast of the singing show and grabbed 19.8 million viewers and a 7.9 rating. But that wasn't enough for Fox. Because the 49ers/Giants game went into overtime, the Idol airing was delayed. Because of the scheduling jumble and widespread DVR recording mistakes, Fox is re-broadcasting the episode on Tuesday night in place of a previously scheduled Glee repeat. Now you can watch Jim Carrey's daughter do just enough to get a golden ticket all over again. [Deadline Hollywood]

RENEWAL NEWS

... CMT has renewed The Singing Bee for Season 4. Yay? [Deadline Hollywood]

DEVELOPMENT NEWS

... NBC has added yet another round of pilots to its already very full list. Chicago Fire is... oh come on, you can figure it out. And County is a medical drama set in a Los Angeles hospital. The latter is of special note because The Event's Jason Ritter is signed on to star. I miss The Event so much, you guys. [Deadline Hollywood]

COLLAPSING, FALLING, AND DIVORCING NEWS

... 30 Rock's Tracy Morgan collapsed while attending the Sundance Film Festival and had to be rushed to a local hospital. Now before you say something like he was drunk or on drugs, here's the truth: He was suffering from altitude sickness. He's since been released and won't miss any significant time on 30 Rock. [TMZ]

... Kevin Federline fell down and suffered chest pains while filming a reality weight-loss show in Australia. It's the second time Federline has been hospitalized while filming the show. Dude, maybe your body is trying to tell you something. [Radar Online]

... Super-amazing-perfect-couple-who-will-never-get-divorced Heidi Klum and Seal are getting divorced. The Project Runway host and Grammy-winning singer have been married for seven years and have four kids. I'm not saying I had anything to do with it, but... okay, I had nothing to do with it. ☹ [People]

It's hilarious that people still treat Summer Glau like she's actually a star and has talent. Or in the adverse, that her looks somehow excuse her lack of talent. Oh, kids... Someday they'll learn. Until then, the rest of us has to suffer through her gasping, desperate attempts to remain relevant.

Wait wait just a stinkin' minute. Did you really just imPLY that SUmmer Glau ISN'T talented? Are you kidding? What desperate attempts has she made to remain relevant? Please, show us the evidence for this wild accusation. She's no different than any other under-the-radar actor or actress trying to find decent work. She doesn't overexpose herself or act out drastically in public for recognition. Have you seen any of her work (4400? Dollhouse? Firefly/Serenity)? She has a pretty lengthy portfolio and knows how to put an eccentric sense of humanity in her characters. So really, save the harsh criticism for someone who actually CAN'T act. You know, someone like yourself.

I'm bored to read the same comments from online bloggers about Summer Glau; thats very cheap that they are spamming this "fanboys dream girl" thing all the time( are the fangirls invisible or what) . Still they are all supportive so I won't complain that much.

At least M. Tim Surette has the merit to write that she's an angel among us; yet it doesn't surprise me since he has always been so supportive in his previous articles.

I bet he'll be the first to stalk GA's set to have a lock of Summer's hair.

Summer glau will do an awesome job like always. She's a great actress, its a shame the shows shes been on has suffered from insufficient ratings and therefore have been cancelled. Its a shame she gets the label of show killer because her work has been excellent. Summer you deserve your own show i hope you get it soon.

Does that mean Jason Ritter's leaving Parenthood? I hope not.

Sorry, but even Summer isn't enough to get me to watch Grey's Anatomy.

Summer Glau is a true goddess and I think she is an amazing actress. She was the reason I saw 'Alphas' which is a very good show. All her genre shows are in my fav list!

To all the haters and the supposed 'curse':

She isn't cursed! How I wish people would stop with this BS. Do some research and you'll find almost EVERY actor has cancelled shows on their resume.

Alphas got a second season after she guest starred on it. Chuck isn't getting cancelled. It's getting a proper finish. Also, Dollhouse was already cancelled before she signed on. And people leave out The Unit, which went on for a few seasons after she had her stint on the show. Also The 4400, that one went for a few seasons too. Not to mention CSI and Cold Case, that one went for a lot of additional seasons after her ep. And Big Bang Theory is still going strong.

Am I the only person who can't stand Summer Glau?

Yes.

No you are not. She is also the harbinger of death for most of the shows she appears on.

I guess opinion on her is split pretty even.

Summer Glau. The kiss of death.

My only complaint is (I guess) Summer keeps choosing really weird roles: crazy people, emotionless robots, etc. I've only seen her character(s) act "normal" a handful of times.

Did she get typecast due to Firefly or something? Does she just choose roles with odd personalities for the challenge? Was she a psych-major and decided to apply her knowledge into the roles?

Lovely and talented, but she just gets a lot of weird roles.

love Summer Glau, but i don't want her to be on Grey's Anatomy. she needs to find a show that's actually good for once, because there hasn't been one since Firefly (Dollhouse and The 4400 don't count since she was just guest star really).

She's just going to be a guest on Grey's. Although I don't want to watch it, I will just to watch her.

Haters be damned, Summer Glau is a goddess! And I'm not just saying that because she signed my Sarah Connor Chronicles poster (true story . . . I'm a nerd, okay). But her curse is as undeniable as it is inexplicable. I just wish she would use it for good. Like guest starring on Whitney or somehow appearing on nearly every reality show. (Except American Idol. Not even the Glau curse could slay that beast)

I don't know if any of you saw this trailer at the last Comic-Con (I'm a nerd, okay), but I'm really looking forward to "Knights of Badassdom" (trailer link - http://knightsofbadassdom.com/). It's an epic comedy starring Summer Glau, Peter Dinklage, Danny Pudi, and Ryan Kwanten. Just let that sink in for a second. Are you freaking out? I was (and still am).

I don't think Summer is cursed. When producers realise their show is not going to succeed, they bring Summer in to guest a few episodes to boost the ratings for a while.

It definitely works on me :D

I think there are more nerds then we all expect. I know most people don't realize what a nerd I am. Although my Autographed Max Brooks World War Z comic speaks differently. And Summer Glau is awesome. I am a woman, and LOVE her. And not in the way that get men all titillated, just in the "great actress, great roles" kind of way.

Oh, and she was on Angel, and it did a few seasons after that.

Amen! It's amazing that there are people who don't find Summer attractive at all. What's up with that? And the existence of The Curse truly is inexplicable. Summer's success ratio (her talent coefficient divided by the number of successful productions) is remarkably low. Unfortunately, I don't think her next TV production "Scent of the Missing" about the K-9 unit is going to improve her status. Personally, I have no interest in the premise of the show, but I'll watch it religiously because of Summer and Tricia Helfer.

A thought just crossed my mind. If there was an actress combing the features of Summer and Zooey Deschanel, that would blow my mind. Literally. Or maybe Summer could guest star on New Girl (without the curse)? These two actresses have never worked together before, so having Summer play one of Jess' kooky friends would be fun.

I have a wish list for tv.com! I would like to be able to click on any actor's name and have it take me to a page with a nice large photo of them along with a clean list of other shows they have been in. I hate having to navigate back and forth between here and another internet television/movie database's site to put an actor's name to a face and get their Filmography.

Click on the black underlined actor's name. Note the nice large photo. Note the Related shows at the left. Now click on the Credits tab and note the full and clean list of other shows they have been in. Try it with Tracy Morgan above.

I know it works with fairly well known actors, but for actors that aren't very well known...all you get is a couple of small screen shots if you are lucky...kind of like with Neil Hopkins and then nothing with Giles Matthey.

Summer Glau is no Ted McGinley.

Well now I kinda wish I didn't stop watching Grey's a few years ago.. I know when Summer Glau stars in a show it tends to get canceled, but I'll be darned if those shows aren't some of my favorites. Firefly, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse, and The 4400, all great shows in my opinion (Don't mind me while I ignore The Cape...) I'd rather someone build a show around her and get at least 13 badass episodes out than her do a stint on Grey's Anatomy.

Really, George Stults is going to play Geoff Stults' brother? But they look nothing alike.

Oh come on with all the Summer Glau glass-half-emptyisms guys! She's had some hits. What about The Ca...no, sorry. Or Chuc...na, wrong there too...Well at least there's Alphas, still not cancelled!

I am SO disappointed that my country, Australia was not able to kill off K-Fed for good. It would have been our gift to the world - we'll keep trying, maybe I should buy a crossbow?

We should clarify that's it really only shows that she was a regular on or had a recurring role. And when you think about it, there aren't a ton of actors out there who can say they've been on a hit series.

I feel bad for Summer Glau. I mean she is a good actress. But shows that she is on die. Now I would love for Grey's Anatomy to die to free up a spot on ABC's schedule for anything else that could be worth while. So I am glad she is there.

And NBC just has no original ideas. Chicago Fire? I am not sure i would want to watch another drama around a fire station outside of Rescue Me. I damn sure don't want NBC and their stupidity to take the reigns of one. And as much as I like Jason Ritter, dude find something else. Get away from NBC as fast as possible. Hurry, RUN! Can't support you on The Event, Tim, that was horrible with a capital H.

I think Tim was being a mite sarcastic about The Event.

I would hope so. But some people really liked that show for reasons beyond my comprehension.

The Event had a certain Terra Nova-esque quality to it. By that I mean we loved to hate it.

The Event was terrible if you're looking for good television, but great if you were looking for bad television. It made me laugh... a lot.
Flag
@ Mate - C'mon. Are you telling me you didn't enjoy bashing The Event to your friends who actually thought it was a good show? Not even a little bit?
Flag
Nah I just hated it. With Terra Nova I can point to specific things like. Josh should die, Mira should no longer exist. Lucas was a whiny arse with daddy issues. And there were no consequences for those that completely screwed everything up for everyone. Where as with The Event I can't point to any one thing (aside from Sara Romers character) it was just all bad, all the time. But saying that, I have friends that truly loved that show and were pissed and couldn't figure out why it was pulled.
Flag
I guess Grey's Anatomy is the next to be cancelled? Too late to sign up for that Deadpool?
