News Briefs: You Can Watch USA's Graceland and IFC's Maron NOW If You Want To

FREE TV!

... USA's upcoming drama Graceland is now available via On Demand through most cable carriers (check your On Demand guide), in case you're one of those people who doesn't like to wait for things. The show is about agents of the FBI, DEA, and U.S. Customs who all live in the same apartment. Graceland makes its television debut on June 6, but now you can watch it early and spoil it for your friends. ... Or if comedy's more your thang, IFC has posted the entire first episode of its upcoming comedy Maron, starring Marc Maron as a guy who complains about things a lot, on its website.   [IFC.com]

BUSINESS TIME

... Fans of bad television, do not go on a family vacation this summer! NBC is bringing back Do No Harm to mercifully finish up its first season on Saturday nights beginning June 29 at 10pm, and ABC is burning off the leftover episodes of Zero Hour, also on Saturdays, starting June 15 at 8pm. I've never been more excited for summer in my life! [Futon Critic]

... In case the screeching caterwauling of The Voice's amateur singers isn't doing it for you, NBC is bringing in some PROS. The singing competition will welcome guest performers Rod "Do You Think I'm Sexy" Stewart and CeeLo "F*ck You" Green to its May 8 episode, and Robin "My Dad Was the Guy from Growing Pains" Thicke, Pharrell Williams, and T."Texas Instruments" I. to its May 14 episode. [NBC via press release]

... Uh-oh, look out. Spike TV is getting into scripted television. The testosterone-fueled channel has five "special-event series" projects in development, and they all sound pretty silly. Included in the lot are Hit Men, following the mafia's takeover of the music industry in the 1970s, and The Lamp, about a secret '70s government agency that found Aladdin's Lamp. [Spike TV via press release]

... Ummmm, why, Fox? The final three episodes of New Girl, including tomorrow's installment, will start two whole minutes early, at 8:58pm. Is it two extra minutes of commericals? Is it 120 seconds more of Zooey Deschanel pushing her glasses up her nose? Is it one-thirtieth of an hour of Schmidt taking his shirt off? I don't know, but for some reason I am unreasonably upset at Fox for this. [Fox via press release]

CASTING NEWS

... The next season of American Horror Story, which will be known as American Horror Story: Coven, is adding Oscar nominee and The Big C star Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) to its cast. But because the news was announced via Ryan Murphy's twitter, we have no information on Sibide's role except that Murphy is "thrilled" about it. Let's just assume she'll play a blind cannibalistic witch hunter from an alien planet. [Ryan Murphy's Twitter]

... Hey did you know that John Krasinski also known as The Office's Jim also known as that guy who is always making faces at the camera is going to appear in the new Arrested Development? Well now you do! [EW]

... Comedian Sarah Silverman, who you may know from such jokes as "Doody doody fresh and fruity" and "I'm a girl but I'm about to say something about doody," is getting her own HBO standup special. Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles will premiere sometime this fall. [HBO via press release]

You'd thing the different government agents would be making enough money to pay for their own place. The government takes enough money from me to at least afford to rent a one bedroom apartment?!

You took the words right out of my mouth! Why are well-paid federal agents shacking up in the first place? And how much time could they really spend at home since they're busy saving the country...

Sorry Graceland, your premise seems too silly, The Real World but with undercover agents, and then it's supposed to be "dark drama".

Maron is a must-watch and since I don't have IFC, this is my only chance for a while.

How can Spike TV be getting into ANYTHING??? They're months away from turning into Esquire. They're so dumb!

Premise was silly, so many cliches and the whole cop writing down everything in a notebook as he goes along? WTF. But other than that, it could just end up being a fun watch more than a serious one youd get from Justified or something. it is USA afterall. Next few episodes will definately have to pick things up for me to keep with it.

The thing is, USA asked their current showrunners to come up with pilots that were darker, more serious, more gritty a la FX, so they're changing their brand a little over on USA Network.

The New Girl thing unreasonably upset me too. I think it is because I already have my DVR set up for it to go two minutes late. Heck, I decide usually to watch it live and sometimes it goes that long and I record it twice while recording the Mindy Project and sometimes I record the open to the Mindy Project twice. It is kind of super annoying. You can say this for NBC and CBS, at least they account for it. With FOX, I am constantly having to see the end of the American Idol results show too.

"The Lamp, about a secret '70s government agency that found Aladdin's Lamp" this sounds ridiculous IMO

Burn off for Do No Harm...any news about airing the four produced episodes of Next Caller? Please NBC, I want to see this! Even if it's on Saturdays in the summer!

I don't watch New Girl, but I am fed up with all these shows starting early or ending a minute or two late. It's such a lame strategy thought up by the networks to try and "trick" you into watching the following show. I hope TPTB eventually put a stop this madness... but they won't.

Marc Maron is so annoying in that trailer. I think he's only good in [very] small doses.

Thumbs up for the former, not the latter.

I super excited about Graceland based only on the description of the premise, that it's on USA and that it stars that dude from Rescue Me which I never saw a full episode of, "one for the money," and that one episode of Lie To Me.

According to TVLine, ABC is also gonna air all the remaining eps of 666 Park Avenue. Also really hoping that CW air the remaining eps of Cult, 'cause if they don't, I'm gonna be real pissed on top of their renewal of BATB over Nikita.

Spike getting into dramatic series isn't exactly a bad thing. Finally someone making drama for guys. The last time the networks did that was during the 70s.
