Sorry dudes, there will be less sexy car washes by a leggy blonde on Desperate Housewives moving forward. Actress Nicolette Sheridan is leaving the ABC dramedy after five years, reports TVGuide.com. Sheridan was one of the original housewives, having been on the show since its onset.
"[Nicolette] had a great time on the show and is looking forward to her next project," Sheridan's rep told the site.
On Desperate Housewives, Sheridan plays Edie Britt, the man-eating fifth housewife behind Susan (Teri Hatcher), Lynette (Felicity Huffman), Bree (Marcia Cross), and Gabrielle (Eva Longoria Parker). Edie's current husband, Dave (Neal McDonough), is a central character in the current season.
ABC has not announced how or when Edie's character will be written off the program.

Stupid move to get rid of Edie/Nicolette. She was part of what made the show so great. I have begun to lose interest since her departure.....

Uh yeah, never really been a fan of Edie so she can go. I doubt they'll kill her off though, that's a bit extreme plus it would be too obvious. Hopefully, they'll think of something else. Once creepy Dave is found out for real or he gets to kill Katherine, that may be what makes Edie just want to get away and start fresh somewhere else.

Edie you will be missed. Your no nonsense character was the perfect secret ingredient to the show.
The character of Edie is too one-dimensional, i'm not surprised Nicolette has decided to move on to better things.

I think it is ridiculous they are killing off Edie. Not that I would want any of the rest of them off (except maybe Katherine who has become BORING!) but I really hate that they feel they have to kill one of the housewives.
I'm annoyed that the writer's of DH seem to only get actors and actresses in for one season because of the "mystery" of that season and then get rid of them. The only actor who has stayed on from his part in a mystery is Orson. Katherine, too, stayed on but she doesn't do anything useful for the show now that her mystery is over. The only reason they brought Edie back this season was because of her new husband's mystery and now they're getting rid of her because the mystery is wrapping up soon. I'm so annoyed.
I'm sad that she's leaving. However unless they give her something better to do than just act the way she does, what's the point of keeping her. I do hope that they won't kill her maybe she can pop in from time to time. Good luck Nicolette.

This is really sad... I believe they gonna kill her anyway. It will be a great shock for the others 5 housewives.
hopefully she won't be killed off of the show so she may come back for a one off or something in a future season.
season 5 is my favourite so far, and i loved her humour and interactions with Gaby and Susan, and her blackmail with Bree.
hopefully before the season ends we get more screen time with Edie before the grande finale.
season 5 comes back to the UK next week:) picking up from eppy 10 onwards...can't wait, hopefully the show won't go down in quality because of this move.
She will be missed but this season she hasnt been so involved, it's not like its going to kill a ton of side plots...

What?!?!? Edie's slutty, man eating, mean ways make Wisteria Lane even better. If they write her off, I know that a lot of people are going to write off, and send off, hate mail and drop the show like she dropped the show. (However, that's not me.)
I am really sad to see her go, but the reality is that she was only put on the show to be a pain in the A** for Susan. I do love the back and forth relationship but I think it's a little over played at this point! I still LOVE her character and I hope that she (assuming she isn't murdered) comes back for an episode or two

I'm very disappointed, you can just see that Katherine (yawn) will get more storylines (worst character on the show), i'm really gonna miss Edie she made the show fun, shes actually 1 of the 3 good characters
I'm with grace87, why put her back just to write her off again... That sucks she brought something to the show with her character... But sure enough she is a great actress and deserves new gigs.

Oh this is the best news I've heard in awhile. Not only is her character a complete waste of time but so is the actress. Easily one of the worst actresses ever. She's just as bad as Ali Larter on Heroes. And both are just hurtful to the eyes. Gross.
Well, the whole story with Dave this year has been much of a dud. Nicolette has been great -- but after this season, I'm kinda glad to see her go.
She's one of the main reasons I watch this show!

This is BS! Seriously WTF? They already said she was done for S4 and now she's out for S5.I haven't watched S5 at all, but why? This is a bad move, I would hate that other woman to replace her.
