The final season of Lost is coming up soon ("early 2010" is what we know so far), and so far, there's been a grand total of zero new footage released. Though we saw some cheeky clips at Comic-Con promoting the sixth and final season of television's most mysterious program, not one new frame of actual footage has surfaced anywhere, even on that vast wasteland of information known as the Internet.
And you know what? That's perfectly alright with me.
In a day and age where programs are over-promoted almost to the point where actually watching the show is redundant, it's a great idea—especially for the enigma that is Lost—to force everyone to head into Season 6 completely blind. That's how it should be, and that's how it all too often isn't.
As the story goes, ABC obviously wanted to release some some brand-spankin'-new footage in order to get hype going. But Lost producers pleaded that the network hold off, if possible, forever. Why? Because:
"I think even a single scene from the [final season of the] show would basically tip what it is we're doing this year," producer Damon Lindelof said, according to SciFiWire. "And what it is we're doing this year is different than what we've done in other years."
The idea that ABC is actually taking this advice to heart is staggering. The network has a whole army of marketers ready and waiting to pimp out the show until fans' eyes bleed, but they haven't released the hounds yet.
"That is the marketing strategy that we are trying to impose upon our masters," said Lindelof, referring to the notoriously controlling ABC (a result of its parent network, Disney). "I can't unequivocally say that we will be able to hold the embargo all the way up until the actual premiere, but it's pretty cool that we're not showing anything as late as November, so we'll see."
Indeed! Spoilers are the bane of my existence, and they're everywhere these days. Heck, I barely watch movie trailers anymore. I don't publicists and marketers telling me what's going to be cool—I'll find out for myself, thank you very much.
Here's an official ABC trailer for the upcoming season of Lost, which uses only recycled footage yet still does the job of getting me pumped for the ride.

LOST is the only show I never want to be spoiled on
Do not show anything Lost! Screw ABC, they were wrong the other 5 years, they'll be wrong until the end of time, make a stance!
Lost is one of the few shows I stay unspoiled for. I'm loving the no spoiler campaign. It's refreshing to not know exactly what's going to happen in the premier.
this is old news and sad news:(

Hey!This video is 15 sceonds long. One of The Numbers!
I still can't believe ABC agreed on this. And I sure hope nothing is spoiled. This season I'll try to avoid any kind of spoilers!
Brilliant. It's exactly the way it supposed to be. Now all I need to do is avoid all the speculation spoilers and I'm good to go!
Better that way!
I guess no more "Next time on Lost..."?
I am looking forward to seeing the last season. I am hooked!
Let's hope it stays that way until the finale, trailers are often waaaaaaaaaay too spoilerific ( "last year, the "Bentham" trailer spoiled all the big suprises of the episode ! )
I am IN....... all the way!
good i shall make it really interesting =D
Keeping things under wraps like this only heightens expectations, they better not disappoint
About time!!!! I cant wait!!!
what abc would realise is that LOST fans are LOST fans if u dont see a preview it doesnt matter we will still watch the show any ways just b/c we dont know what to possibly expect. I just love lost and often feel like I'm the only one who does in my small island in the Caribbean great show :)
"The idea that ABC is actually taking this advice to heart is staggering"ABC stumbled onto a goldmine when they picked up lost, they are more than willing to do whatever the creators want as long as they keep up the good work.
Good the final must be a secret...

Totally agree - want to be surprised and can't wait!
I agree. Here's to hoping we see zero footage of the new season. Recycling the old shots is just as good when it comes to marketing.
