Fresh- faced Dr. Carter will exit the ER at the end of this season, putting and end to his 11-year tenure. Dr. Carter will leave the fictional Chicago County General hospital and travel to Africa to work with Doctors Without Borders. Wyle is the only remaining member of the original cast.
Dr. Carter is not entirely gone, however: NBC has renewed ER for another three seasons, and the character is scheduled to appear eight times in the next two.
Wyle cites the desire to spend more time with his family as the reason he is leaving the show. He will appear in the sequel to the television movie The Librarian, on TBS.

well ... sure I'm gonna miss Dr.Carter but I miss all the other Original casting crew form the beginning for ER in '94 .....still ... ER is one of the things that made me love ER specialty :)
Dr. Carter leaving was the end of an era.
I'm gonna miss Dr Carter.
I haven't seen ER in AGES and just found out that Noah Wyle is no longer on the show. Oh, well, I hadn't been watching anyway, but may have started again if he were still on it.
ER isn't going to be the same with no Dr. Carter!! Not sure if the show will ever be as good again.
I miss dr. Carter is was my favorite and still is. I just started watching the shows reruns on TNT.fell in love with his charcter.
he is the best
Yeah, ER went down hill on this one.
Please stay dr. carter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
eu estou muito triste por ele sair...era a miha personagem preferida e parecia q era a luz de ER....era como se fosse ele q animava aquilo tudo...mas agora q sei q ele vai sair já nao tenho a certeza se vou conseguir continuar a ver .....
I'll so glad that he will be making apperances. When other people leave the show they don't come back. Like when Dr. Greene died where was his best friend(George Clooney)? I was very disapointed.
