Nutter brings Terminator saga to TV

The battle for the future of humankind will be fought tonight and, hopefully, the same time next week.

David Nutter will direct The Sarah Connor Chronicles for Warner Bros. TV, to air on the Fox network. Nutter has directed episodes of Smallville, Supernatural, and Without a Trace.

Nutter says he is up to the task of following in blockbuster director James Cameron's footsteps, even with a smaller TV budget.

"It's important for me to live up, as best I can, to the bar that Jim Cameron set," Nutter told Variety. "[It] has to carry as much of a punch."

The Terminator series is one of the most successful film franchises of all time, with the three movies collectively grossing over $1 billion worldwide. Chronicles will follow the events taking place after Terminator 2, when Sarah Connor and her son, John, go underground, hiding from authorities and waiting for the chance to strike at the evil supercomputer SkyNet.

Linda Hamilton, who played Sarah Connor in the films, won't be involved in the new series, nor will original T-800 Arnold Schwarzenneger. Casting is scheduled to begin immediately, and filming will take place in Mexico.

Twelve of the pilots Nutter has directed have been picked up for series runs, including the James Cameron-produced Dark Angel. Nutter will also serve as executive producer on the series, along with longtime Terminator producers Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar.

As I recall, Arnie was slated to do a Doc Savage movie just before he went all politico on everyone. I think a Doc Savage series could work if they do it seriously.Marcus Tee

It wouldn't hurt to see The Sarah Connor Chronicles come into fruition. If ABC got away with The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, then why not Fox?

The only time I can see this happen would be between Terminators 1 and 2. Sometime after 2, she died of leukemia (see Terminator 3). It should make more sense to have these chronicles based on John, since he was on his own after Sarah died.

With none of the original cast, this probably won't last too long. However, I'll look it over at least once or twice.

I just don't get the premise. Between T2 and T3, the threat was supposedly over. So will they really keep having to fight terminators, and trying to stop Skynet (even though they believed that they already had).

Could be watchable. If Blade the Series seems to be liked by viewers, this should definately be semi successful.

The major flaw in Terminator sequels is that if they're in the future, they'd know that the first one didn't work.

So Sarah's going to have a new terminator chasing her each week? Or perhaps the same actor (model). I don't know. This has the potential to bomb big time, it's either going to be really good or really bad.

Well I'm a fan of all three movies even though the third one wasn't that good. But i'll Watch the show at least the 1st couple of episodes just to see what it is going to be about.
Really What would the plot be of this Series. Are sarah conner with John Conner driving around mexico. If so that would be a very boring show. But what the hell I'll give it a shot

Well if it turns out as impressive as Blade the series, I'll keep watching it. But anyone other than Cameron bringing it to life leaves me a bit skeptical (see the horrible continutity in T3).

I guess I will watch the series first episode to see what is all about, but I don't think it will deliver. I love the Terminator series, so I only hope for the best.

If it was based more along the plotline of the "Infiltrator"/"Rising Storm"/"Future War" trilogy of books (which were a lot better than the third film) the series might have some potential

This is dangerous territory. The story cycle is set and now they want to throw in more? What would happen to the Connor's while in hiding, without any Terminator's hunting them, that would make us tune in week after week? Excuse me if I am sceptical. I love all three of the Terminator flicks, but this just sounds like a doomed idea.

I love the terminator movies, i really hope the series can provide anything interesting... Will there be any terminators sent?I don't think they can send any, the movies are told so that there are only 3 timejumps with with each terminator and protector... I hope this doesn't turn out as a dull drama..I guess they can f**k it upp like they did with smallville and give a crap about the orginal story :P

well, i hope they make a good series.

As someone who has found the mentioned three shows that he directed to mostly contain terribly unconvincing characters, I have strong doubts that the Sarah Conor Chronicles will be enjoyable, it probably will end up like the disastrous T3.

I'm a big fan of the movies so I'm rather skeptical of this series......but I am willing to give it a shot.

Well if they try hard enough they could make a decent series (key word COULD) but i wouldnt get my hopes up thats for sure. Some cool ideas could come out of though but itd probly have to change the terminator storyline a lot to extend it etc

They should have let Linda Hamilton do the series, I really don't see it working without her, but I could be wrong. We will give it a look...

It's basically Sarah Conner driving around New Mexico or California with her son, who's gone slightly nuts (post T2-pre T3). And not much else. Probably they'll fight some cops, no doubt. I can see it happening, don't ask why.

You can't escape the fact that John said he wasn't being chased by Terminators for a long time since he's off the grid (plus he would have mentioned something THAT important in T3). I can't see it working. You know the series finale will end up a terminator appearence and you can't shake the feeling that this can go seriously wrong since there's nothing to do every week.

The problem is that the films sum up all the years between films with some simple but effective dialogue. There wasn't any need for more explaination. There's very little in the way of suprise to be honest.

    But we'll see...moreless

Terminator without AS? This could turn out 2 be bad.

Oh man, this is a great concept but it might be with the wrong idea!! This should be a series that takes place after T3 and the chronicles of the war against the machines. Why would they do something on Sarah Connor? Didn't she and John think for the most part (I know Sarah refused to die until August of '97) that they stopped Judgment Day? It doesn't look like there would be any direction. John Connor wasn't aware of the government taking over for Cyberdine's Skynet project until T3. How could they attack a supercomputer that A) hasn't been made yet and B) don't believe exists anymore? Getting away from the authorities? I don't know. Maybe it could work, maybe it can't, but how does that involve Skynet at all? Unless they plan on showing how the government develops the project. That could be interesting.

Whatever the case may be, I'm definetly giving this show a shot because the 'Terminator' franchise is awesome. But I'm just uncertain if they will be able to make this really work. I can't see it working from a Sarah Connor perspective.moreless

This could work out. I'm a big fan of the Terminator series and I would love to see new additions to the story. I just hope they don't mess it up like they did with the Robocop series.

Oh brother, do they have to?Eighties were ok, I grew up in them. Can't they give the kids today something for themselves to reminiscence over in 20 years? And it's spelled Schwarzenegger.

I hope they can pull it off. It could have potential, as long as they don't screw it up ala T3...
Personally, I think that they should do a tv show about the underground resistance in the future...
