Of Course The CW Is Planning a Super-Sized Four-Show Crossover With Its Superhero Series

If you were worried in the wake of the announcement that Supergirl was migrating to The CW for Season 2 that the network would try to connect all four of its DC Comics superhero shows with a mega-super-huge crossover event, well, you were right to be worried! According to Entertainment Weekly, CW boss Mark Pedowitz confirmed the network's intent to do just that during his Upfront presentation on Thursday. "Next season, Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and now Supergirl will join forces in our annual crossover event, our biggest ever," he said. (Would it be more accurate to say threatened?)

That sound you just heard was the crash of multiple desks being flipped over in not one, not two, not three, but four writers' rooms simultaneously. Not only do these folks have to attempt to craft up to 22 or 23 episodes of broadcast television that will keep viewers interested, but they have to also integrate a storyline that will require Ollie, Barry, Kara, and whoever else is left standing from DC's Legends of Tomorrow next season to all team up.

Meanwhile somewhere in an office in Burbank, Greg Berlanti laughs maniacally and throws another dart at a photo of Dick Wolf's face.

Well why not the only problem they are not all from the same earth thanks to the flash/supergirl crossover which means in order for all to be there flash has a lot of running to do lol.

Before we condemn the crossover we'll just have to wait and see how it's gonna happen. Just leave the romance out of it for a while please.

maybe the do it the easy way.. as Supergirl is (arguable) as fast as the Flash she would probably be able to create a breach to earth 1 herself, even by accident.
I wonder how many earth there are so far anyway? We got earth-1 which is home to Arrow, Flash. Legends, we got earth-2 (Zoom's and Harry's Home World) and we got earth-3 where the real Jay Garrick / Flash lives. So which is Supergirls earth in this multiverse? earth-3 as well? or maybe something completely different? On a narrative way the Flash/Supergirl Crossover was poorly done fitting in the overall context. Barry went through a breach to a yet unknown world, meets a supercute near indistruktable alien and doesn't tell this to hie nerds back home? Even in the last Episode, when they had the problem of sending Jay back to earth-3 there was no "Been there, done that"? Come on... You can do better than that

Well said Lex.
They can do better (and should do better).
I could never understand why he said nothing about meeting supergirl I mean come on he should have been "Oh my god" and Cisco would have been drooling from it all lol.
Who knows maybe someday they'll get it all right Lex ;)

You know I actually watched Supergirl for a while, The Flash too. The crossovers pretty much killed them both though, because now both shows are mixed up with Arrow, and now Legends of Tomorrow. In order to watch the crossover episodes, I feel compelled to slog through all the previous episodes of all of them, to bring myself up to date, but I just can't, so they're all just sitting there on my DVR, one big tangled mess, and will probably remain there until they get flushed when I need the space for something else. It's really too bad, but Arrow just depresses me lately, and LoT is so stupid it's unwatchable.

Supergirl moving to the CW is good for the writing crew. Because no matter how God awful, or ridiculous it is. They'll be renewed for years and years to come, just because it's a DC property:/ I'll watch the crossovers for sure. But unless it's the Flash, I'm NOT tuning in on a regular basis.

Epic! Nothing much else to say.

People are so negative about everything nowadays. Probably as a result of being so extremely spoiled with so many things. I find it unpleasant to even read comments and that i enjoy things way more when i avoid it all and just stick to myself.

Imagine back in the 90s if this were a thing how excited fans would be. Now it's just complain and complain and everything is trash and should be cancelled and blah blah blah. By the stars!

That's EASY to write. Some Spoilers Ahead.

1) Barry claims to Kara that Earth-1 has no aliens. LoT reveals that beyond 2166 Thanagarians are arriving to take over earth with only Vandal Savage to save humanity. Also asteroids from said place have been falling to Earth through various points of time. Ergo Aliens do exist on Earth-1 so why not Kryptonians. Or its the Thanagarians come early. Team Arrow, Team Flash and Legends are having problems defeating the alien invasion. Flash goes and retrieves Kara, the Martian, and anti-alien tech to fight Earth-1's alien problem.

2) Alternate selves of Earth-3 (Kara's) Kara finds them, gives them some mumbo jumbo speech of being the best they can be. They defeat some menace. No worry of plot problems in other stories.

3) Barry finally mentions to Wells that he went to another Earth and met Kara. Wells reveals that Kryptonians are no secret on Earth-2 and we get some episode there.

4) The Earths all collapse/converge for a bit. All heroes assemble. Solve it with Science Spackle. They may or may not remember these events.

And probably the best solution with least continuity errors:

5) We know have Hourman coming from the future from the Justice Society of America. LoT goes to his timeline where we have this Society formed. Given that it is in the future, you dont have to worry about it screwing up timing of current plots. Also should a cast member die, blame it on the fluidity of time.

So given it took me seconds to come up with these, and they have more time, more people and decades of comic plots to sort through, I don't see the difficulty. You just need a board in all of these writer's rooms alerting them of concurrent plot lines on other shows and their own.

Well, the Thanagarian invasion is a future event, so unless the Legends bring the others to the future, I don't think we will see it. Also, I remeber Rip Hunter mentioned the men of steel and dark knights, so I assume that Superman and Batman will exist at some point on Earth-1. I think that we'll just see a big bad being defeated, and they'll leave the whole Earth collapse to a future crossover, unless they want to take a risk. Of course Barry needs to tell the rest that he knew Supergirl. I think that if they don't found JSA they will at least mention something, they could say "Hey, we worked quite well associated, didn't we?" at the end of the episode.

Sure, its a future event but now the Oculus, the Vanishing Point, and Savage no longer exists. Also they did a major time wave kaboom using Thanagarian blood, which could attact attention. Anywho, The point was that there is proof that aliens exist in Earth-1 for Millennia.

Kara: "You're who now?" - Oliver: "The Green Arrow" - Kara: "And what's your superpower?" - Oliver: "I shoot Arrows."
Flash and Supergirl worked beautifully. Somehow I can't imagine that with Arrow.
Still this time around they need a reason to bring Supergirl to the Arrow/Flash/Legends-Earth, otherwise they would need to cross to many people over. And it shouldn't be another accident.

That sounds incredibly challenging, but guaranteed rewards await if you can avoid screwing up. Hell, guaranteed rewards await even if you do screw up, the way the Supergirl/Flash team-up resulted in neither titular hero actually saving the day.

To be honest i was hoping that Legends and Supergirl would alternate with one starting in the fall and one mid season, so that there would only be 3 DC superhero shows at one time.

Not really. The crossover of Flash\Supergirl hardly affected the plot of either show. Dick Wolf had 3-way cross overs between his shows and it wasn't much of a thing.

Cross overs can be fun, but most often than not it's a simple excuse to try to get one successful show to bail out a failing one - that literally was the case of Supergirl (Guess it worked?).

The problem is once you crossover, then you constantly have to ask yourself "why don't they call each other every 5 minutes?"

Oliver's villains would be disposed of in 5 seconds with Barry's help.

Well, I think that the viewers realize that they're two different shows, and the two heroes have their own problems, they can't show up anytime. However I think they've done a good work, Barry helped Arrow team in season 3 and Olliver helped Barry in season 1. Barry also showed up after Laurel's death, they mentioned him in the Vixen episode, Olliver's campaign appeared in Central City TV news, they got Black Siren... there are plenty of examples. Of course, we all know that it is a commercial strategy, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun!

Because they shouldn't unless its something major affecting them all. City Pride! They offer so much of their lives looking out for the cities they live in for no pay, and not much respect-why should they add more cities to their plates?

Sure Flash can defeat Oliver's problems quicker- but he actually has super powers. Oliver is therefore doing a more impressive job since he has no powers.

Also LoT are in any point in time or location. Kara is on a different Earth. We still have no idea how far apart Star and Central Cities are.

News"Flash", this "Super" crossover is going to be "Legend"ary, "Arrow" drop.

P.S. Why is it an arrow drop and not a mic drop, because I was talking into an arrow and not a microphone.

P.P.S. Why was I talking into an arrow, because it was the only way I could think of to incorporate the word "Arrow" into my witty sentence at 3am.

P.P.P.S. Why am I up at 3am, because I just finished watching the finale of Legends of Tomorrow that I had recorded.

P.P.P.P.S. Why am I telling you all this, because I want to justify my use of arrow along with words from that represent the other three shows.

I actually liked the character better on Arrow than I did when Matt Ryan was starring in his own show. Shame they could only get him for that one episode, especially since this season of Arrow could've really used him (seeing as how he's been mentioned multiple times since his appearance as a way of explaining things, when him being there to explain them himself would've been cooler).

How are they gonna explain Supergirl? She's from Earth 3? Unless a villain throws her to Earth 1 it will be hard to swallow. IT could work; if majority of Supergirl's cast cannot come with. It could be a good "reboot" idea for Supergirl.

At the very Least I am hoping for a tech team Geek off with:
1. Arrow's Curtis
2, Flash's Cisco
3. Supergirl's Toyman (Is he staying with the move?)
4. LoT's Atom.

How are they gonna explain Supergirl?

It's quite easy, actually - with the Quantum device that Barry originally used to get to Kara's earth in the first place, it could be quite easy for him to 'jump'? over there, grab her and bring her back to his earth, possibly in combination with the/a speed cannon?

We have already seen Barry carry others across earths, and he did manage to get to Kara's earth with the quantum device, so, with just a bit of tricky writing, it's not that difficult!

I also suspect it will be just Kara...Neither Wynn nor Jimmy will be going with her....It's not a party bus after all!

Has anyone else heard of "Crisis on Infinite Earths" because both Barry Allen and Kara Danvers are supposed to die in it. I doubt they will, but you have two of the most important characters for that DC event. It's also a good way to move Supergirl to Earth 1 (for even more crossovers) away from whatever numbered Earth she is on right now.

I was at a panel with Melissa Benoist in C2E2 and the topic of Crisis did come up. She was really cryptic about it, saying that if the Crisis ever happened it would happen in the series finale of the Flash. She seemed to acknowledge that the Flash is more popular than her show and would outlive hers, and guaranteed that, should Supergirl go off the air, she would be left alive in the series finale, and her character would somehow merge over to the Flash in order to meet her final fate. (at least that's how I interpreted her answer.)

Considering that these crossover episodes generally manage to be among the most interesting in a season for any show, I'm all for it. Anything that takes away from the usual drudgery and doesn't let them delve into whatever current affair of the week. Wish it wasn't just an annual thing, too.

It almost feels like the worse each respective show becomes, the better they come off during these pairings. Maybe it helps writers find their creative spark much more so than the typical business; it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

Don't think I'll start watching Supergirl, though. The other three shows too often make me regret the time spent on them as is.

Anything that takes away from the usual drudgery - so why do you watch a show that you think is weekly drudgery? why watch soething that you think stinks because one epsiode a year mighht possibly maybe be less horrible?
Reply

May 20, 2016
Usual drudgery = forced case of the week formula and/or repetitive long-term villain showcasing that rarely amounts to anything of note. That's not every single episode, but unfortunately still too many.

I didn't say that anything stank or was downright horrible, though. That would be too extreme. Not to mention unfair to whatever entertainment value the shows can muster when they do things right. It's just often enough disappointing or being weighed down by subpar writing compared to what it could be.

Arrow and the Flash suffered this season by spending too many episodes setting up their side characters to spin off to Legends of Tomorrow. Arrow got SLIGHTLY better after they said goodbye to Sarah and Ray, but the Flash shot itself in the foot by pulling off basically the same damn plot of season 1 with Zoom's real identity. Really wish Zoom was an evil version of Barry or Henry; Jay Garrick/Hunter Zolomon just doesn't have the menace that Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawn did in season 1 when not in costume.

my problems with arrow stem from the felicity / oliver romance drama, felictity's wheelchair arc and the incredibly stupid 'put someone in the grave by episode 18' arc. the flash is more I just get bored with the repetition (that you mentioned) of it all.

I was worried. I like supergirl the best and it's the only one I'm guaranteed to watch when available. arrow I'm half a season behind on and legends of tomorrow I never started. the flash I sometimes keep on top of and sometimes not.

it's one of three reasons I didn't like the idea of supergirl coming to cw. 1 is the crossovers. 2 is the move from LA to gloomy canada. 3 is a possible change in tone because of the prior two, lower budget potentially and that the writers of the other 3 shows are piss-poor and going to be in close proximity to supergirl.

I'm not saying supergirl is great stuff but it certainly felt more like a major network show than any of the others could. I could see the others being laughed off of television if they weren't CW shows.

watchers of marvel's agents of shield need not reply to try and rebuff my comments as it's even worse than the others being mentioned here.

1. Crossovers aren't inherently bad. I understand if you feel it will affect each respective show's arcs but let's wait and see. I think we can all be grateful Berlanti is in charge not the other guy.

2. Canada is gloomy? Come visit some time, it's pretty awesome.

3. Almost all the scriptwork is done in LA, production only happens in Canada. Sometimes they crank out great scripts, sometimes not so great. If you're worried about pedigree, Zack Stentz (guy who wrote the Kevin Smith Flash ep) also wrote the script for X-Men Days of Future Past.

3 (for real). Agreed, iZombie is great!

So I'm usually the first one to bitch when comics do crossover stories. Like you have to buy Catwoman #12, Red Robin #27, Detective Comics #934 and three others to read the entire story. If you only subscribe to one or a few of those titles, you're left with random chapters of a bigger story. BUT I watch all four shows already and i don't have to shell out any money, so who cares? Lol I only watch the Chicago shows when they cross over to SVU and I've never been confused or put out. It's fun.

I don't think we NEED so many crossovers, but it could be great if they do it right... They wrote themselves into a hole having Kara be on Earth-not1or2 so it'll be interesting how she happens to show up because the threat is most likely for the Arrowverse due to having three shows set on Earth 1. Maybe they figure how to have the Waverider jump dimensions like the TARDIS did in season 2 of new Who, or Supergirl flies so fast she opens a wormhole instead of turning back time like Superman... or Barry goes and fetches her but that'd require him to actually tell everybody he went to a 3rd dimension because he hadn't done so before lol

I don't think having the threat happen on Earth-Kara is realistic because how would the others know to go help, unless the Waverider crashes into another dimension by accident and it just HAPPENS to be when she needs their help lol
