Who hears laughter.
Office actor Steve Carell has signed on as The Mayor of Who-ville in the upcoming Fox CG-animated film Horton Hears a Who. Titular elephant Horton will be played by Jim Carrey in the adaptation of the Dr. Seuss--aka Theodore Geisel--story, slated for release in March of 2008.
Horton Hears tells the story of Horton, an elephant who hears voices coming from a speck of dust. He learns the voices belong to a miniature race of creatures called Whos.
Carell will play the voice of The Mayor of Whoville. Carell was recently nominated for an Emmy for his performance as clueless boss Michael Scott in the NBC sitcom The Office, which won for Best Comedy. Carell is currently filming Evan Almighty, the sequel to the 2004 Jim Carrey hit Bruce Almighty.
Former In Living Color funnyman Carrey will voice Horton. Carrey previously appeared as The Grinch in the film adaptation of Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Horton marks Carrey's first animated film.

steve carrel is great but enough with jim carrey already. the man should take a vacation.
A spin-off has been greenlit that will star Steve Carell and will not in any way have Jim Carrey in it.
carrey RUINED lemony snicket.
I thought they might do a screen version of "Suessical the Musical," but no such luck. I hope Carey doesn't make Horton into a crazy voice, he should be mild mannered.
