Oprah's Oz-ventures begin

When Oprah Winfrey announced on the season 25 premiere of The Oprah Winfrey Show that her audience would join her on her Ultimate Australian Adventures, she created the most anticipated trip since the Second Coming.

And with the arrival of 302 audience members in Sydney today, the wait is over. The arrival has created so much excitement it has some people jumping on the couch. Oh wait, Tom Cruise already did that.

Hailing from 38 US states (plus some from Canada and even one from Jamaica), the audience members flew in from Los Angeles aboard a Qantas Boeing 747-400 ER jumbo jet, arriving Tuesday morning. After touching down, the visitors received a warm welcome at the Intercontinental Sydney, their home for the duration of their stay in the Harbour City.

Comprising 242 women and 60 men ranging in age from 18 to 75, the audience will travel throughout Australia, with some groups visiting all Australia's states and territories. Following their adventures, audience members will reunite for two tapings of The Oprah Winfrey Show at the legendary Sydney Opera House on Tuesday, December 14. However, it is still unclear how much of the adventures of Oprah's audience members will be part of the programs that are scheduled to air in the US in syndication in January 2011 and in Australia on TEN in primetime January 2011.

But the Oprah Show representatives have hinted that the programs will capture at least some of the "stories" that unfold in the journey throughout Australia.

"We couldn't be happier to be Down Under and are excited to bring our show to Australia," said Sheri Salata, president, Harpo Studios and executive producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show. "Everyone has given us such a warm welcome and we can't wait to explore the country and showcase the incredible stories we find along the way."

Australian partners and sponsors of Oprah's Ultimate Australian Adventure seem to share the same level of enthusiasm about the event.

"We are thrilled that viewers of these shows will get to see a broad spectrum of life throughout Australia, with all eight states and territories on the itinerary. We're proud to welcome Oprah's ultimate audience members to Australia", said Andrew McEvoy, Managing Director, Tourism Australia.

We'll provide you with more details on the show as they come to hand.
