Remember last year's Academy Awards? Probably not, as the 80th edition of Hollywood's biggest night was a snoozer and delivered the worst ratings the ceremony ever recorded. This year, concerns the same thing may happen were just as ratings seem to be down for just about everything and fan favorite The Dark Knight wasn't up for big picture.
Fortunately for ABC, the show was a relative success, increasing ratings from last year and garnering generally positive reviews. Last night's 81st Academy Awards brought in 36.3 million viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter, as well as a 12.1 rating among adults. Last year's event, by comparison, drew 32 million viewers and a 10.7 rating.
Though no longer a must-see event, last night's ceremony was the most-watched "entertainment telecast" in the last two years.
ABC destroyed all competition for the evening, getting 24.3 million viewers for its red-carpet coverage as well.
What were your thoughts of this year's Oscars? Do you think the production rebounded?
