There are eight nominees battling it out in the field for the 2009 Gold Logie: Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Andrew Denton, Rebecca Gibney, Adam Hills, Simmone Jade Mackinnon, Rove McManus, Kate Ritchie and Ian Smith. Yes "Harold" got over the line, after a push by fans. But he will have a fight on his hands to compete with popular choices such as Gibney, McManus and maybe even Ritchie.
Gibney is up for the Silver as our Most Popular Actress, competing with Kate Ritchie, Kat Stewart, Simmone Jade Mackinnon and Jodi Gordon. Both Gibney and Stewart are also recognised in the peer-awarded Outstanding Actress.
Most Popular Drama is a fight between Home And Away, McLeod's Daughters, Neighbours, Packed to the Rafters and Underbelly. Rafters would have to be the front runner here, but the list overlooks City Homicide, Sea Patrol, Rush, All Saints and Satisfaction -- to name a few.
For Most Popular Reality, the top five are Australian Idol, The Biggest Loser, Dancing With The Stars, The Farmer Wants A Wife and So You Think You Can Dance. Expect the latter to take out this category after a stunning first year.
While the magazine's readers skew towards younger and broadly popular shows, the peer-voted categories recognise some of the industry's best.
For Most Outstanding Actor, the industry has selected Dustin Clare, Vince Colosimo, Gyton Grantley, Callan Mulvey and Damian Walshe-Howling -- all five have appeared in versions of Underbelly, but Clare and Mulvey are nominated for Rush.
