Painkiller Jane put down

She can heal all she wants, but "Painkiller" Jane Vasco isn't coming back to the Sci-Fi Channel.

The genre cable network has cancelled the show Painkiller Jane, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show is currently 16 episodes through its premiere season, and will run its entire 22-episode series as planned.

Painkiller Jane is based on the comic book series of the same name created by Jimmy Palmiotti. The lead character Jane Vasco, played by Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines), is a DEA agent with the superhuman ability to regenerate and heal from injury. Along with a team of secret government agents, she is tasked with tracking down other mutants with special powers.

In 2005, Sci-Fi aired a made-for-television Painkiller Jane movie also based on the comic book and starring Emmanuelle Vaugier as Jane. The television series premiered earlier this year and was not directly related to the movie.

Painkiller Jane currently airs on Friday nights on Sci-Fi. For more information, check out TV.com's previous coverage.

Can't say I'm sorry it's gone. Except for a few episodes, the plot is really insipid. However, it's in no way related to the actors; they did very well.

Guess I must be an oddball -- I actually like PKJ ;-)...though I DO understand other folks thoughts/ideas/comments about the show. I feel there COULD have been a LOT more that could have been done to make it more interesting. Frankly, I like the cast members (as well as the characters they play), but don't see it actually "going" anywhere.

As for DRESDEN FILES -- remember, ALL the stations are messing up their schedules, finally realizing that there IS a "summer season" for TV, as well. It just makes it VERY, VERY confusing when trying to keep track of when one of the shows that is good is actually back on the air, what channel it might be on, what day, time, etc. Let's hope that DRESDEN does come back, as I truly enjoyed that show much better than PKJ.

I'm glad they're putting this show out of its misery. I tried to support it for Kristanna Loken's sake, but it was starting to get really painful. I mean, they've already had a clip show, for Pete's sake. You know you're in trouble if you can't get 22 full episodes with new material.

  • shsteve

I read some of the comics and there was no way it was going to transfer well to screen.

It was all bad material from the get go.

Good riddance to retread Sci-Fi gimmicks. I agree with all here that Dresden should have gotten the full 22 eps and this crap should have gotten flushed way sooner. I definitely won't be crying over this one.

I am in complete agreement with the people who mentioned Dresden Files. Why they gave PKJ a 22 episode run from the get go and Dresden only got 12 I will never understand. I mean sure they needed to take a few more pages out of the books, but it was a solid show that had a lot of potential, PKJ was just garbage from the start.

  • Zaphod69

Good riddance to really, really,REALLY bad rubbish.I'm still amazed that this garbage got past the first few episodes!Shame we didn't get 22 episodes of the great "Dresden Files" and only 12 episodes of this pap!

I'm glad to see this show go, it wasn't good in the least. This will make room for a hopefully better show. I wish they would bring Dresden Files back. I was starting to get hooked on that.

Well I'm sad to see this show out of the aired, but like some said it was undeveloped. I wish they bring back dresden files it seems that when the shows are good they took it off the air though I am sure to find a good show to relace it.tigger

Too bad, but even I lost interest and have barely been watching. *Sigh* I hope Bionic Woman can do better. I miss having a kickass chick on TV. I miss Buffy and Faith.

The show is mediocre. I watched couple of episodes just for Kristanna but even her being gorgeous cant save the show. The acting is terrible, the stories are generally ridiculous and there are a lot of cliches.

    Aug 16, 2007
  • danharr

Well it was getting better not a great show but something to pass the time on Fridays. I'm pretty sure Flash is going down if Pain Killer Jane has.

So glad, this was a dreadful show.

Terrible acting and all the stories were totaly predictable. The show was greatly underdeveloped.

  • ContinuumVortex

yeah painkiller jane was just there to be watched it was nothing special infact the main drawing point for me was christiana :)
but hey you people dont doom bionic woman and flash gordon to the same fate!, well flash gordon WAS pants, but i quite liked bionic woman that has some good potential

  • sfviewer

i think the problem with this show is that it was underdeveloped. it has a great concept and a good story, but the visualization had some problems with it, it looked a little bit too typical. it could have been a great show only if the producers made it look different from the other superhero shows.

    Aug 16, 2007
  • ZhaneEndrick

Good riddance. The show is absolutely 'painful' to watch, and I gave it a chance, hoping it would get better.

    Aug 16, 2007
  • MadManRob

Gutted i was hoping it would run for at least 3 seasons grrrrrr

And yeah they should bring back The Dresden Files too that was a mint show

I've watched the show since episode 1 and I'm not surprised about the cancellation at all. Episode 16 was the worst "clip show" I've ever seen from a series... if that was supposed to drum up interest in the show it failed miserably and probably turned existing fans off for good. Now bring back The Dresden Files!

i kinda saw this one coming

For Sci-Fi, writing is obviously paramount. This is why Battlestar survives and why quirky Eureka survives. Jane, Dresden, Flash Gordon, even Bionic Woman - all doomed because of "cheesyness" not supported by much else. Too bad, Sci-Fi had some serious momentum.

    Aug 16, 2007
  • viking84

At least we still have Eureka!!!

    Aug 15, 2007
  • alsipin

not surprise, but the show is getting better and better...

  • skylinegtr78

Sadly I agree, this show didnt really get off to a good start and while it had its moments, it just didnt really click with me. Still, it had a better plot than Flash Gordon, what a disaster of a pilot that was!

sigh another decent show put down before it had a chance to fully blossom.

    They aren't canning Doctor Who?
I wish they'd show the classic episodes and bring back MST3K!

  • acideagle

Rather watch this than "Flash Gordon" any day, and it seemed like it has steadily got better and better. No masterpiece, but I always looked forward to it. Sc-Fi Channel are in trouble aren't they? Not going to have much left once "Battlestar" winds up.

    Aug 15, 2007
  • silverlions

Not really shocked that it was canceled it is just one of those shows that you want to like but for whatever reason you end up not caring about. Very mediocre as far as sci-fi channel shows go.

    Aug 15, 2007
  • little_magelly

I'm glad it's not coming back. I'm sick of scifi trying to find the next Battlestar. The only way you can get a hit is by actually producing good stuff

    Aug 15, 2007
  • JPPT1974

Really ain't surprised it got cancelled!

    Aug 15, 2007
  • GODHOOD

No surprise here, the show never really had a direction of where it wanted to go story wise. Hopefully sci-fi channel will cancel Flash Gordon soon and start all over.

    Aug 15, 2007
  • boromirbeauty

I'm not at all surprised. I just didn't get into the show like I hoped I would.

    Aug 15, 2007
  • Kamakazi_down

It feels like the sci-fi channel is trying to make Fridays cheesy instead of good. Battlestar's the only really good show still on sci-fi.

    Aug 15, 2007
  • telvisnostic

    Can't say i'm surprised.
    It was a decent show.
I'll watch it all teh way to the end to see what happenes.
I guess it's back to The L Word for her.
