Charlie Brown and the Peanuts Gang Are Heading Back to TV

Break out your best Snoopy dance, because Peanuts is returning to TV!

Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the whole gang will appear in a brand-new series of animated shorts on the Boomerang network, Variety reports. Beginning May 9, new episodes of Peanuts will air daily at 11:30am and later become available to stream on the network's video app.

The news comes after a renewed interest in Charles Schulz's Peanuts. Last year, the 3D computer-animated Peanuts Movie—the first Peanuts film in 35 years—earned a Golden Globe nomination. Leading up to the film's release, Normaal Animation Studios in France began producing new Peanuts shorts using watercolor art and textured backgrounds.

Now, these shorts are finally coming to America. Are you excited Peanuts is back?

Can't they air The Charlie Brown and Snoopy show instead?

I didn't realize Boomerang was still a thing. I see they're airing episodes of Teen Titans Go, so it appears they've thrown out their station's only reason to exist whatsoever since that show is about a year old. New Peanuts shorts won't get me to watch, that's for sure.

Boomerang used to be good. Of late, they have been running more "modern" cartoons like Pokemon, though that show is 17 years old now. I used to like the channel when they ran old Hanna Barbera fare like The Catanooga Cats, Shazzan, Space Ghost, Jonny Quest, etc. as well as great documentary fare on cartoons and their origins. Sadly, that is missing now. I haven't watched the channel in several years. Ditto with Cartoon Network since we lost Young Justice and Justice League Unlimited. Their newer shows like Steven Universe do not appeal to me at all...

I can't help but wonder what 'boomarang' means. Am I to deduce based on this specific springboard offering that they will be a network that throws nostalgic content that theoretically returns back to the network as new episodes of old favorites?

If so fine, I guess. The market exists, so I won't bad mouth it...hell, if I did, I'd be a hypocrite, 'cause I'm kinda-sorta diggin' on the upcoming Voltron thing in the Netflix pipe.

Don't get me wrong, I digs me the taste of peanuts...but only on the occasional holiday tbh...It ain't enough to turn my eyes to a whole new network

poke me in a year or two & lets see then what they got goin' on.

actually, If they ever had an episode where Woodstock gave Joe Cool some bad brown acid, I'd get on board with that episode & ride out the series to the very end simply for making the attempt & havingthe balls to roll with the reference.

just sayin'

Also, if Peppermint Patty & Marci were to go through puberty & end up in a lesbian relationship by the end of season one, I'd be there just to see the spectacle

Still, I'm just sayin'...If nostalgia's the point, use that point to poke people into the present

What could possibly go wrong, Amirite?

Peppermint Patty may be a little bit butch, but she's not a lesbian. Marcie is a little bit harder to read... she might be playing catch with both teams.

I know Patty has a thing for Chuck, but what if...& I'm just sayin, what if she's just confused with her sexuality & only digs on Chuck because that's what she thinks society expects of her?

...Even you have to admit that aspect has never been properly established story-wise to this day.

Pfffft!! :P

BTW, what if Lucy was dealing drugs form her psychiatric booth for 5 cents a pop for all these years?

YOU CAN"T SAY FOR CERTAIN!!!

I suppose Rerun was the drug mule, riding around on the back of mom's bike?

Patty was linked to other dudes, not just Chuck. If she's confused about her orientation, she's REALLY confused.

Boomerang is the spinoff from Cartoon Network. CN had to decide if they wanted to be a channel about new cartoons, or a channel about old cartoons. They decided "new" and relegated all the old cartoons to Boomerang. A lot of cable systems declined to carry it, back when I still had cable; now I don't have cable.

If I recall, the last feature-length Peanuts cartoon was "Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown", which was largely forgettable, but did lead to the creation of the Peanuts Memorial Day special "What Have We Learned, Charlie Brown?", which is excellent but not in the same vein as other Charlie Brown animated specials. Among other things, adults have actual voices.
