Pee Wee, Garofalo headed to TV

ABC's Pushing Daisies is one of the fall season's most buzzed about programs, lauded by critics for being simultaneously odd, morbid, whimsical, colorful, and charming.

The show, from producer Bryan Fuller (Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me), follows a pie maker who has the ability to bring the dead back to life. The problem is, if he touches them again, they're dead for good. Things get complicated when he resurrects his childhood sweetheart, and the two engage in a romance of kissing through plastic wrap, holding hands (their own), and hugging in protective body suits.

A show as offbeat and entertaining as Daisies needs to be careful about its casting, and so far, it's chosen wisely. The show will feature a guest star with plenty of experience in the world of odd entertainment--Paul Reubens, better known as Pee Wee Herman.

Reubens has reportedly signed on to the new show to play Alfredo Aldarisio, a wandering peddler of natural antidepressants (read: pill-pushing traveling salesman), according to TVGuide.com's Michael Ausiello. The role is described as "potentially recurring." Reps from ABC confirmed the report, and told TV.com that Reubens is signed on for one episode for the time being.

In another more unexpected turn, Fox has announced that alterna-comedian Janeane Garofalo has joined the cast of 24. Garofalo will portray Janis Gold, "an FBI systems analyst assigned to the team investigating the crisis befalling Jack Bauer." Season seven of 24 is due to begin next January.

Garofalo successfully made the leap from stand-up comic to actress, having appeared in several shows and films, such as Mystery Men, The West Wing, and Mr. Show.

I hope PW succeeds in his new show.

24 with Garofalo, in my opinion, not a good fit.

I think it's cool that 24 will have a lady president. I just hope that this president, whoever she is, doesn't have her VP or others in her cabinet trying to bring down her presidency. That plot device is getting so old it hurts

I would rather skewer myself in the eye than watch Janeane Garofalo.

24 has lost it's touch, maybe a new face will bring back some flavor.

Who'd have though Mary Lynn Rajskub would be a good fit for "24" but she was! Garofalo has more acting experience, she'll be great. Plus they already worked together on "The Larry Sanders Show", "Mr. Show with Bob and Dave", and "Freakshow".

Garofalo in 24? I'm sorry, don't want to be mean, but thats bad casting. Maybe she'll prove me wrong.......though I doubt it.

Good for both of em! I love "24" and Garofalo (she's my kind of funny Goth chick). As a liberal I usually agree with her politics as well (we don't get Air America in Philly,so I never got to hear her show). Peewee is cool too.
