Portlandia Is Suffering from Battlestar Galactica Addiction (VIDEO)

We've all been there: You're parked on the couch, looking for something to watch, when all of a sudden you remember a show everyone's been talking about and decide to give it a shot. Two days and three Chinese food deliveries later, you realize that even though you've been more than entertained over the last 48 hours, your eyes can no longer focus on objects and your legs have atrophied.

You have become addicted to a new show.

Maybe in your case it was Lost. Maybe it was Friday Night Lights. Perhaps it was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. For Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein of IFC's sketch show Portlandia, it's one of the most dangerously addictive shows of all time: Battlestar Galactica.

Funny, they seemed to be hunting down show creator Ronald D. Moore for MORE Battlestar Galactica instead of asking him to change the finale. Zing! (Confession: I never finished the series under guidance from friends who did and were very disappointed. I stopped with Season 3. And I'm happy I did.)

Portlandia returns for Season 2 on January 6 at 10pm on IFC.

Had it the same way with 24 - watched the first season hardly without sleeping.

Jaw dropping moments all round.

I was the same way, took me years to discover BSG. One of the best television experiences I've had..I want it back! Why oh why only 4 seasons..

Tim, you really should have finished! While the beginning of season 4 was a bit uneven, they really brought it home in the second half of the season. And the finale was satisfying... about 300x more satisfying than the finale of LOST.

My old cable TV provider had a wonderful archive which, over many years, provided me with the opportunity to retroactively catch up with so many wonderful shows - Life on Mars, Dr. Who, The West Wing, Supernatural, just a few of them. Sadly, Richard Branson's Virgin took over the service some time back and ran the archive into the ground. :( I miss my retroactive wallows, sitting up to the small hours watching eps back to back.

BSG best tv show of all time.

i whatched it over the course of a week, completely mind blowing because of how well written it is.

finale is amazing! keeping in with the series spirit it has happened before, it will happen again. no fall out, no deviation, amazing from the 1st to the last episode.

Well, most recently I've been marathoning Merlin, Misfits, and I just started Skins.

But in the past couple of years I've discovered and marathoned the Whedon shows (Buffy, Angel, and Firefly), Veronica Mars, and Fringe, among others.

When my dad was sick this summer, I finally got him to watch Firefly. We watched all the episodes and the movie in two days. Time well spent.

OMG.....If your talking about Battlestar Galactica then I am ABSOLUTLY SHOCKED. You honestly need to find yourself some new friends because they clearly have no idea what they're talking about. BSG is by far the best sci-fi television show ever to be aired on our screens and for someone who writes about TV I'm afraid this decision makes you unqualified to even have an opinion. Its like being a chef who has never tasting an egg in his whole life, or like being a childrens book critic who has never read one single harry potter book.

The good news is, you still have season 4 to look forward to. Gosh, you don't know how much I wish I was you right now - still having more BSG to look forward too. Maybe your friends were being cruel to be kind in some weird way but I doubt it. My advice to you is, DROP EVERYTHING right this instant and clear your diary to enjoy season 4... you won't regret it.

I'm still in shock that your friends would be so mean to you.

I couldn't help myself and had to post more! sorry.

Bones, Veronica Mars, Dexter, Dollhouse, Firefly, Angel, Fringe, The Mentalist, Chuck, Merlin (UK), Being Human (UK), Doc Martin (UK), Sherlock (UK), Waking the Dead (UK), Eureka, Warehouse 13, Castle, Glee, Criminal Minds, Forensic Files (I had trouble sleeping and had to stop), Law & Order (original and CI), The Glades, In Plain Sight, Childrens Hospital, True Blood, The Walking Dead and even Alias. I didn't watch much TV for many years and only discovered Pirate Bay and got cable last year so I've had a lot of catching up to do. Glee is a guilty pleasure but the rest were/are all pretty good.

Before anyone says I need to get a life, I have a disability and spend a LOT of time in bed. Wouldn't you watch this much TV? :)

Buffy a few times, Supernatural, Breaking Bad, Vampire Diaries, Doctor Who (2005), Battlestar, and pretty much any show that I started after it had already aired. Lost was the worst but I could never watch it again. I tried once and I realized that without the mystery aspect there was no compelling reason to watch. I had to take a break from Battlestar for a week or so because it was so intense. I think it ended ok except that it ended at all. SO SAD!!! I'm in the middle of a Supernatural (again)/Big Bang Theory/Homeland/The Closer run right now. Variety is the spice of life. :)

I just downloaded Smallville so maybe that won't suck. 10 seasons of possible entertainment!

Too many I admit as that is how I usually tend to watch my shows.

The list includes Buffy, Angel, Battlestar Galactica (I think you should finish it. Seasons 3 and 4 weren't as good as 1 and 2 but I thought they were still good. I also liked the ending but did feel that it could have been better), LOST, Veronica Mars, Community, Breaking Bad, Fringe, Supernatural, Jericho and Arrested Development. I'm currently in the middle of a Dexter marathon. :)

Lol I remember burning through the first 3 seasons to catch up with season 4 only to get a half season and then a 6 month break. After being able to watch 3 seasons worth in a month it was torture to have to wait a year for entirety of season 4.

It's really funny you should post this, Tim. I burned through 3 seasons of Battlestar Galactica in under 4 weeks (Tricia Helfer and Grace Park may have had something to with this). But how could you stop? The finale was a little disappointing, but I still loved the 4th season. Seriously, dude, finish it.

My other Pepsi and junk food fueled TV marathons:

Justified

The Vampire Diaries (Price's photo recaps gave me the push I needed)

Smallville (Erica Durance may have had something to do with this)

Psych

White Collar

Burn Notice

HIMYM

Breaking Bad (Personal record: First 2 seasons in 1 week)

I did the same thing, only I didn't like anything after the first season. I still watched the whole thing though. (I'm gonna replace your comment about Tricia and Grace with Jamie Bamber (when not in a fat suit) and Michael Trucco, though.)

Once you commit you have to finish.

Like a junkie: "Gilmore Girls" beginning to end, "The Vampire Diaries" to present, "Smallville" beginning to current at the time (middle of season 7) in 15 days, an all time personal ridiculous, "30 Rock" beginning to current at time, season 3.

Also marathoned (though not as ridiculously): "Fringe", "Dexter", "Bones", "Veronica Mars", and "LOST" (didn't catch up on that one until the end of season 3)

Gilmore Girls was so much better than it sounds and appears to be. Its got depth and heart and damn the humor is really well done. If you like this guys taste you should see that maybe he knows something and give it a shot

I love good dialogue more than just about anything else. "Gilmore Girls" had that in spades for 6 seasons, and at that point I figured I'd finish out the last for completion's sake.

I am one of those people who sleeps about 4-4.5 hours a night regularly. If you assume the normal person sleeps 7.5-8 hours a night that gives me a full 24 hours more a week with which to work. I use TV to relax.
