President Obama to Sit With Jay Leno

THE BIGGEST NEWS

... The President of the United States will sit down on Jay Leno's lap couch on Tuesday's night edition of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. No not Rick Perry or that guy from Massachusetts who yells at everybody. I'm talking about the real president, whatshisface. It'll be his second time chatting with Jay on his show since becoming president. I don't know why he wastes his time on talk shows, he should just guest star on NCIS as a super-agent who shoves a rocket launcher up a terrorist's butt and pulls the trigger. That's a recipe for re-election, not following "Headlines." [NBC]

... And in more important NBC news, the network has renewed reality competition show Love in the Wild for a second season. The Bachelor meets Survivor meets The Amazing Race meets The Bachelorette meets Bachelor Pad meets I Love Money show will feature wilder adventures and more twists, according to someone who was forced at gunpoint to write the press release. Maybe this season the contestants won't couple up and stay that way after Episode 2 or voluntarily kick themselves off the show out of embarrassment. [NBC]

... Brian Singer has been tapped as the director of Universal's Battlestar Galactica movie. This BSG movie will be based on the original 1978 television show instead of the good one. [Deadline Hollywood]

... HBO has purchased a project based on the book Swamplandia, about a 12-year-old girl who wrestles alligators. Really, putting a joke here would just ruin what you just read. [THR]

... The World Series of Baseball Championships started last night, and 14.17 million people tuned in to see Casey swing the maple at Uncle Charlie. That was good for a 4.2 rating, which Modern Family's 5.7 rating stomped. But it was still well ahead of the Fall Classic's worst performance from 2006's low of 12.8 million viewers. Is it wise for Fox to butcher its schedule like this so early in the season? Seriously, I'm asking. [TV By the Numbers]

... The Holidays are totally stressful and could cause some to think suicidal thoughts. If you are one of those people, don't watch NBC in December. Listen to what they have planned: A Michel Buble Christmas, WWE Tribute to the Troops, William & Kate: Inside the Royal Marriage, and Saturday Night Live: A Very Gilly Christmas. [NBC]

CASTING NEWS

... TV.com favorite Titus Welliver (that's his official title now) is joining CSI for multiple episodes. Welliver (Sons of Anarchy, Lost) will play a military contractor that's up to no good, unlike those military contractors who are doing it to make the world a better place. [TV Line]

... Mitch Pileggi, known to some from The X-Files and cooler people as grandpa crankypants in Supernatural, is joining TNT's Dallas remake. He'll play the owner of a trucking company. How exciting! [EW]

... Twin Peaks hottie Madchen Amick (Madchen... you shall be mine!) is joining Ringer... as someone super shocking, I'm guessing! Look for her in Episode 11 if you are still watching the show by then. [TV Line]

[SPOILER ALERT RE: SWAMPLANDIA, SO LOOK AWAY IF YOU HAVEN'T YET READ IT]

Ok, Swamplandia was a great book and a fun read for much of it, but it doesn't end so well for the 12 yr old girl. The quirky characters, and the humorous situations are ripe for weekly serialization, but there is the rather touchy subject of child rape to contend with if they're going to be true to the book. I can't wait to see how they're going to deal with that. Interesting choice, either way.

There have been many names attached to a movie version of the original BSG in the past...Ron Singer has been attached before to this project. Let's wait and see what happens. Oh, and before anyone devoted to the most recent version squawks, it won't be based on that version because Glen A. Larson owns theatrical rights to BSG, not Moore.

NBC is especially bad at programming in December, for some reason. Maybe the month is where they dump all the things they greenlit when drunk, because they figure everyone will be too busy shopping to notice them there.

Now I just have to hope they don't run Chuck episodes in December or I'll be forced to watch promos for ALL these things!

I read an excerpt from Swamplandia! in class last semester. It was actually not too bad (at least, compared to the rest of the stuff we read..). I may have to check it out on HBO. And I know Mitch Pileggi from Stargate: SG1/Atlantis and Grey's Anatomy...

I'm not really opposed to more Battlestar Galactica, but why make a movie? What could they hope to do that the remake didn't? And the original was good, if not great (at least the first season), it's just that like most shows of the time they may seem simple for today's audience. They did have to deal with much stricter guidelines.

not a single one of these things is any good or remotely interesting.

The fact that people actually watch Love in the Wild is more likely to cause me suicidal thoughts than the NBC shows listed (though the first 3 listed come close). I'll probably actually watch SNL: A Very Gilly Christmas because I'm in love with Kristen Wiig.

People like Love in the Wild? Seriously? SNL's A Very Gilly Christmas is going to be hilarious.

Obama goes on Leno for the same reason he does anything else, to reach out to his fellow moderate republicans.

Moderate Republicans? I didn't realize there was such a thing.

They exist. They're just called Democrats by current Republicans. Like Reagan and Eisenhower.

He goes on Leno because he knows Leno wont be able to make any jokes about him.
