Amid Facebook status updates of your friend's riveting vacation pictures from Fresno and a Tweet from your aunt about something Jesus did today, you may have noticed that Psych has been renewed for Season 7.
The news was revealed in a video by stars James Roday and Dulé Hill, as part of a puzzle that was slowly assembled on the show's Facebook fan page. How cool is that? Screw the middlemen, screw the PR folk, screw those stupid web sites like TV.com, those two guys went straight to the fans and let them know first. Why can't other shows do it like this?
Season 7 will consist of 16 episodes and air later this year. USA brass was in on the social-media reveal, saying, "It was exciting to deliver this historical news to them first and before traditional media." Even though it makes my job harder, I am very much okay with this, and I encourage other shows to do the same. I can't wait for Alison Brie to knock on my door and let me know that Community is coming back for Season 4.
Now someone please find Mr. Roday a darned belt!
The second half of Psych's sixth season begins February 29.
