Pushing Daisies creeps closer to cancellation

Gloomy times for Daisies.

The facts are these: Things aren't looking good for our beloved Pushing Daisies. The ABC drama, once cherished as a breath of fresh air in another monotonous television season is now surrounded by the putrid stink of death. Production on the show's initial 13-episode order wraps up today, and guess what...ABC still hasn't ordered more from the Pushing Daisies producers.

According to TVWeek.com, ABC spokespeople have stated that no decision has been made yet on Pushing Daisies, but all signs point to "see ya, wouldn't want to be ya!"

Ratings for Pushing Daisies have declined dramatically from its debut season, despite the fact that the quality of season two seems to be on par with season one. Many blame the writers' strike, which shortened season one and left ABC to decide between bringing the show back for a few episodes late last year, or take a break and bring it back full-force for a reintroduction this season. ABC chose the latter, and it's believed that the plan backfired.

So what's the plan if Pushing Daisies is canceled? Well, it's good news for Heroes, oddly enough. The incredibly talented creator of Pushing Daisies, Bryan Fuller, told EW.com that he would be open to returning to Heroes, where he worked on season one (not coincidentally the show's finest season by far).

"I am exclusive to Daisies through the delivery of the 13th episode of our 13-episode order, which will be mid-January," Fuller told EW.com. "If Daisies isn't picked up by then, I will definitely be going back to play with my friends at Heroes."

Fuller also said that should Pushing Daisies get wiped off the face of television, he would like to finish the story in graphic novel form. Just keep the bright colors and witty dialogue, please, and let Chuck and Ned get it on for Pete's sake!

Mourn with us, Pushing Daisies fans. And for those who can't get enough Daisies, I highly recommend checking out Fuller's Daisies-esque Wonderfalls on DVD. (Bonus: Lee Pace was in that too, and yeah, that was canceled before its time as well.)

I'm crushed and heartbroken! Its so rare to find a show like this let alone one that makes you smile and giddy every minute of the episode!

Its a sad sad time for television

If ABC really wanted it to succeed they would have promoted it more and aired reruns! They were not in the game!

Let me get this straight... "Pushing Daises", gone. "Dirty Sexy Money", gone. What a shame people are too dim-witted to watch good television and are hypnotized by crap like "American Idol" and "Biggest Loser". pfft! Ive lost all hope. whats next, "Heroes", "Supernatural"... "Bones"?

I wanted to see it, but I never knew what day it was on. You think maybe ABC shouldve done a better job of promoting it? Oh, wait, we are talking about a network! Silly me, of course, they are totally clueless as to promoting a good show!

Soo many shows on TV right now deserve to be cancelled more than Pushing Daisies. There's gotta be a way to get more people watching it so it wont die!

Seriously, this is the ONLY reason I watch ABC at all. If they drop this show I guess I can be at least happy that Bryan Fuller can help Heroes out (cuz it needs it). I don't know why it is the good shows always get canceled. Keep Daisies ABC!!!

It is the writer's strike, they it went off for six months and people started to watch other things. An now most people can't pick what to watch. or they didn't want to watch it anymore. Look at chuck and Heroes.

Please keep Pushing Daisies on TV! How can execs even think of cancelling such a brilliant show?! Stupid morons. Don't they know what the hell they're doing?!

This sucks!!!! PD is a great show, one of a kind. They need to keep it going!!!! Come on ABC, it is like the best show you have on the air right now.

Networks keep dumping good shows, like PD, and filling the air with crapy teens having sex with teens shows - Gossip Girl - or crapy remakes of shows that ended like 10 to 20 years ago - 90210 and Melrose Place remake (announced to be made ). Or they just keep adding the stupid celeb reality shows .

At this rate there won't be anything good to watch in a couple of years.

This is one of the best shows on television. It is so beautifully done and the love story is so sweet. I will be so sad if it is cancelled. Please ABC do not let this one go!

Nothing genuinely good, interesting, and fresh lasts for any extended amount of time on television. I find that so sad making.I really hope Pushing Daisies, isn't one more series--that despite being brilliantly written, acted, and imagined, that despite being a darling of the critics, that despite being a cult show--in a very long line to be canceled prematurely.I don't know what the problem is but American television for the most part seems incapable of nurturing quirky shows like PD that need a bit of extra help to find its footing. It was made worse by the writers' strike last season and what seems like ABC's erroneous decision to make the first season a short one. It's really a shame.

The expectations seems to have fallen severely in relation to quality tv in recent years. I wonder how half the other shows I used to watch would fair in this tv market. Its a travesty!

It seems that any type of original programing gets canceled these days. Too many people are content with reality TV bull crap. Even though most reality TV these days is completely FAKE and SCRIPTED!

This show is quirky, interesting, fun original and different. You feel immersed in the bright, interesting settings. The actors have brilliant chemistry and there are plenty of plot twists that make the show ever more interesting. Keep it on the air ABC!

Can't believe it :( It's really sad to see such a fine show get canceled, and such show as dancing with the stars have so many viewers. The world as we know is over ! Idiots decide whats on now. This seems never to change. Any good show in recent years was canceled. Just need to say "Firefly" and of course there was Wonderfalls some time ago ! Shame..those ratings destroyed good TV !

i really like this show. it is one of my favorites. Ned is just getting too cute with those moments.

it's just b/c this show isn't like the other shows that i watch. the ones, where during each next scene, there's some relation to something sexual.

i haven't checked but i bet that the only pushin daisies' episode that got the most viewer ratings was probably the one where chuck exposed herself to ned at the end of the episode.

it's sad because there are shows like Heroes or Prison Break or Galactica that just stopped being good and still don't get cancelled when PD is still great but lost its audience is the 1 year break due to the writers' strike. They are still on top of their game but people forgot they were watching it... last December!

just like wonderfalls, i hate when great shows get cancelled. it actually pisses me off that pushing daisies doesnt get renewed and then crap like 90210 gets watched!!! what is wrong with people???

    Nov 15, 2008
  • bernsd3

Say it isn't so. Ratings are a thing of the past & just destroying viewership by cancelling the best shows just because the "Nielsen families" (whoever they are) aren't watching.

Please do not cancel this show!!! It's fabulous - I never miss it.

I am so sick of american networks scrapping shows that are so loved by the public just because it doesn't make them squillions of dollars, and yet churn out years and years of utter drivel. Charmed, I'm looking at you!

  • LadyInque

    Cancel it? Please no

    Nov 15, 2008
  • soapieaddict23

AAAAAAAARGH!!!! How does drivel like Prison Break and Heroes get picked up every season despite the nosediving quality, yet quality shows like Pushing Daisies which are consistantly good are shafted? Unbelievable.

I've said it before but I'll say it again cancelling this this show would be a crime against humanity. Its one of the funniest and most intelligent shows I have ever seen in my life. There is a big campaign to save this show savedaisies.com.
Like others have said watch the show online on the abc website to bring the numbers up. This show cannot be allowed to die I will be deeply saddened.
