Rake for Richard Roxburgh

Richard Roxburgh has signed on to play the self-obsessed, arrogant, brilliant womaniser -- lawyer Cleaver Greene -- whose frivolous exploits will be played out in Rake, a new eight-part drama.

A sucker for a sultry temptress, Cleaver spends his days representing troublesome clients in his full-time job as a barrister, while maintaining the attentions and affections of young, beautiful women, who flock around him.

Defending all facets of the criminal community, from cannibals to rapists, danger and trouble always seems to seek Cleaver out and further complicate his life.

In addition to Roxburgh, the cast features some high-calibre Australian talent in the form of Russel Dykstra (Bondi Banquet, Spirited), Adrienne Pickering (All Saints), Danielle Cormack (Shortland Street, Legend of the Seeker), Caroline Brazier (Packed to the Rafters, 30 Seconds) and Matt Day (A Country Practice, Tangle).

The series will also boast top-notch guest stars including Rachel Griffiths (Six Feet Under, Muriel's Wedding), Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert ) and Sam Neill (Merlin, Jurassic Park).

Check out the teaser below and let us know what you think.

Rake premieres 8.30pm Thursday, November 4 on ABC1.

I really like Richard Roxburgh's work but I HOPE the series focuses a little bit on the legal side and not just the complicated entangelments of his personal life. Some great guest stars so I'll definitely have a look.
