Ratings: Betty bigger, Smallville steps up

Ugly Betty enjoyed a post-Golden Globe winning ratings boost, taking a 4.5 rating/12 share in adults 18 to 49 at 8 p.m., and 14.1 million viewers overall, according to Nielsen. The numbers were good enough to fend off NBC's comedy block of My Name Is Earl and The Office.

Smallville boosted to a season-high 2.3 rating/6 share in 18- to 49-year-olds, with 5.2 million viewers. The episode featured fellow DC Comics heroes Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Cyborg.

At 8 p.m., ABC scored its 4.5 for Betty, with NBC earning a combined 4.4 average for My Name Is Earl and The Office. CBS took a 3.4 for a CSI repeat, while CW nabbed a 2.3 for its man-filled Smallville. Fox scored a combined 2.0 for 'Til Death and The War at Home.

At 9 p.m., ABC rose to an 8.7 for Grey's Anatomy, the top-rated show of the night. CBS scored a 6.9 for CSI and NBC earned a combined 2.7 for Scrubs and 30 Rock. Fox scored a 1.8 for The O.C., and CW took a 1.5 for Supernatural.

At 10 p.m., CBS earned a 4.4 rating for Shark. ABC took a 3.7 for Men in Trees, and NBC scored a 2.5 with an ER repeat.

Overall, ABC earned a 5.6 rating/14 share in 18- to 49-year-olds, with 15.6 million total average viewers; CBS, 4.9/12, 16.2 million; NBC, 3.2/8, 7.2 million; CW, 1.9/5, 4.3 million; Fox, 1.8/5, 4.3 million.

The Justice Leage episode only left me wanting more. Smallville is by far the best show on TV. I only hope they go more in the direction of JL with Green Arrow leading the pack. What a hottie!

Smallville used to be one of my favorite shows. It's got a little campy though. Just keep pushing the story forward with the Justice League thing and explore more scenarios. It's boring now. I only saw three episodes this season but I'm sure most of the season was and will go on like this: Clark doesn't trust Lex, Clark must trust Lex because he needs his help, Chloe make sarcastic comments about her love for Clark, Lana and Clark love each other, Lana and Clark break up, Clark wears plaid shirts,Clark wears solid blue t-shirts, Clark gets infected with red kryptonite, Lex loves Lana, Lex is really using Lana, Lionel is a good guy, Lionel is really a bad guy, Lois dates a superhero/friend of Clark (ie:Aquaman and Green Arrow),Clark doesn't tell Lana his secret when he has the chance...see...told you.

I watch either NBC or CW on Thursdays. No serial on Tv can compare to Prison Break, Smallville, Supernatural, Lost, or Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Will Clark ever break into cloe's pants? those 2 have been suited for each other ever since the show aired. The Lana in this smallville is nowhere near the lana in the movies. MILF! MILF! MILF! CLARKY. B-|

Smallville is the best to watch out of them! Heroes for Monday nights then too. Fox just sucks now aside from Bones and House.....I never watch anything on ABC or CBS. Long live The CW and NBC!

Hmmmmm....maybe NBC will funally get a clue and realize that the Thursday audience does not think their comedy line up is as funny as they seem to think it is??? I am channel surfing all night long until 10 pm. Gotta get my weekly ER fix then. it's a 13 year old 'habit'!

Oh my word! I would think that Smallville would beat out Ugly Betty considering guys love to watch superhero related programs. I as a female love Smallville, though I shall confess I mainly watch it for Tom Welling and listening to that voice of his! It even sounds good when he does that angry yelling. If I must get yelled at, let it be by him! lol!

I do loooove that Justice ep! Especially when after the plant exploded and how all five men walked out in unison with Clark dead center!

Smallville all the way! How can you possibly say that Ugly Betty is better and actually mean it?! Smallville should have it's own freggin' channel it's so good. I even enjoy the re-runs!

The "Justice" episode was up there with Smallville's top episodes. It was excellent. It was also nice to see as of late, to see Clark's eye's sparkling toward Lois rather than Lana. In the previous episode I definitley enjoyed seeing Clark kiss Lois, I know Clark did too.

Smallville is turning out to be very very fictitious.

Did the people with super powers give it away?

to be completely fair, ugly betty had 13.5 million viewers, while my name is earl and the office COMBINED TOGETHER had 21 million viewers...it isn't even fair when one show is 60mins and the others are 30mins...

I watched Grey's Anatomy, CSI (since GA is on 1 hour earlier in Canada) and Shark, all shows that I love.

Bruce Wayne and Oliver Queen are similar, but very distinct in personality. Bruce Wayne doesn't go injecting experimental serums into his body, doesn't make innuendoes, and doesn't preach as readily on the moral obligations of superpowers. Plus, Batman's been done to death, and Green Arrow's more fun to watch. Not to mention the fact that, in the early part of his career, Batman works alone.

The JLA on Smallville was pretty sweet and it was the best episode of the season (that doesn't say much). I just don't understand why they gave Oliver Queen so much screen time instead of a Bruce Wayne character. They make the two identical in this series.

HA Fox did the worst, and was beaten by the worst Network on TV [CW, I only watch it for Syndication of Comedy shows and Everybody Hates Chris], but how in the hell is Fugly Betty beating Earl and Office?
