Reality TV producer, Sony sign three-year deal

Reality TV producer Michael Davies, the man behind ABC's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Wife Swap, has signed a three-year deal with Sony Pictures Television, home of top-rated syndicated quiz shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!

Sources said the partners already are working on several original projects for cable channel GSN (formerly Game Show Network), which Sony owns with Liberty Media, and a pickup deal is imminent. GSN runs repeats of Millionaire and Comedy Central's Win Ben Stein's Money, which Davies developed as an executive at Disney's TV production arm Buena Vista Productions.

Under the Sony deal, Davies said he was looking to expand his core reality business into comedy, documentary, and sports.

In addition to Millionaire and Wife Swap, Davies' producing credits include the Sundance Channel's documentary series Iconoclasts and the soccer documentary Once in a Lifetime.

Among projects being developed by Davies' Embassy Row production company are a CBS special starring magician Keith Barry, and a game show for Comedy Central with Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings.
