The Beast will no longer be A&E;'s burden. The action drama has been cancelled by the cable network after one season, reports Variety. A&E; has yet to make the move official, but Variety cites well-placed sources as saying it's a done deal.
Patrick Swayze starred in the show as Charles Barker, an FBI agent who does things a little differently and concentrated on in-deep undercover work. Barker's non-traditional methods didn't sit well with his rookie partner, and led to the investigation of Barker by other FBI agents.
The Beast made headlines for the wrong reasons when Swayze announced he was battling cancer. Rumors swirled about Swayze's diminishing health and questions arose about whether or not he could finish the series.
Swayze's health issues had nothing to do with the network's decision, however, as other actors were being eyed to take over the lead if Swayze couldn't continue.
