Fans of FX's Rescue Me have nothing to worry about for the next few years--the flame for the show still burns at the network. In an avalanche of Rescue Me news, FX announced the updated premiere date for season five and an early 18-episode pickup for a sixth season.
Season five of Rescue Me will get going April 7 at 10 p.m. This run is scheduled for 22 episodes, with the season finale dated for September 8.
Apparently FX liked what it saw in season five enough to already want another cycle of the firefighter drama. Barring any changes, season six will consist of 18 episodes and air sometime in 2010.
Rescue Me star Denis Leary is promoting the new run of his show and doing something good for everyday heroes by launching "The Rescue Me Comedy Tour." The 11-city tour will feature Leary and his Rescue Me co-stars Adam Ferrara and Lenny Clarke serving up the yuks with all proceeds going to The Leary Firefighters Foundation. All is ephemeral, but not fast enough for how this one-trick pony screen writing, soap opera has evolved. What started out as an original premise has becomea booze drowning, drug addled and completely misogynistic, porno offering.Like Leary's comedy this show is aggressive and hostile and not in a good Lenny Bruce way. An insult to all authentic and dedicated emergency workers. Don't they read, listen or watch the news? 2001 is GONE! The whole world is in a different place. In 2009 we need _R_E_A_L_ comedy and caring about characters. Not the Schandenfreude and gross sexual content promoted as entertainment.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
When that things happend (Example: season five pick up along with season six) it means a TV Show is still kicking asses and its awsome!!! Rescue Me rocks!!

I like this show. It's kinda really different from others, especially those who have been shot in NYC.

That's great! Rescue Me had a long long long long break thanks in large part to the writers strike so it's nice to see FX still loves it as much as ever, still it's to bad it got the short end of the straw when it came to the strike. Fingers crossed an actors strike doesn't strike next.
