RIP: Seinfeld's Ian Abercrombie Dies at 77

Ian Abercrombie has passed away at age 77, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Perhaps best known for playing Seinfeld's Mr. Pitt—Elaine's fussy, socks-obsessed, Woody Woodpecker balloon-loving boss—the British character actor's TV credits span nearly fifty years and include roles on such shows as Birds of Prey, Dynasty, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Wizards of Waverly Place, and many more.

Rest in peace, Mr. Abercrombie. I'll be spending the rest of the afternoon pulling up my socks, eating candy bars with a knife and fork, and watching the following clips in your honor.

Aw man, RIP Mr. Abercromnie. Loved him on Seinfeld. And I just saw him on the Wizards of Waverly Place finale a few weeks ago. He was the wizard headmaster, right?

- It's amazing how even a minor character on the best comedy show of all time made such a significant impact on the viewers. Mr. Pitt's appearance on Seinfeld was brief yet memorable. Everyone in my inner circle knows who Mr. Pitt is!!

- Kudos to TV.com for recognizing the man's brilliance.

RIP Ian Abercrombie.

Wow, I heard him acting just yesterday on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where he's been playing Chancellor Palpatine / Darth Sidious / The Emperor for the last 4 seasons, and thinking about how good his voice acting in a part that was previously brought to life and made famous on the big screen. Abercrombie was really nuanced in his sly evilness, very important for the part. When they first cast Mr Pitt from Seinfeld to play the Emperor, I didn't think it'd work, but he took to it with such skill. Sad to learn of his passing.

Fantastic actor. I've seen him in other movies.

I enjoyed all of his antics, especially the fact that he was obsessed with pencils and hated pens.

I actually remember myself eating a Snickers bar with a knife and fork the day after I first watched that episode.

One of my favorite characters in my favorite show of all time.

One of my favorite "Seinfeld" moments is when Mr. Pitt is eating the Snickers bar with a fork, and it inspires others to eat various foods with utensils, making Elaine and Jerry crazy. Rest in peace, Mr. Abercrombie. Thanks for giving me something to smile about!

He was only 77? That's kind of surprising.

I've actually seen him in several things recently and was surprised at how well he looked because I had thought he would have been much older (I guess that's normal when someone looks old and then a lot of time passes, especially if you are young when you saw them looking old back then).
